Team Mascara or Team No Mascara

Team No Mascara for me! As of now, at least. My eyelashes are naturally straight and require lots of curling to be ready for mascara, and I don’t like doing it every day. However, I will break out the curler and mascara to add to my daily eyeliner for special occasions, because I love how it makes my eyes look.

Team mascara, like you Angie. Without it my eyes fade. I love the brand d.v.j. in black. It is like the tube technology and removes so easily. I also curl my eyelashes before application, and often put a serum too.

But I don’t wear much else. Concealer, a bit of blush, and that is that.

Team No Mascara because my eyelashes are already dark and fairly thick. On the rare occasions when I bother with it, I can see that my eyes look better with it. But on a typical day, if I feel like emphasizing my eyes and I’m short on time, I’ll always go for eyeliner before mascara, because liner makes more of a difference on me. I do love the effect of false lashes when I’m in costume or going full-on glam.

Properly applied concealer is the one item that would really make a huge difference to my daily appearance. My eyes have had permanent dark circles around them since childhood, and my skin tone isn’t as even as it once was. But because I have neither the skill to apply it quickly, nor the time to apply it carefully, I only put on concealer when I have the luxury of a lot of time to do my makeup for a special occasion or night out.

I don’t go out without mascara. I’m a brunette with dark but not thick lashes, so I think mascara helps my lashes match my hair better. I don’t wear foundation or blush, but do use eyeliner, shadow and mascara. I look tired without eye makeup.

Team No Mascara. I have hooded eyelids and mascara seems to end up on them, so I leave it off. I make up for the no mascara by using a heavier eyeliner, which seems to accent my brown eyes much better. On occasion I do like to wear mascara, just because it seems more ‘complete’ wearing it.

Team No Mascara. If I do wear makeup, it’s usually *just* mascara and maybe a little lip color, but honestly I can’t be bothered with makeup at all most days. It does make my lashes and eyes look a lot better though!

Definitely Team No Mascara! I have short, straight eyelashes and monolids which require a thick application of eyeliner before it even shows up with my eyes open. I find that eyeliner does a good job of emphasizing my eyes without the hassle of curler plus mascara. I would love to wear false lashes for special occasions, but they just aren’t compatible with my face and eye structure. Twice now I’ve had a makeup artist spend 20 minutes painstakingly working on my eyes with false lashes, only to rip them all off at the end because they couldn’t get them right.

Mascara is the one makeup item I don’t do without if I can help it! Oh, and tinted moisturizer. But I could go without lipstick (and have!) for years. Mascara has become a daily item since my early 30’s.

I have a difficult relationship with mascara. I like how it looks but I very much dislike how it feels and I don’t like taking it off at the end of the day. I also always make a big smdge on my eye while applying it. I finally realized that I was having so much difficulty applying it because my eyelashes were becoming so thin. The last time I went to the eye doctor he said, “Oh I see you have lost some eyelashes. I was so surprised that he could tell that sine it was the first time he had ever seen my eyelashes. So I went right away and got some Latisse which I paint on the lashline each night and it makes them grow thicker and longer. It’s easier to put on mascara when I have enough eyelashes. Probably TMI but I don’t wear it often enough to be on team mascara although I always wear it to parties and the such.

I’m Team No Mascara for day to day. My daily routine is pretty sparse – I just brush some mineral foundation for more consistent tone. Mascara, lipgloss, eyeliners, etc only come on for special occasions!

Definitely Team Mascara. Almost every day since age 13 when my parents started allowing it. Without it, I feel as if I look like I’m about to fall asleep. I used to apply it to top and bottom lashes, but now I limit it to top. Fun post!

Team “no mascara”, but only because I’m lazy.

I’m getting my eyelashes tinted with vegetable dye, in a few weeks, so hopefully that will give my eyes the “pop” they need (for a month, at least). I find it a hassle to put on a daily dollop of mascara onto my eyelashes, especially because inevitably, at the end of the day, my eyes end up looking like Uncle Fester’s.

