It’s been snowy and frozen in Seattle recently and I’m thankful for my thermal tees and long johns. They’re from Uniqlo’s Heattech range, and quite well priced. I’ve been wearing these thermals for years and replenished them last season. Hubby Greg wears the men’s version and has the same positive impression that I do.

I love these thermals because they’re not only highly effective at keeping me toasty warm, but they’re extremely lightweight, soft, comfortable, and fit like a dream. They aren’t bulky — to the point that I forget that I’m wearing them. They launder well, wear like iron, and do not lose their shape or shrink. They are easy to pack for a trip, remarkably breathable, and feel warm and silky against the skin.

I believe they run true to size, and aren’t as small as the reviews suggest. The silhouettes are brilliantly streamlined, so you can wear them under fitted clothing (their outline does not grin through to the outfit). They are long enough for Team Tall, and work equally well for petites.

The long-sleeved tees are available in an assortment of necklines and colours as the collection below illustrates. You can also get an “extra warm” version that’s a little thicker and even more insulating. The long-sleeved crew necks in black and white cover my needs up top. I wear the leggings in black or grey under jeans and trousers.

Although I haven’t shown the styles here, you can get tank tops, short-sleeved tees, and turtlenecks in the same Heattech fabrication. Sizes go up to an XXL (which tends to fit a US16). That’s the only bummer. I wish this product was available in plus sizes. If you have recommendations for exceptional plus size long underwear, please tell us about them in the comments section below.
