We’re checking back in with Amy Ann Arnold from Straight A Style, who we first featured on YLF in October 2015. Amy Ann is now a stay-at-home Mum, and continues to have tons of fun with her outfits. Her style is casually polished and trendy with fun nods back to ’80s and ’90s style. She is enjoying sporting soft colours and pastels, is loving paper-bag waist shorts and likes to dress up and down her collection of fab dresses.
“The main way my style has evolved is just getting more comfortable with myself. I have also transitioned out of a formal work place and now stay home with my daughter and blog. Thanks to this wonderful change, my wardrobe is by nature more casual. I still love to get dressed up, but I have less occasion to do so on a daily basis. I love to incorporate trends in ways that are practical for me.”
A fresh colour combination for early Fall. Amy Ann is sporting a striped sweater in an interesting colour combo with pale lavender trousers. Faux tucking the cropped sweater showcases the large buckle on the self belt, and lengthens the leg line. The sweater has small shoulder pads — a nod back to the ‘80s — that give her shoulders extra definition. Pairing the dressy pastel trousers with pale gold pointy toe pumps is unexpected and adds shiny polish. A crisp white bag with oversized tassels and tortoise-rimmed sunnies finish off the look.
Amy Ann is very into paper-bag waist shorts at the moment, and they love her right back. Here she is wearing a high-waisted denim pair with rolled cuffs that make our 5’10” blogger’s legs look miles long. The light wash denim works great with the pastel stripes on her top. Tucking the V-neck blouse with pretty ruffled sleeves fully shows the paper-bag waist with self belt tied in a cute bow. Amy Ann’s ankle strap platform espadrilles with embroidered flowers play up the Summery vibe. She finishes off the outfit with an on-trend see-through bag, dainty initial necklace, bold lilac drop earrings with fringe accents, and bright lipstick.
These heeled combat boos have become one of Amy Ann’s all-time favourite shoes. Here she’s wearing them with a feminine flowy dress which makes for a fun outfit juxtaposition. The caramel asymmetrical hem dress has a dainty leaf pattern and ruffle detailing that creates lots of movement. The black leather moto jacket picks up the leaf pattern in the dress and bookends her eyecatching boots. The jacket also adds hard edge that is tamed by the girly integrity of the dress. The jacket’s silver hardware and thick white boot laces add a lightness thereby juxtaposing the hard-edged elements. Amy Ann’s soft wavy locks and always immaculate make-up also add softness.
Pink accessories and footwear amp up the Modern Retro Summer vibe of this playful look. Amy Ann is wearing a sleeveless jumpsuit with flower branch pattern. The fitted waist and straight shoulder straps add structure to the wide-legged silhouette. The breezy pink slides with knotted straps add extra colour and have a fun seaside feel to them. Amy Ann bookends the flat sandals with a ‘60s-style turban in the same shade of pink. Then further plays up the pink theme with a pair of big fringe drop earrings and bright pink lippie. A rose gold watch and trusted transparent bag are the finishing touches.
Amy Ann rocks this gorgeous maxi dress with romantic floral print. The fitted waist, deep V-neck and 3/4-length sleeves on this fit-and-flare dress create structure. Suede ankle-strap sandals with block heel add height and subtle texture. Their seafoam colour echoes the blue in the dress perfectly. Our blogger completes this elegant dressy look with a pair of striking geometric earrings in a unique pentagon shape, and her go-to bright lipstick.
With its soft colour palette and transitional pieces, this polished casual look works equally well for Fall and Spring. Amy Ann is wearing skinny jeans with a twist front knotted blouse that creates a flattering peplum effect. The feminine ditsy floral print juxaposes nicely with the other pieces in the outfit. Popping over a suede moto jacket in a cool-toned brown creates soft edge and adds textural interest. So do the grey pointy-toe suede booties that throw another soft colour into the mix. The jacket’s cropped length plays well with the hip-length top and lengthens the leg line from the waist down. Our blogger’s logo satchel brings another shade of brown to the look. Amy Ann’s signature pink lipstick works with everything she wears!
