London-based Marsha Campbell writes about life and fashion over at Style of a London Tall Girl. Our 6 feet tall blogger is a jewellery maximalist who mixes Modern Classics with on trend items and arty pieces. Her style is bold, ladylike and polished. She sports bright colours and neutrals with equal pizzazz, loves to accentuate her waist, and has an amazing eye for colour and impactful outfit combinations.
Marsha loves to accentuate her waistline, and the self belt on this bold striped kimono-esque blouse makes it easy to do just that. The blouse flares out nicely over black skinny jeans. Notice how the skinny fit tempers the volume of the bell sleeves. Marsha picked a cropped tweed jacket, in a hard to find mint green, to throw over the outfit. It adds Chanel chic to the outfit, and works well with the green, blue and white stripes. Cobalt blue sandals with lace-up detail bookend the sunglasses and pick up the blue in the striped top. A statement necklace in lime and khaki doesn’t match but complements the main colour palette. The earthy fringed clutch brings a touch of Boho to the look, the black hat and mirrored sunnies add playful drama.
I call this one Arty Chanel Girl. Marsha has a knack for finding interesting pieces. Here she’s paired a sleeveless sage green top with eye-catching floral print trousers. The top’s funnel neckline, asymmetrical hemline, and rather rigid fabrication create strong architectural lines, which are further emphasized by the black obi belt. The voluminous pleated trousers — don’t they have a fun bloomers feel to them — taper to the calf, which reins in the volume. The large-scale antique floral print against the dark background make them even more dramatic. Our blogger is a jewellery maximalist, and accessorized this look accordingly. A pearl bracelet, pearl earrings and shiny brooch channel her inner Chanel girl. A big link bracelet and partly transparent cuff on the other arm add more bling. The classic Channel bag, a casually draped white moto jacket and pointy-toe sci-fi silver flats finish off this ladylike look.
A white suit feels powerful and timeless to me. It’s eye-catching on its own, but Marsha amps up the oomph factor with cleverly chosen colours. The single button blazer hits at the hip, and is tailored longer in the torso to perfectly fit tall ladies. The matching cropped trousers with tapered hems draw the eye to our blogger’s fun green pumps that are an exact colour match for the structured satchel. Pairing the white suit with a zingy animal print blouse in orange and turquoise is unexpected. Adding a yellow Winter coat is more proof that Marsha knows her way around a stunning colour palette. The coat’s fuzzy fabric creates cosy textural interest. The silver bib necklace worn over the fully buttoned blouse, and Marsha’s beloved Chanel brooch add shine. Her bright pink lippie and neon pink nail polish are the unexpected maximal finishing touches.
The unusual colour combo is the first thing that caught my eye. Soft, feminine and elegant. Marsha is sporting a blush turtleneck sweater over a pleated faux leather knee-length skirt in cognac. The chunky knit paired with the perforated material of the skirt creates unique textural interest. Our blogger reins in the volume of the big sweater by scrunching the sleeves and belting it with a colour blocked waist bag that cleverly picks up the colours in her outfit. Blush pointy-toe pumps echo the colour of the sweater. Tucking her long locks inside the collar streamlines the look. A pink twisted rope embellished necklace, big link bracelet and burgundy Panama hat also complement the soft colour palette. Marsha’s bright pink lipstick is a sassy finishing touch.
These white denim flares make 6 feet tall Marsha’s legs go on forever. Hurrah for perfect pant lengths! She’s wearing the jeans with a mid-thigh length A-line tunic with quirky palm leaf print that makes the white look extra crisp. This time, Marsha accentuated her waist by knotting a thin gold braided belt. Keeping her triple row necklace, link bracelet, on trend leaf ear cuff, and pointy toe pumps gold gives the look an extra Summer-y feel. Putting up her hair in a top knot and sporting big sunnies further emphasizes that effect. Draping a versatile denim jacket over her shoulders adds a nonchalant touch. Plus, the blue denim works well with Marsha’s oversized envelope clutch.
What a happy explosion of colour and pattern! The big poncho is the star of the show with all the other pieces working together to create a gorgeous impactful look. The elbow-length sleeves and side slits balance out the volume of the poncho. Wearing it over a simple white tee and skinny jeans does the same. Marsha makes mixing four different patterns — a tartan scarf, Aztec print topper, patchwork jeans and graphic grid print bag — look like a piece of cake. Picking one dominant colour combo, red, white and black, pulls together the entire look. Bookending the vibrant tomato red Chelsea boots with a stylish red Panama hat creates visual harmony.
