It’s time for the annual wardrobe basics reminder. Wardrobe basics are items like panties, bras, camisoles, thermals, socks, sleepwear, shapewear, loungewear, hosiery, and workout wear. They are distinct from the items I call wardrobe essentials

It can be a chore to purchase wardrobe basics because they’re tedious to try on, hard to fit, hard to find, relatively pricey, and quite boring. Most are hidden from public view. It’s much more fun to spend time, energy and money on wardrobe items that you and others can see. I feel the same way! Yet, most wardrobe basics are daily workhorses, and we cannot get dressed without them. That’s why they deserve your attention, and a portion of your budget, at least once a year.

Personally, I’m happy to spend time, energy and money on basics like panties, bras, camisoles, sleepwear and loungewear. Getting the fit, look, and comfort level exactly right on these items improves my quality of life and mood. Wearing the right undies positively affects how I feel in my outfit. Having the right sleepwear improves my sleep. And it’s therapeutic to have the right set of cute comfies for unwinding and relaxing at home at the end of the day.

I’m reluctant to spend time, energy and money on socks, hosiery, and workout wear. I will buy the cheapest knee-highs, pantyhose, and socks that look reasonable and do the trick. I do not enjoy buying workout wear, and sometimes put it off until things are passed their expiry date.

Thankfully, my yoga wear is in good shape, so I don’t need to think about that for a while! I recently refreshed my sleepwear and loungewear capsules from Marks & Spencer for a steal, and I’m thrilled with the items. The rest of my basics are on easy autopilot because I simply replenish with the same items I’ve been wearing for years. I’m due to buy a couple of bras and panties soon, and know exactly what to get. Sorted.

Over to you. Are you refreshing wardrobe basics this year? When did you last edit and review your wardrobe basics capsules?
