The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale has officially begun and is open to all. Brand new merchandise for Fall and Winter will be discounted for two weeks only. Prices go back up on August 3rd. There was so much amazing stuff this year, that I found it more difficult than usual to create my list of top picks. The highlights of the sale were dresses, fun casual footwear, vests and jeans. Coats and jackets were also pretty fab.
I spent a week preselecting the sale with clients and we all had a ball! We ticked many things off our shopping lists and effectively refreshed our Fall and Winter wardrobes. Along the way I created these lists. I’ve seen all of these items in person and on a range of body types, across petite, regular and tall women. You’ll see a wide assortment of styles here because lifestyles, style preferences and budgets differ across my clientele.
A few things upfront:
- Items are often available in multiple colours so do browse through all of them.
- Check if the items are available in petite and plus sizes because in some cases I have only provided a description for the regular size. Nordstrom’s in-house brands usually provide plus and petite sizing.
- Items do come back into stock, so don’t give up too soon if your favourites are currently sold out.

Dresses
To kick things off, here are my favourite dresses.
- Taylor Dresses Graphic Print Scuba Shift Dress: A retro, washable sheath that runs large. Best on a straighter figure, apple shape or inverted triangle. Works well as a tunic on tall gals.
- Topshop Belted Denim Jacket (Nordstrom Exclusive): An amazing '70s inspired denim dress that runs big. Size down one or two sizes. It has very high side slits so consider yourselves warned. Looks AMAZING over leggings and skinny white jeans.
- Jean Paul Gaultier Print Turtleneck Tulle Trapeze Dress (Nordstrom Exclusive): Lightweight, dramatic and very breezy despite the turtleneck. Runs small.
- Julia Jordan Eyelet Sheath Dress: An elegant textured sheath WITH sleeves. Looks as fab in ALL the sizes. Great in all four colours. Read the rave reviews.
- Tracy Reese Rose Print Stretch Crepe Sheath Dress: A tailored sheath with strategically placed torso ruching that smoothes out the midsection. Runs small.
- Karen Kane Pencil Sleeve Faux Wrap Dress: A great dress for a curvy hourglass or pear shape. Works well on a rectangle with a strong shoulder line. Runs big. All the colours are fab.
- Karen Kane 'Brushed Flower' Print Cascade Faux Wrap Dress: Great when you are very curvy and can fill out the silhouette. Do not get this if you can't fill out the shape. Runs big.
- Eliza J Floral Print Ponte Fit & Flare Dress: A flattering shape on a petite pear or curvy hourglass. Length is quite short.
- Adrianna Papell Jersey & Pleated Chiffon Fit & Flare Dress: A great Winter dress. Tailored but not at all clingy. A little modern flapper style is fun with textured hose and Mary Jane heels. Read the rave reviews.
- BCBGMAXAZRIA 'Frank' Roll Sleeve Crepe Shift Dress: The tabs on the sleeve are intricate and beautifully made. Great sack dress for petite apples, or a tunic on taller gals.
- Halogen Side Shirred Knit Dress (Regular & Petite) (Online Only): A tailored dress that fits close to the body but is not clingy. The asymmetrical hemline makes the silhouette trendy and unique. Lots of rave reviews.
- Adrianna Papell Placed Floral Print Crepe Sheath Dress (Regular & Petite): A spaced floral is fun to wear for Autumn & Winter. No need to save it for Spring. Elegant.
- T Tahari V-Neck Woven Sheath Dress (Regular & Petite): A classic sheath with a great neckline for a larger bust. Great length for tall gals.
- Lafayette 148 New York V-Neck Punto Milano Fit & Flare Midi Dress: The touch of leather trim on the neckline makes this frock look current. The weighty fabric drapes like a dream. Super layered with a short black moto.
- Trina Turk 'Natasha' Floral Print Dress: Best on a petite hourglass with a small bust.
- Eliza J Print Ponte Midi Sheath Dress: Great on tall, straight gals with a small or regular size bust. Runs at least a size small.
- T Tahari 'Nova' Sheath Dress (Online Only): Flattering, interesting and plenty of length for tall gals.
- Eliza J Print Ombré Sleeveless Fit & Flare Dress (Regular & Petite): Excellent on a very curvy petite hourglass or pear shaped body type. The ombréd pattern creates and extra hourglassy effect. Good drape.
- Eliza J V-Neck Ponte Sheath Dress: Very elegant on a straighter figure, or inverted triangle. Not good on apple shapes or very curvy figures.
- Maggy London Lace & Crepe Sheath Dress (Regular & Petite) (Nordstrom Exclusive): Great on a rectangle, inverted triangle or less curvy hourglass. Extremely elegant. The length can absolutely work on petites with heels.
- Betsey Johnson Ruched Ponte Sheath Dress: Great on a rectangle, inverted triangle or less curvy hourglass. Quite camouflaging on the midsection.
- Maggy London Floral Print Scuba Fit & Flare Dress: A flirty frock in amazing scuba fabric that is machine washable and crease resistant. Fabulous on hourglasses and pear shaped body types, but nice on a straighter body too.
- Maggy London 'Shadow Branch' Print Scuba Midi Dress (Regular & Petite): The fabric is soft, weighty, stretchy and non-crease. Tailored but does not cling. Great on a rectangle, inverted triangle or less curvy hourglass. Not good on apple shapes. Extremely elegant. The length can absolutely work on petites with heels.
- Classiques Entier Keyhole Neck Ruched Waist Dress (Regular & Petite): Gorgeously '70s. The fabric and drape of this dress are divine. Brilliant on curvy gals. Match with knee-high boots or platforms.
- Helmut Lang 'Nova' Print Ruched Jersey Dress: A gorgeous pattern in an intricate draped silhouette. Runs very small and is shorter in person. Best on a slim, non-curvy petite.
- Vince Double Layer Shirtdress: AMAZING dress. Isn't quite as short in person. Has fitted all sorts of body types. Sack-like, yet structured. Drapes like a dream. Works well for petites with heels.
- NYDJ 'Aubrey' Colorblock Plaid Sheath Dress (Online Only): Works well on a tall hourglass figure. The colour blocked insets visually define the waist.
- Nic + Zoe 'Splash Twirl' Elbow Sleeve Knit Fit & Flare Dress (Regular & Petite) (Nordstrom Exclusive): The silhouette was made for curvy petites with a regular or large bust.
- Adrianna Papell Stretch Crepe Sheath Dress: Good on hourglass or straighter figures with a small or regular size bust. Not good on a large bust because of the cut line under the bust.
- Eileen Fisher Jersey Jewel Neck Flare Dress (Regular & Petite): A brilliant sack dress for hot sticky weather. Runs large. Fitted on top and very roomy from the bust down. All the colours are great.
