I liked the way this dressy skirt was styled with a casual sweatshirt and sneakers. A fun Sporty Luxe combination that smacks of 2018. Our current fashion era celebrates irregular outfit juxtaposition so this is on point. It’s one way to take the bombshell and twee out of a pencil skirt, and make it more practical and comfortable to wear. 

Of course, you don’t need to pair the look with sneakers. Feel free to choose footwear that tickles your fancy, and use any colour palette. I’ve chosen patterns, graphic sweatshirts and plaids to add interest to the outfit in the ensemble. Use solids if that’s more your thing.

The outfit formula is dead simple. Choose a fun pencil skirt and combine it with a sweatshirt that matches it in some way. The pairing can match perfectly, or match in an abstract way. Wear the sweatshirt untucked or semi-tucked. Choose anything from sneakers and flats to booties, pumps and tall boots as shoes. Pop a pair of leggings under the skirt, or wear hosiery for warmth. Finish off the look with a coat or jacket, and a bag that works with the palette of the outfit. Add jewellery, eyewear, scarf and watch as desired.
