SoCal-based Allison Teng (33) is a Real Estate Development Manager who documents her outfits on Instagram, and on her blog, Curvy Girl Chic. Allison is a Modern Classic dresser who loves floral patterns and beautiful flowy dresses. She also adores jumpsuits, adds polish with her impeccable make-up, and her long wavy locks amp up the romantic vibe of her style, no matter what she wears.
“I think my style has remained relatively consistent over the years. I’ve always leaned toward bright, summery colors, prints, and flowy designs — I tend to think of it as a very SoCal style! If anything, over the past few years, I’ve stopped trying to keep up with every single seasonal trend, and instead, just incorporate the styles that I love into my existing wardrobe!”
Allison is the Queen of pretty flowing dresses, and this little number caught my eye because it combines a delicious Spring-like peach background with a somewhat darker, more moody Fall leaf pattern. Striking! The above-the-knee dress with flattering V-neckline is fitted on the shoulder, which creates structure. The A-line silhouette and fun tiers are breezy for warm weather and provide lots of swoosh. The puff sleeves add visual interest, as does our blogger’s small cylindrical red shoulder bag. Allison has paired the dress with nude-for-her heeled ankle-strap sandals that lengthen the leg line. Dainty jewellery and bright coral lipstick provide polish, while Allison’s long wavy locks add to the carefree romantic vibe of the outfit.
The combination of the navy dress with the chocolate brown boots makes this outfit for me. Chic and modern. The horizontal rows of wildflowers create a symmetrical pattern that draws the eye from side to side, while the floaty handkerchief hem draws the eye up and down, and adds movement to this polished look. The asymmetrical hemline also showcases our blogger’s gorgeous knee-length boots. The pointy toe lengthens the leg line, and the rich colour bookends Allison’s dark hair. As a topper, she picked a cosy faux fur teddy coat in a lighter shade of brown that works beautifully with the rest of the colour palette. The relaxed fit, fun hood, and soft casual material create a great juxtaposition with the dressier pieces in the outfit. Allison finishes things off with a small crossbody bag that complements the colour of the jacket.
Allison is a jumpsuit convert, and it’s not hard to see why. Here she is wearing a cropped one in on-trend navy with romantic yellow floral pattern. The sleeveless jumpsuit has a wrap-style effect with fitted V-neck bodice that moulds to our blogger’s curves. From the waist down it waves out in a wide-legged silhouette, which creates breezy movement. The cropped length shows off our blogger’s dainty ankle-strap sandals. The light blue is unexpected and fun, while the bow detail adds flirty pizzazz. An off-white maxi cardigan provides warmth when it’s a bit too chilly to go sleeveless. Her straw bag creates Summer-y textural interest. Red lipstick and playful circular earrings in orange finish off the look.
This fab Modern Classic look provides plenty of visual interest. Allison has tucked a black crewneck sweater into a knee-length burgundy leather skirt. The leather combined with the shimmery silver embellishments on her sweater add texture and cheerful bling. Tucking the sweater lengthens the leg line from the waist down, and showcases the charming tied-in-a-bow self-belt on the skirt. The criss-cross ankle straps on her black sandals are another clever way to create extra visual interest. The straight lines of our blogger’s classic black tote add a dressy tailored touch. A gold watch and bright red lipstick complete this polished casual sophisticated outfit.
When Allison gets tired of her Winter clothes early in the year, she is all about slowly adding in a few Spring pieces here and there. This works well when you live in SoCal. Here she is sporting a simple white tank top and skinny jeans tucked into knee-high pointy-toe suede boots. The rich cognac of the footwear matches her leather satchel with edgy gold hardware that creates a boho-lite effect. The topper is a cream jacket with ingenious design details. From afar it looks like the jacket has a white floral pattern, but it’s actually tiny clusters of eyelets. The fitted waist creates structure and makes it look like a peplum style. Finally, the shirt collar and epaulettes give the topper a trenchcoat-esque vibe. A chunky gold chain-link necklace and bracelet echo the hardware on our blogger’s bag. Orange-red lippy is the colourful finishing touch.
This gorgeous watercolour print dress is trademark Allison. It’s an A-line shirtdress that buttons all the way through with a deep V-neckline that creates a wrap-style effect. The wide self-belt accentuates our blogger’s waist and creates structure. The diagonal line of the flirty fluttery sleeves is flattering, and has a more interesting and structured visual effect than a regular cap sleeve. Allison lets her gorgeous dress do all the talking, and accessorizes with nude block-heeled sandals, a dainty necklace and a neutral circular straw bag. She then adds strong pops of colour with red nail polish and raspberry red lippy. The pearl barette matches the polished romantic vibe perfectly.
