There are countless ways to wear a casual Summer solid or printed skirt. Choose a length, fabric, silhouette, and colour palette that tickles your fancy. Add a top, a pair of shoes, a bag, some jewellery, and a topper if necessary, and you’re done. For footwear, think sandals, mules, espadrilles, Fishermans, Docs, cowboy boots, fashion sneakers, loafers, clogs, wedges, ballet flats, caged sandals, slides, Birkenstocks, thong sandals, and flatforms.
Here’s a large collection of casual skirts.
On to some outfit ideas:
1. Sleeveless Top
The easiest way to wear a casual skirt on a hot Summer’s day, is with a tank top that matches the skirt. The tank can be fitted, or fluid. Tuck, semi-tuck, or leave the tank untucked. Add shoes and a bag to match. Here are some examples.
If basic tank tops aren’t your thing, pair casual skirts with other types of sleeveless tops like banded tops, silky shell tops, ruched tops, crochet tops, ribbed tops, or wrap tops. Here are some examples:
2. Breezy Topper
Combine a casual skirt with a top like the ones I’ve suggested above. Add a very breezy topper like a gauzy cardigan, or lightweight linen jacket. Finish off the look with sandals, and casual jewellery like these beads. Throw on a straw or Panama hat, and a bag that works with the outfit.
3. Tiered and Tied
Combine a flowing casual skirt like a tiered style with a layering top. Add a long-sleeved chambray, linen, tencel, denim or cotton shirt, and tie it at the waist. Scrunch the sleeves. Add Summery shoes to match. Here, I like the low contrast between the layering top and the shirt. You can make them the same colour too. The white slides match the white top and white in the pattern, which pulls the look together. Long-sleeved shirts are a fab way of preventing the sun from blazing down on bare skin, and provide insulation for cooler mornings/nights and air conditioning.
4. Scarf and Fishermans
Combine a causal skirt with a simple top that matches the pattern of the skirt. Pop a scarf in your hair that matches the outfit for a fun Modern Retro vibe. Or wear a low ponytail and tie a smaller scarf around the band. Finish off the look with on-trend shoes like fisherman sandals, or a style that tickles your fancy. Low-contrast footwear against the model’s skin lengthens the leg line.
5. Draped Maxi
Combine a maxi or midaxi skirt with a buckle-twist top to create a draped effect and asymmetrical hemline. If buckle-twist tops are not for you, try another type of draped top, or top with an uneven hem. Add casual sandals and a bag to match. Add jewellery, hat, eyewear and watch as desired.
