Challenge 4: Show us your florals, botanicals and paisley

Welcome to the fourth challenge!

Florals - small or large, monochrome or pastel or bright
Paisley - classic or modern
Botanicals - leaves, trees or anything else

We still have two challenges - Abstract/wildcard/traditional prints and Animal Print/Camouflage. If you are not sure about the pattern just pick a thread and add it - we are not being too strict!!

I was hoping to do a WIW to start this one off but today I have had a crazy day working from home and have not got around to it. So I have started with a blouse I added - I enjoy wearing this blouse - I like the dark background and the ruffles are fun. Here is a WIW featuring the blouse from a few months ago.

I enjoy florals and botanicals - as long as they are not too small. I do wear them more often in summer and love a good floral dress.

I used to wear paisley and may have a scarf somewhere.... But right now it is not highly represented in my closet.

Sal I'm hanging about waiting for tonight's episode of Game of Thrones and it's too cold to try on all my florals. But DD1's bedroom ( vacated, she has left home) still has the ditzy blue floral wallpaper we put there when she was 2, in 1993! The only floral wallpaper left in the house though one other bedroom has yellow wallpaper. All the rest are paint. I can try to photo my items in her room in another couple of days

Just took a look at my summer wardrobe, and this is what I found in this category (floral/botanical/paisley):
- 3 dresses
- 2 skirts
- 3 blouses
- 1 tunic
- 1 bomber jacket
- 1 scarf

I love your top, and your wallpaper, Sally. I can't resist the match your wallpaper challenge (even though you were kidding).
Check out this picture of my wallpaper (painted pressed metal look) and then my skirt in finds. Pretty close! I have worn the skirt but no photos unfortunately. Maybe we should have a separate match your home decor challenge. I also have chevron coffee cups I could do a matchy matchy look with, ha ha!

Great challenge to match the wallpaper Sal! I don't have any....not many walls in my house either..... your decorating clearly reflects your style of dress! Mine does not.

Uh oh, most of my prints fall into these last two categories! I'm not sure I can snap pictures, so I may just add some finds. In the past I was a huge paisley lover, now I think I have one top with Paisley. Abstract floral and floral, is one of my favorite prints. Even my undies are floral!

Sooo, I am not going to post my spring/summer florals. So many! For anyone interested, they are here:

I just lurve floral! Generally my preference is for dark background and large scale. But I don't mind smaller scale (eg my h&m top), especially if it's graphic/black and white.

Inspired by Bijou, I recently acquired a white floral scarf (black pattern on white background rather than the usual white/light pattern on black). I am very happy with it and on the lookout now for a white floral top for spring/summer.

I am also contemplating floral pants for spring/summer. See the find below. Still thinking about them. I have the matching top (also in finds) but I am not sure yet whether I would wear them together.

Here are a few pics of my autumn/winter florals, including today's outfit (7) and a better pic of the striped/floral outfit I posted last week (6).

Sal : lol, that's a great pic! - and a great look, too.

The Cat : my fave is #5 : stripes and florals, flattering dress, pretty coloured shoes and pearls - love it all.

Brooklyn : I hope you've been crowned Queen Florals? Because that throne certainly belongs to you. All good, I'll choose #3 because I love the proportions, and the tulips.
Hard to say if matching florals on top and bottom would look like pyjamas or super cool jumpsuit, without trying it on.

Deborah, no, no, I don't! Stop tempting me! But lovely to see you in floral.

SL, what? No floral for you? You are right that I was hoping for a jumpsuit look with the floral pants and top together. But I have tried them together and I think it's just too much floral for me. Apparently that is possible.

#1 I wore this Saturday night, to see my friend, who is the new frontwoman for a local band. It's a little bombshell, but hey, this is rock and roll.

In the other photos, I was just playing with ideas.

#2-3 are retro, pin-up looks, that I might wear to walk around DragonCon weekend. I didn't buy tickets this year, just going Thursday night to see the arrivals.