Team Mascara. Every day. I’m currently using it only on the upper lashes as “I was told” that it creates a younger look, so that’s what I’ve been doing. I think it just finishes off the eyes and gives them greater emphasis! Rae, have you tried Sue Devitt mascara? I’m using MAC at the moment (and always willing to try something new that doesn’t irritate…usually go with black, too), but SD has a natural one so you maybe you can dry your tears and give that a go.

Definitely mascara! I’d have to be sick in bed before I’d leave it off! My lashes are long and curly (never use a curler, they’d be doubled back on themselves!!) but very thin. Thickening them up makes all the difference. My compromise is to use ordinary for everyday, and waterproof for going out. That way taking it off everyday isn’t such a hassle. I’m loving Maybelline’s The Falsies in both formulations.

Team no mascara. My lashes are very long and no matter what formulation or brand I’ve tried, I end up with circles under the eye area from the mascara rubbing off when I blink. I save mascara for special occasions and for photos, and I use it then because I want to darken the color.

Team mascara! I used to never wear it. Then as I reached my 40’s and saw pictures of myself I knew I needed something. Eyelash curler, Mascara, foundation, eyeliner and light shadow. Oh and most important…. FILL IN THOSE EYEBROWS. Mine jumped ship around age 39 lol! And with glasses, mascara and eyebrow pencil help define your eyes.

My eye doctor recommends using baby shampoo to remove mascara and eye make-up. It is inexpensive and it works!

Team mascara. My eyelashes went from blond to clear many years ago. Without mascara I have no eyes. One coat for day, 2 for evening. I’ve tried every brand and keep going back to Covergirl. It doesn’t flake or smudge and plain/cheap bady oil to take it off.

Funny story: I went downhill skiing with a good friend who is blonde. As we were riding the lift, she said, “You know your mascara is going to run,” When I told her I wasn’t wearing mascara and never did, she tried to push me off the lift. Then she told me that all blonde women she knew wore mascara, and she just assumed everyone else did too. I was stunned to learn that she DID wear mascara!

by definition I’m on team NO MASCARA but I really love the stuff.
I do have long, dark lashes naturally so I guess I’m lucky but I do like how l look with mascara — just a little extra oomph! I love “100 percent pure” brand mascara in black tea — it’s pigmented with fruits and tea and has no problematic chemicals for us sensitive types (maybe for Rae to try if interested).
I do wear mascara, concealer and lip glaze when I do need to go out in public though.

Char, so true on the eyebrows. I first tried it last year and was amazed. I had no idea until then my eyebrows had thinned or faded or whatever they do as you age.

I’m team mascara for all the same reasons, Angie. Even if I am “finger-painting” my makeup and running out the door, leaving without mascara is like leaving without pants. I even have a travel size tube of one of my favorites in my purse in case I ever do forget, but I almost never do, and so never need it.

FWIW, I have long thick lashes too. They touch my specs lenses as well, but nothing ever seems to smudge – and I do not use waterproof mascara.

It’s interesting how many ways there are of wearing mascara.
I guess I’ve been wearing it pretty much every day since I was about
13. I never do the bottom lashes – though I’m not dead yet so who knows.
I do line the bottom lashline, though, not inside the water rim or whatever they
call it, and I never did that before this year.
I never wear more than one coat. I guess I could consider that. I never curl my eyelashes. I feel like they’re a bit too deepset for that. I like the mascara that
comes off with soap and water – less smudgy for me than plain waterproof.

Team no mascara. I never learned how to apply it properly and quickly and had very thick eyelashes when I was young. I keep buying it and then never using it. Maybe when DD goes off to college so that there’s less competition in the bathroom. . .But it is hard enough to get a proper curl first on my lashes as they are prone to have corners with an eyelash curler. . .Wish I had the money for Latisse. . . .

