So I thought it could be fun to share an early YLF WIW next too a more current one and a great exercise in seeing how much we have grown and learnt on our style journey to date.

Would anyone like to play?

I'm embarrassed! But I will go first.

I remember feeling very nervous and self conscious taking my first WIW pic. DH took it for me

Now I take my own pictures using a timer, found a better spot in the house for photos and actually enjoy doing my WIW pics.

Here are mine. I'll start with before.

Pic 1 -- Well, I still dress like this so I'm not sure why I'm embarrassed. Probably because I thought that this was a really really good outfit and now there's nothing special about it. I would not wear a scarf like that, in that color, so close to my face any more.

Pic 2 -- Same situation as above, an issue of post worthiness. Thought this was a k-worthy outfit, lol! Now I would wear a woven shirt without a high neckline under the sweater which I still have and wear to work.

Pic 3 -- After a few weeks on YLF. Getting more stylish! I passed the tunic and sweater on, this was the best possible configuration of these separates, it went downhill after this picture.

Pic 4 - 5 -6 -- More recent WIWs. From the past 6 weeks.

Okay - here goes - reposting from the other thread
Totally embarassing.

Here (pic 2) is a very early post (though to be fair, this wasn't an outfit I was happy with at the time) I was 3 months postpartum at this point!

Here (pic 1) is a relatively recent one with some things I have adopted post YLF - like clams, white bottoms and necklaces

Denise, this is so cool. I don't think there is anything wrong with #1 & #2, but I think you have kind of tweaked and polished your style. I really like #3, I would wear that And it's really more typical of what I think of as 'your' style. #5 makes me think you should have your own blog!! That is such an great outfit.

Anne the first one is pretty but he second more current picture is just perfection. I love the silhouette, colors and that necklace!! Wow.

Anne I love the b&w! And the necklace. A killer outfit. I can't see your prior picture, but I can use my imagination.

Deborah -- I think I had some worse pictures but in December I went back and looked at all of my pictures and got rid of a few. You know, the kinds that, if used for blackmail, you would pay to prevent being seen.

1) Spring of 2009, pre YLF. I had just discovered fashion/style blogs and this is my very first documented outfit pic. As you can see a very sad state, but I was being brave and trying pattern mixing. : )

2) 7 months later and my first WIW on YLF! By then I had totally embraced ALGO, LOL!

3) 1 year later and YLF helped me put together my favorite holiday outfit!

4) Angie's sophistication and clean lines influenced me to try this skirt UNDER an orphaned a-line shirtdress.

5) Angie's first reviews of Custo Barcelona during NY Fashion Week influenced this look.

6) I never considered cobalt before YLF and now I am drawn to every cobalt item I come across!

7) Never knew about tipped jackets before YLF and scored this real leather one at the thrift store. I also had to add the thrifted tulle skirt for the "fun" part of my style adjectives. (In 2011, forum discussions led me to come up with casual, feminine, and fun to describe my style.)

8) My most recent Angie influenced (Bobeau chevron skirt) outfit. : )

I LOVE YLF! Thank you Angie and forum FABers for making the everyday act of getting dressed FUN!!

Oh, awesome thread! I'm ready to crash, but will come back first thing tomorrow to read about everyone's evolution!

I found these... pre-YLF, but they're pretty interesting to me because it is clearly before I knew *what* my style was and just had to "dress up" more after graduating. Then and now:

- jeans and cat shirt look
- short dress look
- boot look
- midi look

Wowee, no wonder I didn't feel like myself then! And though I'm clearly thinner, I was also far less confident, too.

Very interesting to see all your pictures! It's really obvious how YLF increases our style quotient.

Here are mine, I definitely see a development, although a slow one in comparison to some ladies here on YLF. It took me quite some time to get there.

#1-3 are early ones.

#4-5 are all recent ones from this year.

I'm thinner in the first three, but much more confident in the last three. And I got my new specs in the meantime of course.

Love this thread! I hope lots more fab YLF ladies join in on this one. 1st pic is cringeworthy, just starting YLF. Hopefully, the second pic is a bit better, 5 months into my fun and uplifting YLF journey. I look forward to the next 5 months of clothing joy

AJ all your outfits look good to me. Again I see how Angie's influence has brought a consistency and an element of streamlining which makes each outfit look j
"just right". #4 is just stunning.

Rae, I like your comment about "before you knew your style" while the early outfits are nice, they seem to wear you. In your current outfits, your confidence is evident and while you vary your looks, "you, style is present in each outfit.

