Stamford-based Jacqueline Andrea Smith (47) is a retail manager for a big box store, and documents her outfits on Instagram. Her style is on-trend and vibrant. She likes colour and midaxis, and is a big fan of shackets. Jacqueline often sports sneakers and chunky footwear, and her fab cropped ‘do adds edge and interest to everything she wears.
“Casual chic is how I would describe my style, if the look can’t be paired with a sneaker or chunky boots then it’s not for me. I’ve started to inject bold colors which brings me back to my island roots.”
Jacqueline goes cosy casual in a cobalt cashmere sweater and distressed skinnies. The light blue of the distressed skinnies works well with the vibrant blue of the untucked turtleneck. For a third piece, our blogger picked an oversized on-trend shacket that combines all the colours in her outfit. The plaid print brings pattern into the look, while the boxy fit adds volume that is balanced by the skinny jeans. White sneaks add a sporty touch. The small crossbody, bright red lippy and earrings add polish.
The striking combination of teal and camel is a successful mix of cool and warm tones. Jacqueline is sporting pleated wide-leg trousers at an extra long length. She’s buttoned up the cardigan and is wearing it as a sweater tucked into the trousers. This lengthens the leg line from the hip upwards, while the V-neck adds vertical integrity up top. Her black chunky round-toe shoes have an on-trend lug sole that is the exact same colour as her cardigan. The fun round bag also matches, which creates further outfit cohesion. The double-breasted blazer in cool-toned browns and black contrasts with the earthy camel in a modern way. A chain link necklace and oversized hoops add polished bling. And as always, Jacqueline’s cropped ‘do adds a good dose of edge.
The elegant checked coat is the star of the show here, with the funky boots coming in as a close second. Jacqueline dresses up a dark grey midaxi sweater dress by pairing it with a beautiful black and white check maxi coat. The tailored fit adds lots of structure and strong graphic pattern. Our blogger then adds a pair of tall chunky black boots with bright green tips and soles. The one-of-a-kind boots add a playful touch. The black bag goes well with the coat and footwear. Dainty necklaces, hoop earrings and red lippy finish off the look.
Cheerful pattern mixing with buffalo plaid and animal print. Jacqueline is wearing black skinny trousers with split hemline as a fun design detail. She’s paired the pants with a hip-length cardigan worn as a sweater. The chunky-knit grey and black animal print adds textural interest. So does the cosy shacket in bright tomato red and black. Repeating the black in the shacket and cardigan creates visual cohesion. The shacket and cardi are the same length, which eliminates too many horizontal cutting lines. Also note how the black vertical border on the cardigan blends into the black pants, thus drawing the eye up and down, and creating vertical integrity. The black sneakers peaking out from under the trousers have a similar effect. Jacqueline completes the look with an oversized canvas bag, layered necklaces, thin oversized hoops and dark red lipstick.
Jacqueline goes Sporty Luxe in vibrant cobalt blue and apple green. She has tucked a white slogan tee into full-length straight-legged dressy trousers. The tee casualizes the look, which is juxtaposed by popping over a tailored double-breasted blazer with gold buttons. The bright blue and green add tons of Modern to the Modern Classic blazer and trouser combo. Our blogger then pairs them with super chunky athletic sneakers for a Sporty Luxe vibe. The yellow stripe on the side of the sneakers subtly brings another colour into the mix, as does the structured crossbody in pretty pink and orange. Her dark lipstick adds drama, and our blogger’s short curls add bouncy softness.
Our blogger is a big fan of knit leisurewear sets, and I for one am a big fan of this yellow and sand striped set. It’s a fun variation on the matching sweater and skirt set. The cheerful sunny yellow combined with the cosy softness and nonchalant drape make for a perfect combo. The white sneaks peeking out from under the full-length wide-leg trousers add a sporty touch. The sweater’s deep V-neck creates vertical integrity that counteracts the horizontal lines of the stripes. The semi-tuck hints at a waist, and adds some structure. It also offsets the horizontal lines in an interesting way. Throwing over a tailored Modern Classic trench in sand is unexpected, and dresses up this casual look. So do the pearl necklace, polished earrings and lipstick.