#4 is a new Ann Taylor skirt I bought this summer. I've worn this skirt a few times already, with more casual tops, and I wanted to if this would be something to wear to a wedding. The skirt itself is a little informal, because of the texture of the fabric, and the detail of the seams.

Fabulous show of florals here. The Cat, your pattern mixing is such fun and, Brooklyn, just WOW. Sal, lol at matching the wallpaper.
I am very picky about florals. My favorites are large sprinkled on with lots of background showing. Paisley is also a favorite although it has been scarce for years.
Today I am wearing a paisley-esque print dress over jeans, and adding photos of some other recent florals. Ack. They did not load in order. Today's is the red dress over blue cropped jeans (6) and I will probably need to add the red matching top (5) for warmth this morning.

Joy, I love your floral bomber jacket and your printed red dress.

I forgot that I actually have another floral item: an offwhite pyjamas jacket with a pattern of wine rosebuds and green leafs. It is so pretty that I have tried wearing it with everyday clothes, but it just doesn't feel right, so now I only wear it if I feel cold when sitting in my bed reading (a daily habit -- not feeling cold, but reading in bed ),

I have woken up to a beautiful array of florals and paisley and botanical prints. On a gloomy August day with rain and a sick son it is very cheerful (July and August are our worst months here - not always - but usually).

Jenni - no rush, the threads are not going anywhere. We got rid of our Sky Sub this year and I am missing GoT (I have to find a way to watch it).

Sisi - if you do not want to post a photo of you, then you could photograph your florals and just show them. We are a nice bunch (note the floral pun)- and thanks for the support.

The Cat - I agree with the others, you are an excellent pattern mixer. You get the colours and balance just right. I love the monochrome florals and stripes together. 5 is also my favourite but really they are all stylish.

Brooklyn - LOL!! I think Fashiontern had a thread about home decor and clothing.....I don't quite have any clothes that work with my hydrangea wall though.

Staysfit - what a lovely collection of florals. I adore the white Ted Baker Sheath dress - I would steal that right off your back:) The soft florals suit you very well - but they are chic not ditsy which suits your frame and personality. And paisley must be due a comeback !!

Brooklyn is definitely Queen Winter and Summer Floral (although there are a few snapping at her feet) and Empress of Dark Floral:) I love the floral skirts but cannot pick a favourite. I think you could rock the floral pants for summer dinners out or BBQ etc...

Deborah - I like that dress and it shows how florals can be a bt edgy. I love pretty florals too but they can be so modern. I can see how the dress is not a workhorse - but I imagine you pull it on two or three times a year and love it, and it certainly has longevity.

LBD - I love your concert look. I like to be bombshell too sometimes and it sounds like the perfect occasion.The full skirt is a fun retro look. The white skirt looks quite dressy to me - do you have a blue or green or rose pink top that would work with it?

Joy - yahoo a paisley look. With maximalism around I could see paisley making a return - and it works so well with menswear inspired looks. As a teenager I had a paisley mens' dressing gown and wore a vintage paisley cravat with my Dad's old wedding suit. Your florals are lovely and I can see the sort of flower pattern that appeals to you.

Laura - goodness more floral fabness. I love 1 - what a great look. And the dress in 5 is also very good on you. If you have more feel free to keep sharing.

Delurked - you win!! Perfect pattern matching and great for hide and seek.

I will add my two summer florals here - I am a couple of months away from pulling these out to wear. Aside from this my only piece is a silk top that I wear very rarely, and do not think I will wear this week, I need some high waisted jeans/trousers to wear with it (bootcuts or flares in my opinion) for 1970s fabness.

I forgot to mention paisley. I like it but it's hard to find. I have bought a pair of paisley culottes for this spring/summer. They are still sitting in my wardrobe with tags on, but I think I am going to keep them (as opposed to the floral pants - jury is still out on them). The culottes are quite voluminous, which seems key to me for summer pants, given the way I feel the heat.

Brooklyn, ditto from me on your crown. You have managed to make florals look sooo sophisticated in all of those looks, and every single one looks fabulous on you. Hard pressed to pick a favorite, but maybe photo #5 because I just love that skirt.

