Stay-at-home Mum client Bridget likes to wear jeans and casual pants most of the time, which is reflected in her updated Spring and Summer wardrobe capsules. But every so often she likes to change things up, which is why she bought Banana Republic’s long knit layered skirt at the end of last year. It was too breezy and lightweight to wear in the Autumn and Winter, so Bridget had to wait till Spring to make it work.
Skirts are easily orphaned when they don’t have the right tops and footwear to work with them. So as part of Bridget’s Spring and Summer refresh, we set out to complete a small capsule for her wrap jersey skirt.
We started off at home. Bridget had the right sandals (an old pair of metallic Eco sandals), the perfect blue denim jacket, and a great boho tote. Fabulous items but no outfits. We needed tops to complete the outfits. We tried semi-tucking some tees into the skirt, but didn’t like the combination. It felt too fussy for Bridget. She is happier wearing tops out over the skirt, which meant that she needed short roomy tops to complete the capsule.
We found three short casual tops that worked with the skirt at Zara. Two patterns and a solid, and two wovens and a knit provided ample variety. The hat made its way into the capsule because it also worked well with the look. The skirt together with the tops are a fast and comfy pull-on-and-go combination. The items are easy to launder and very comfortable to wear. The EXACT items in Bridget’s wardrobe capsule are represented in the collection below, which combines new and old wardrobe items.
I’ve put similar items together in a Polyvore set so that you can see the capsule more clearly. All three tops can be worn with the same skirt, jacket, sandals, hat and bag. We added a topper, because in Seattle you’ll need one at some point during the day. Bridget’s sunnies and Apple watch complete the look.