No mascara. LIke Rae, I love the look of mascara and wore it daily most of my adult life. A few years ago I became sensitive to it and lashes thinned a lot. It doesn’t seem to matter what kind I use and am just as sensitive to many natural ingredients. On rare occasions I still wear it for an evening but suffer itchy red-rimmed lids the next day.

Team Mascara! 90% of the time. Waterproof Maybelline Lash Discovery or Clinique Naturally Glossy are my favorites. No smudging or flaking and they are both pretty light formulas so you can build up more on your own. I always use a lash curler and always fix with a brush so there are no clumps. A little obsessive about this lol.

Team Mascara–but Sunday is my day off. I only started wearing it regularly in the last two years though. I find even though I have long dark lashes, the ends are blonde, so it really makes a difference. It’s part of my daily armor now.

I love Mascara and have read and seen the wonders it does to eyes in real ladies as well as celebrities. But when I am doing makeup I always forget or don’t like wearing mascara since they clump and make my eyes heavier (I wear contacts) and also at the end of the day my eyes look like a raccoon if I wear some (I sweat a lot on face). So I don’t like wearing them but I like its effect on others.
So Team No Mascara here.

Team No-Mascara too. Special occasions only:
– Don’t really-really need it (to be honest, unless I use lengthening formulas, I don’t see a *lot* of difference)
– Hate the clumping and fuss of removing it
– My eyes get puffy next day (I have a partially blocked duct, so I surmise the minimal addition of even the odd fibre makes a noticeable difference in my case)
– Eyeliner makes more of a difference to ‘open’ my eyes when I look tired; smudged mascara (humidity or forgetting NOT to rub) with dark circles makes for raccoon eyes
– My lashes are pretty short and straight, so not very supportive of mascara anyway; they don’t curl very well either
Eyeliner, on the other hand, I’m rarely without.

Team mascara every day. My eyes are my best feature and it is worth enhancing them. I’m dark blonde with some grey starting and black mascara provides a very nice fresh accent. I then put on some light foundation to cover my sensitive cheeks/broken capillaries and am good to go.

No Mascara. I also find it smudges on the inside of my glasses. When I wore soft contacts, I wore it almost daily, but now I almost never wear it. Even if I’m putting the rest of my make up on for a special occasion, I’ll probably leave it off because of the smudging.

They are very sensitive though and I have struggled for years to find a mascara that doesn’t irritate my eyes. I discovered Blinc mascaras last year and can now wear mascara all day everyday yay! X

I would love to be on Team Mascara, but since I don’t wear it every day, I’m Team no mascara for the time being. Like so many have said, I love how mascara plays up my eyes, but ever since my favourite was discontinued I haven’t been able to find a new one that I love just as much (clumping and flaking drives me crazy) – the main reason why I’m not using it daily.

Team Mascara hands down!

I rarely wore it when I was younger, since I have naturally long lashes (they bump into my eyeglasses if I don’t get glasses that sit away from my face slightly), but as I’ve gotten older, I notice they’re not as thick and full as they used to be. Since my eyes are definitely the feature I prefer to emphasize, I’ll take mascara over every other kind of makeup, with the one exception of tinted moisturizer.

Team mascara. A couple of weeks ago I forgot to apply my mascara and headed off to work. I remembered and checked the mirror and promptly turned the car around. When I showed back up at home Dh was perplexed. When I told him what had happened he said “wow! Mascara must be really important?”. I told him it absolutely was. If I’d made it further before realizing I would have stopped at the drug store for a new tube.

Team mascara for me. I have a sensitivity to liquid eyeliners, so I know what it feels like to have itchy, red-rimmed eyes, but so far mascara doesn’t irritate them (knock on wood). My lashes have thinned a bit from very thick to moderate and I really appreciate what a coat of mascara does to open up and darken my eyes.

