One of the best aspects of today’s fashion is that we can remix casual pieces with dressier items to create all sorts of fashionable juxtapositions. So both casual (and dressy) wear has become a lot more versatile and cost-effective than it was five years ago.
- Madewell Flannel Oversized Boyshirt in Bainbridge Plaid: A classic and cozy plaid shirt that's great semi-tucked into boyfriend jeans with a belt and a pair of booties. Runs small.
- American Eagle AEO Factory Plaid Button Shirt: I just bought a darling very similar to this plaid shirt from American Eagle and love it to bits. It's extremely soft and drapes like a dream. Very casual and comfortable. Might run a little big.
- L.L.Bean Scotch Plaid Shirt: I continue to be impressed with the quality from L.L Bean. Their flannel shirts are impeccably made, and for $40. They are better quality than most of the current designer plaid shirts for five times the price. Inge bought this one and looks like a million bucks. Runs large.
- Old Navy Women's Plaid Flannel Shirts: A plaid in an unusual colour combination. Dark red, rust and lots of Winter white.
- J.Crew Featherweight merino wool boyfriend turtleneck sweater: A brilliant stand-alone and layering piece for Team Turtleneck. Lightweight, non-itchy, and fashionably oversized. I will probably be getting this in ink blue and heathered bark.
- Gap Merino turtleneck sweater: These fluid turtlenecks are excellent updated wardrobe essentials. Their fitted welt makes them more structured than the boyfriend silhouette from J.Crew, and the colours are versatile. I bought one in black and toffee.
- Ann Taylor Textured Tee: A great little salt and pepper jumper to wear faux-tucked over flared jeans with a belt.
- 1.State Digital Plaid Jacket: A fitted and lightweight plaid blazer for Team Burnt Orange.
- Karen Millen Vintage wash skinny jean: Fashionable patched jeans that run small for Team Hard Edge.
- Rag & Bone Rag & Bone Boyfriend Hammersmith Jean: I haven't seen these in person, but they look very interesting. Grey boyfriend jeans are hard to find, especially sans rips and tears. They could be a great piece for Fall and Winter.
- 7 For All Mankind Raw Edge Pencil Skirt: A fancy casual denim pencil skirt with fun colour blocked piping.
- Rag & Bone/JEAN 'Lira' Long Sleeve Top: A fashion forward hard edged piece with extra long sleeves and an oversized fit. Well made.
- Seychelles Solitude: Brilliantly comfy and well-made pointy toe black Beatle booties. Versatile and on trend. Works well on high volume feet and wider ankles.
- Luxury Rebel Dahlia Boot: Bring out your inner super hero with a rich red ankle boot with a higher shaft and brogue detailing. Great paired with cropped pants.
- Gap Cargo jogger pants: You have to fit these on to feel their trendy Sporty Luxe magic. Match them with a semi-tucked pullover, slip-on sneakers, or booties. Add a blazer for structure. Super casual and fashionable.
- Ann Taylor Cashmere Turtleneck Poncho: A comfy pull-on-and-go poncho that's fab over leather jeggings, or a pencil skirt with heels. Needs an oversized topper for extra insulation.
- Club Monaco Cheyenne Sweater: A funnel neck shell top that's fun worn on its own or over a blouse or shirt.
- J.Crew Pinstripe zip sweater: This sweater looks best layered over an untucked shirt or blouse with the zippers unzipped. Boxy fabness.
- Zara Moleskin Blazer With Elbow Patches: A fitted sage green velvet blazer with elbow patches. Go Team '70s. Runs small.
- Express Color Block Moto Jacket: A colour blocked moto with a Retro vibe. It's beautifully made and looks designer with bound inside seams. It's not supposed to be tailored so don't buy it too small. I keep on thinking about this piece because of its distinctive '80s flavour and tomato red trim. It might find a way into my wardrobe.
- The Dre Skinny Boyfriend Jeans: Relaxed skinnies and streamlined boyfriend jeans are essentially the same item. These fit the bill and are winners with many clients. Curvy ladies may need to size up a size.
- Zara Asymmetrical Sweater: A semi-fitted colour blocked pullover with flattering asymmetrical split hem. Great over upscale sweatpants, jeans, or tapered trousers.
- Zara Short Padded Bomber Jacket: A quilted olive bomber with a jockey-esque vibe. Wear it unzipped and over a dress, skirt, jeans or pair of trousers.
- Loft Windowpane Sweater: Inge bought this jumper and it's absolutely terrific layered over a white or ink shirt. Check out the cute back button detailing. No need to roll up the sleeves either. Fashionable and fun. Pair with fitted bootcuts or relaxed skinny jeans.
Remember to add structure to casual wear if the look feels too oversized and untailored. Structural outfit tweaks might mean semi-tucking the front of a top, rolling the cuffs of jeans, layering a fitted blazer over a boxy top, scrunching sleeves, adding a belt, or pairing the top with fitted bottoms.
