Josephine Lalwan (73) lives in the UK and spends part of the year in the South of France. She documents her outfits on her blog, chic at any age, and on Instagram. Josephine’s style is classic with on-trend touches. She likes to sport maxi skirts, loves pearls and hats, and looks amazing in lilac and pinks.
“My style has not really changed over the years. I tend to buy classic investment pieces for my basic wardrobe and then add accessories especially jewellery, scarves and hats to personalise my outfits. I like to experiment with different combinations. I give a nod to the fashion trends, however generally stick to the shapes that suit me. I do like a bit of humour and quirkiness. I like to have fun with my clothes”
This is a fab example of Angie’s Easy Summer Dress Outfit Formula. Josephine is sporting a relaxed-fit linen midaxi shirtdress in eye-catching magenta. The white top peeking out adds crispness and bookends our blogger’s on-trend sneakers. The side slits allow for breezy ease of movement and add an alluring touch. The button tab is a fun little design detail. An oversized beach bag in cream and white amps up the casually relaxed Summer vibe. The dusty pink floppy hat is unexpected paired with the magenta dress, and brings playful glam to the look.
When the sun is very strong, Josephine likes to wear roomy, loose-fitting tops, like this white blouse with mandarin collar. The A-line silhouette, crisp fabric, and layered front create an architectural effect. The fitted shoulder adds structure and tempers the volume. Our blogger has paired the blouse with black relaxed-fit tapered trousers, and trendy fisherman sandals. The white footwear bookends Josephine’s silver hair. Lilac is one of my favourite colours, and Josephine is rocking this cool-toned shade of pastel purple. She’s wearing a linen maxi shirtdress with V-neckline that is perfect to showcase her playful bubble pearl necklace. The silver metallic belt with laser cut-outs adds structure and a bit of subtle bling. The outfit would look great with silver or white sandals, or fashion sneakers. A white fedora and black sunnies add flamboyant flair. The white clutch, pink lipstick, and soft scarf in shades of pink, purple and light blue that work beautifully with the dress complete the look.
Josephine combines cropped navy trousers with a pink geometric patterned blouse for this polished casual Spring look. The barrel trousers subtly “balloon” away from the thighs, while the hems taper back to the leg, which adds structure. The blouse’s flowy silhouette and balloon sleeves create a volume-on-volume look. Josephine has tied the tie-neck laces lower on the chest so that they don’t compete with the chic string of white knotted pearls. At first, I thought the sandals had a floral print, but they are in fact adorned with sparkly, bright-coloured rhinestones. So fun! Red lippy and toenails, sunnies, and a cream fedora finish off the look.
Josephine dresses up a flowing casual maxi skirt with a white button-down shirt. Tying the shirt at the waist lengthens the leg line from the waist down and adds a sassy effect. So do the popped collar and scrunched sleeves. Our blogger’s white fisherman sandals make a second appearance, and pick up the white floral pattern in the blue skirt. Knotted pearls further dress up the look, and add subtle lustre.
This is another magnificent-in-lilac look! Here, our blogger has paired crisp white relaxed leg trousers with an oversized sweatshirt for a nonchalant volume-on-volume look. Folding back the sleeves adds some structure. Adding a scarf in a slightly darker shade of lilac creates a tonal effect that feels harmonizing and fresh combined with the white pants. A pearl bracelet, pink lipstick and Josephine’s trusted white fedora are the accessories of choice. I can see white, lilac, or light pink sneakers working beautifully here.
