It’s a woven shirt season, and all types of shirts are having their fashionable moment. From Modern Classic tailored styles and gently fluid looks, to very fluid and oversized silhouettes, across all sorts of lengths and with varying degrees of architectural drape. Hems can be asymmetrical, staggered, curved or straight. Most shirts are collared, and their design details vary. Some are simple and others more complex. Most quiet roomy shirts are in neutrals like white, black, grey, navy, light blue, and subtle neutral pinstripes or self-coloured dots.

They make a quiet on-trend statement in a neutral. The roomy fit can range from fluid to oversized so take your pick. Very comfortable and easy to style in outfits. Here’s a good assortment of examples.

You can wear the fluid and oversized styles as is, in which case asymmetrical hems will add a little structure by tempering the volume. Soft fabrics will drape closer to the body which further tempers their boxiness. You can tie the front into a loose square knot, or semi-tuck the front, to hint at some waist definition. As for the collars, wear them buttoned to the top, or open at the collar. A white camisole will make a white shirt look more rich and bright. A little camisole lace peeking out from under the shirt is pretty too.

Here are some easy combinations across a range of quiet roomy shirts.

1. Sneakers and Slim Jeans

Combine a roomy tunic shirt with a pair of slim-fit jeans, and finish off the look with a pair of fashion sneakers. The white top and shoes complement each other here, but feel free to choose any neutral. Throw in a neutral or non-neutral bag, and finish off the outfit with fun earrings, necklace, or arm candy. Think ballet flats, mules, sandals or loafers if fashion sneakers aren’t for you.

2. Smart Casual

This version is dressier because of the tailored torso fit of the peplum shirt that flares into a roomier fit below the waist. The jeans are slim to offset the volume and add some casual. Footwear is dressy to add back the smart. Add accessories of your choice to complete the look.

3. Athleisure

Combine a quiet and long roomy shirt with a pair of Athleisure joggers. Leggings will work too. The asymmetrical hem here makes the outfit more interesting and creates a magical diagonal line across the front of the body, thereby providing a subtle form of structure. Fashion sneakers with white soles match the white of the top. The snakeskin is a fun addition. My favourite part here is how beautifully the silver-haired model wears white, and how the white soles of the sneakers bookend her look.

4. Relaxed Dressy

The architectural cut of this particular roomy quiet shirt is fabulous. It’s straight but curved, asymmetrical and tailored in interesting places. A top that needs to stay untucked to showcase the shape. Dark blue looks great with black, and provides an alternative to a column of black. These bottoms are dressier long shorts, but feel free to choose your own version of black bottoms like a skirt, jeans, or pair of pants. Here are some examples.

Dressy footwear makes the look dressier, but heels are not essential. Dressy flats are fab. Add jewellery, eyewear and watch as desired.

Relaxed Dressy

I’m a collared and woven shirt gal because the silhouette is a slam dunk for my body type, and crisp woven fabric makes me happy. I have a large collection of roomy shirts because they are my go-to tops for warm and hot weather. They are my “T-shirts”. Covered, breezy, natural fibres, very comfortable, and dressier than a T-shirt. The untucked oversized and architectural silhouettes will work on my slight frame when the collars and sleeves are tailored, and I scrunch the sleeves to show some skin. Sometimes I semi-tuck for a little structure. Here are the quietest roomy shirts from my shirt capsule. I wear them with blue and white jeans, checked warm weather pants, patterned jeans, and some patterned skirts. Sometimes I pop a lace camisole underneath to amp up the pretty.