Now that it’s summer, I’m working out in the pool in the evenings, so if I’m home all day I just leave off the mascara so that I don’t have to remove it before swimming. I’ve tried waterproof mascara but I lost more lashes with the make-up removal than with regular mascara so I quit using that! I need all the lashes I can get.

Team Mascara all the way! That said, I am always on the hunt for a better one. My sparse lashes need both volume and length, so I usually go back to L’Oreal Voluminous in between trying various other brands. I do like Maybelline Full & Soft for more casual (weekend) wear, because it has a more natural look and doesn’t make your lashes stiff or clumpy. And recently I tried Maybelline’s Mega Plush, and that seems to work fairly well.

I wear mascara most days. I have long eyelashes, but they are blond. I don’t feel dressed without it. I have lots that I love, but a great summer choice that comes off easily, doesn’t ever give raccoon eyes, and makes whites of eyes brighter is Lancôme Definicils in navy.

I do have problems with all the lengthening and volumizing, there is something in those that make my eyes burn, so I wear the cheap and cheerful Maybelleine, in the pink and green, love it!!

Team mascara – at least 5 days a week. But not waterproof – I can’t stand removing waterproof mascara. My lashes are dark and not sparse, but I like more length. I don’t feel that I can’t go out without it – I just like the way it brings out my eyes.

Definitely team mascara. I have dark auburn hair but my eyelashes are fine and have blond tips; factor in faded eyebrows and my eyes disappear without help. I wear it every day even if not going out as it makes me feel better to see a human being looking back at me in the mirror!

Team Mascara all the way! Somewhere I read that for blondes, mascara makes the most difference of any makeup item. Don’t know if it’s true, but I love mascara.

Team mascara with my blond/brown & aging eyelashes. Brings out my deep-set eyes. Use a magnifying mirror at an upward tilting angle, looking downward into the mirror. Makes application easier. And use Clinique makeup remover to take off at night. Easy.

Team mascara, definitely. I have lots of very long eyelashes but though I am a brunette, my lashes are blond. So they are almost invisible without mascara.

Team no mascara ONLY because my lashes are naturally long and medium full (at the moment … we’ll see as I age what happens) and when I use mascara, they hit the lenses of my glasses. So, instead I line my upper lids with a deep brown/almost black liner from Bobbi Brown. I think it’s a good compromise.

Hmmm, looks like somehow I have defected from Team Mascara to Team No Mascara. My natural reaction was that I like mascara so I’m on the team, but given Angie’s parameters, I am off the team. Since I no longer have an office job to look “polished” for, now it’s a matter of sensitive eyes and what a pain it is to take off. I don’t rub or tug at my eyes so my mascara has to come off pretty easily with mild soap and water. I’ve found that other eye-lining methods, like using powder to make tiny wings at the corners or wiggling it down into lash roots, or even just gently curling the lash tips, will give my eyes enough definition and then simply splash away at the end of the day.

Definitely team mascara. I wear glasses and have very pale blond lashes — I feel like my eyes fade away without mascara. It’s a challenge to find mascara that is not too dark – I usually end up with dark brown or brownish black.

Definitely Team Mascara! I wear it every day. I wear it on weekends, even on casual days. My eyelashes are thick and dark anyway but adding some mascara close to the bases of my lashes adds drama to my eyes which is part of my look. I am extremely minimal with all other makeup, with colourless gloss on my lips at most.

Team mascara. Most definitely! I have gotten used to how it feels. Maybe once every two weeks I don’t wear it, if I have a day at home. I really feel naked without my pale brows and lashes enhanced.

Actually my lotions and sun screen are far more irritating to my eyes than any mascara or eye pencils.

And to mamavalveeta03 — a black brown mascara is far more natural looking on this blonde than a deep black. I love Maybelline’s XXL series with the primer, best mascara (for me) ever!

Team Mascara – ALWAYS. I have light eyelashes and it totally changes the look of my eyes and face with it on. I even have waterproof for the beach or pool. Some days (even though I love makeup) I will only wear mascara – ie if I’m going to the barn, the pool, etc.

