The Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale has begun and is worth a peek if you’re looking to top off your cold weather wardrobes. Here’s a selection of Winter skirts and dresses that caught my eye. I haven’t seen all the styles in person yet, but the reviews are good. Remember that you needn’t tuck tops into skirts. This is 2017, and there are all sorts of ways to style skirts with just enough structure. Wishing you a lovely Boxing Day.
- Leith Ruffle Plaid Midi Skirt: Affordable and different. Looks good with a semi-tucked top or cropped top if you don't like to tuck tops into bottoms. Fab midi length. An easy waist alteration if you're curvy.
- A.L.C. Thea Plaid Wool Pencil Skirt: Fab skirt for Team Tall. Best on straighter figures.
- Halogen Ruffle Plaid Skirt: A dramatic ruffled skirt that looks best on a long torso. Quite forgiving on the midsection. Fab length. It's a LOT of skirt so consider yourself warned.
- Tracy Reese Asymmetric Plaid Midi Skirt: This skirt drapes beautifully, and works best on a curvy figure or rectangle. Not good on apple and inverted triangle body types. You have to be okay with the raw edges that add an edge to the skirt.
- Trouvé Velvet Midi Skirt: A comfy skirt that works on a range of body types. Works on petites too.
- J.Crew J.Crew Lace Trumpet Skirt: A lace skirt in cobalt blue is rare. Fab with black and white. Works as well on straighter figures as it does on curvier hips and thighs. Dress it up or down. Nice with a black support act.
- Veronica Beard Cella Metallic Floral Print Midi Skirt: Super cute flouncy skirt that works on a range of body types. Make it pretty, or toughen it up with a black or denim support act.
- Vince Camuto Ruched Stretch Knit Midi Skirt: A repeat style that works on most people. Extremely comfortable and drapes like a dream. Works on petites and talls. Substantial fabric and streamlining. I wish it came in a greater assortment of sizes.

- St. John Collection Raja Snakeskin Knit Pencil Skirt: If you like to wear pencil skirts, this is worth a try. Gorgeous fabric, and works on a range of body types. Fab with a black support act.
- Topshop Snap Midi Skirt: A moderately made skirt with an interesting front cut. The vent is surprisingly covered despite its height.
- Eileen Fisher Bateau Neck Knit Shift Dress: A versatile dress that works best on apple and inverted triangle shapes. It can work on a curvier figure if you're prepared to surrender the waist. Dress it up or down. Substantial fabric that drapes with weight. Runs big.
- Treasure&Bond Side Ruched Knit Sheath Dress: A body-con dress for those who like to showcase their curves. Works well as a column of colour under a vest or gilet.
- BELSTAFF Luella Print Silk Tie Neck Dress: The vertical integrity of this dress is sublime, and in an elegant length. Lightweight and pretty.
- TART MATERNITY Presley Body-Con Maternity Dress: Fab maternity dress. Read the rave reviews.
- Nic + Zoe NIC + ZOE Majestic Tweed Skirt: An architectural skirt in a woolly weight. The diagonal lines on the hem are dramatic and create an interesting effect. Runs big so size down at least one size.
- Eliza J Ruffle Side Maxi Skirt: An amazing formal skirt that's as classic as it is alluring and flattering. Read the rave reviews.
- Ted Baker London Laylie Chelsea Print Pencil Skirt: A skirt that works both on curvier and straighter body types. It's quite short and tight, but the fabric is thick which helps create coverage.
- Adidas Bold Ages Hooded Dress: Sporty Frock Fabness. Works on a range of body types. Too long for petites.
- Adidas Trefoil French Terry Crewneck Dress: A sweatshirt dress is super cute and comfy worn with sneakers, or over a pair of leggings or skinnies. Works on a range of body types.
- ECI Scuba Sheath Dress: Party or work dress for Team Tall, Regular Height, and Cool Colours. Glides over the body in a flattering way. Substantial fabric.
- Vince Camuto Embellished Neck Chiffon Shift Dress: One of our forum members bought this dress and rocks the look. Modern Retro, forgiving and sufficiently streamlined.