Joy, is that a dress, or a skirt and a top in photo #3? Either way, it looks absolutely gorgeous on you.

LauraG, you were definitely right about our style synchronicity. I'm loving all of your floral looks, especially #s 5 and 6. That adorable dress with the super cute shoes and pretty necklace, and then the floral skirt with the very feminine jacket and again, cute shoes – yum!

I only have a few floral items in my current wardrobe at the moment. The photos are of the piece that I actually already have a photo of on my phone, my floral jeans, which I absolutely love . They are Jen7, from Nordstrom, and I'm pretty sure I came across them as an Angie pick earlier this year; it's unlikely I would have seen them otherwise since I rarely shop department stores (except for the NAS this year and last), so, yay YLF!

The reason I have a photo of them is that they were the subject of a discussion about whether they were just too young and girlish for me, held between me, my best friend, and her 22-year-old daughter/my goddaughter. We were all dubious based on the website photo, but I decided the Not Dressed As Lamb blogger would approve of them ("Who wants to look 'age-appropriate' anyway?!") and ordered them to try on. We all voted unequivocally yes once I actually had them on. They're very comfortable and fit so perfectly into my current style. I don't know why these photos are so small, oh well. They're pictured here with two different shoe choices; even though I'm wearing the same tunic top in both photos I actually have quite a few different tops and sweaters that work with them.

I'll take photos of my other floral items when I'm home from work and post them later...

Sal : pretty tunic, I can see it's hard to style, it's basically a scarf sewn on the sides and have zero structure. Love both dresses, with a personal preference for the colours and shape of #2.

Berkeley girl : trousers look nice, not too girly.
LBD : I have to choose #1, you match your curtains! Seriously, though, great bombshell look. The last skirt looks great for a wedding.
Joy : love the colours of #1 on you.
Laura : I love that Pucci-esque print #1.

I have 2 florals, both on shirts.
A vintage, liberty one #1.
Dark florals shirt - forgot about it when Angie posted on dark florals because I mostly use it under wool pullovers.
I like the print, though, probably because the flowers are more geometric than curvy, and I think it's a waste to hide it under a pullover.
So I tried it with a suit.
It feels too dark, I'm used to contrast between shirt and suit. Maybe I'll feel differently in Fall...

SL, you do have some! The liberty shirt is a winner. The second shirt is lovely too but the overall look might be a bit dark for summer.
Joy, I think we have the same top! I will try to wear it tomorrow in your honour. We are having mild weather here, so I can probably wear a tee (even though technically it's winter).

Sal - I love how your white-girl-nude shoes let your dark floral top have center stage.

The Cat - way to mix those patterns! I especially like #5. Is your chain belt in #2 vintage? I have one very like it from the 60s.

Staysfit - I had no idea you were such a girly girl! The Komarov blue and violet dress may be my favorite. I haven't bought a Komarov dress yet but it's just a matter of time. The sheath dresses are a cool non-girly way to do floral.

Brooklyn - and there's how to do floral without looking girly at all! You have really dialed in your color palette, silhouette, everything. Nice to see such a well-developed personal style. #5 is my favorite.

LBD - *love* the embroidered black skirt on you!

Joy - I love the look of floral where it's less expected, as in your vest and cardigan. Adds a level of sophistication above the more usual floral dress/top. #2 works on every front --silhouette, the sweater color repeated in your shoes, and of course, killer shoes!

delurked - I think blending into the wallpaper is relurking...

JAileen - you may not have much but those last two scarves are gorgeous!

I have more than I thought!

The WIW photo shows my surprisingly versatile floral scarf. For some reason, of all my scarves, this one is the pattern-mixing all-star. It just always seems to work.

My other floral items are all in Finds: a FreePeople tunic, silk kimono (which I also wear as a scarf), and a lovely embroidered top from Anthropologie.

I'll be back to pick some favorites to everyone later, but ironically, I have to go make some flowers (bonus photo 2...it's not wallpaper, but my studio is full of paper flower inventory...wonder if I could use my clothing for inspiration? Or better yet, Brooklyn's clothing. ).