I don’t wear mascara, so Team No Mascara. I wear glasses daily, so my eyes are not very visible. Also, I have dry eyes so I touch them CONSTANTLY. I also don’t like my eyes at all, one of my eyelids is slightly closed and anything on them only makes it more obvious.

I hope it’s not too late to cast my vote! I’m Team Mascara without a doubt. I have red hair, but my eyebrows and eyelashes are very pale blonde. If I don’t wear mascara I look wan and sickly. Perhaps it’s because I apply it every day, but I’m able to put on a coat in just a minute or two and be on my way, and even though I don’t wear waterproof mascara I rarely have trouble with it staying put.

As an aside, in case there are any other redheads out there who don’t like the look of black or brown mascara on them: check out justforredheads.com. I’ve used their mascara and brow pencil for years and am 100% pleased with the colors and quality.

Close poll! I am on Team Mascara at minimum 71.45% of the time I wear mascara daily to work, but often go without on the weekends (my hubby insists he can barely tell the difference). My lashes are dark and fairly thick, but not super long. I wear my mascara in the blackest black available so it is actually be noticeable on my dark lashes, but do not like clumping and work hard to try and get a lot of individual lash definition. I have tried (and failed) to get eyeliner to work on my eyes, and I’m not the only one who can’t make it work; for some reason it’s nearly impossible to get it into my lashline without stabbing my eyeballs so it just leaves a white line along the lashes and I’ve given up on it. So the only makeup I wear is mascara and tinted lip balm. I love my mascara!

Definitely on Team Mascara! If there is one cosmetic item I simply can’t do without, this is it!

Here in France we have a definite ‘less is more’ approach to both make-up and clothes. But, we never show ourselves to the world (even at a 6.00am dash to the boulangerie for still-warm croissants) without making an effort. For me, that means mascara (I love Noir G from Guerlain), and a soupçon of perfume. I’ll do without foundation, eyeshadow, blush, powder, at that time of the morning but NOT mascara (or perfume). Today, it took me just fifteen minutes to shower, dress, and make-up. In what? Mascara, obviously, a touch of scarlet lipstick and perfume. I pulled on white jeans, a navy and white marinière (guess you call them Breton tops), and a pair of navy ballet flats. A big pair of Jackie O sunnies worn as an Alice-band cos I was going to the hairdressers later. Now, tell me, is there REALLY any excuse for going out to face the world in sweatpants???

I am TEAM MASCARA! I love Mary Kay’s Ultimate mascara. I use a curler on my eye lashes 3 times first, then I use the mascara. I have forgotten twice this year to put on mascara before leaving for work. I got side tracked, and left it off. I felt naked and putrid looking the entire day!

Another vote for TEAM MASCARA! ALWAYS! My absolute favorite is Lancome High Definicils in black. I curl my lashes first, apply one coat of mascara and then, like christieanne, I use a Tweezerman metal eyelash comb to get any clumps out and to define each lash. If there is any mascara on my eyelid I get a Qtip, dampen it and remove the mascara. I rarely wear liner but I do love the way my eyes look with liner. I have never had any problem with this mascara flaking or running. I only apply it on my upper lashes because my lower lashes are quite long and look strange with mascara on them. So if I were stranded on a desert island I could make do with mascara, blush and lipgloss. lol

Wow, I’m amazed at the number of responses to this post!
I guess I’m on “team wannabe mascara”. I only use mascara very rarely because I just never really got the hang of applying it well. I do like to get my lashes tinted, which I guess would make me part of team mascara, but I don’t get around to it regularly enough. I sure like the look of mascara. My lashes are very sparse and bland so I like to get some enhancement!

I am so team mascara! I feel naked or not complete without it. I feel like it ups my style factor and looks polished. I have even gone so far to wear fake lases, but i dont prefer that look. If I get a groupon or something of that nature, I may actually try extensions.