Astrid it looks like you have fine tuned your style:). I can see you have always been a scarf girl. Your current pictures certainly show confidence and your distinct style.

Soobee #1 isn't cringeworthy, just not as streamlined as your current looks. You're obviously a quick study:)

Oh, I am loving this so much, and desperately want to participate! But my hard drive crashed and I have lost most of my early YLF photos. I could only do it by linking to old threads. Would that be okay?

What strikes me with each of these is how we come with certain elements in place (perhaps not even knowing that) - be it a colour palette (Deborah, I'm winking at you!) or a silhouette or clothing item (can we say DENIM, Denise? or BOOTS, Rae? or SCARVES, Astrid?? or skirts, AJ?) and then with Angie's help and the forum's we refine until those elements become somehow signatures of our look and more compelling.

Example: Rae - you still wear boots and you still wear skirts and dresses....but gone are all the flowery flounces. So there's still femininity to combine with the toughness but it is much more streamlined. And when you DO incorporate a floral item it comes across as much more grounded.

Fun! I love looking at all of these! I've been a member here for 3 years i think? The earliest photos i found on my computer are from 2009 but i think i deleted anything older than that. You *may* have already seen these before?

Pic 1: work look with awful hair and yes i used to be tanorexic. XD

Pic 2: and a casual look from 2009.

Pic 3: OMG. OMG. OMG. I found this one from 2010. I am DYING over here. This is so far away from where my style is now it's not even funny. Ewwwwwwwwwww!

Okay, I can't think of a better way to demonstrate my fashion/style evolution than by comparing two sets of professional photos from New York City. First shot is from 2008 with DH, second shot is from this past February with DS.

Argh! Look at those non-PPL jeans and green sneakers! (And Hubby no longer wears the blinding white sneaks in public, either! LOL)

Love seeing everyone's progressions. Some of you just needed a little tweaking, and others are utterly transformed!

I'm still a "before" and I only got up the courage to post pics in the last week or so. I have not yet figured out how to take good photos of myself, so I think each of the few pics I've posted so far is cringeworthy! Looking forward to being as stylish in my own way someday as everybody here is now.

And Brenda, wow - you really got svelte in the time you have been here. Amazing changes in your shape as well as style. (I hope it is okay to say that!)

Nicole, I am just floored at the changes. Your style is SO sophisticated (as well as being fun) now - a person would never have known it from looking at those "before" shots.

If Angie were selling something, she could use our before and afters as pretty strong evidence in favour of her services!

You know, what's fascinating about this is that none of us started out as hopelessly unstylish ladies! Colors, patterns, and fun with fashion was there in some form in the befores - Mary's green shoes, Nicole's colorful outfits, Astrids scarves - but the after outfits are so much more personal - tailored-to-you pant hems, studs that show a tough side, a sleek pixie cut for artsy edge. To me, this is perfect evidence that *great style* is about being the best YOU you can be, no matter what is *in style."

I'd agree that none of *you* started out unstylish. I wouldn't generalize that though. I didn't realize just how frumpy most of my clothes are on me until I started reading YLF and taking pictures of my outfits (haven't posted most of them because they're just awful). I don't like the stuff I used to think looked good on me, partly because I haven't adjusted to my recent weight gain, and partly because I'm now much more aware of what looks frumpy to fashionable people.

I'm in that awkward place of really wanting to dress better, knowing what looks stylish on others, but having no clear idea of how to achieve it for myself. The end result is that I hate the way I look in everything! (To be clear, I don't hate my body - just my entire wardrobe.) That said all these then-and-now pictures do give me hope that I can figure it out without bankrupting my family.

This is really interesting. I wouldn't consider any of your "then" outfits terribly unstylish, but I can certainly see a certain polish and finesse emerging!

I don't know if I can fairly compare my former outfits with my current ones. For one thing, my life has changed dramatically in the past year. I used to be a stay-at-home-mom, so my wardrobe was entirely casual and generally all home made (except shoes). Photos 1-4

Now, I'm working full time in a fairly conservative office, so need to wear corporate-ish type outfits.

Apples and oranges, right?

Things that have changed: my understanding of what types of things are flattering on me. Even on casual days, I'm less likely to wear a knit top. I wear pants that are PPL. I'm aware of and enjoying trends.

Things that have stayed the same: whimsy and strong color. My enjoyment of experimentation. I wore a lot of things that didn't look good and still do, just in the name of trying it all out.
