I recently asked our forum members to recommend their most comfortable Summer sandals. They were quick to oblige and as a result there’s a detailed thread on the forum that goes into the specifics of many Summer footwear styles. There is a lot of useful info, like why they are comfortable, and whether the sandal is suited to low, regular or high volume feet. All the sandals were tried and tested by our forum members for at least one season.
Here’s a summary of the comfy standouts from that thread, along with a few additional styles that have received rave reviews online. There is an assortment of silhouettes and price points. Many styles are available in many colours so do click through the options. You might need to size down half a size in open toe sandal styles when you have low volume feet.
- Unionbay Women's Melissa Black Floral Footbed Sandal: A floral Birkie lookalike at a fraction of the price. Good on wide, high volume feet.
- Naot Women's Cheer Slingback Sandal: A casual dressy sandal with good arch support.
- Birkenstock Granada (Birko-Flor™): A Birkenstock with different strap styling. Good on regular and high volume feet. Fun in metallics.
- Naot Footwear Relate: Very supportive, works for both low and high volume feet, and has a comfortable footbed. Good for Team Chunky Shoes.
- Munro 'Abby' Slingback Bootie (Women): This has been THE winner with clients with all sorts of foot issues. It's available in narrow, regular and wide widths. Very soft and cushioning and you can barely feel the heel. Works on feet with bunions in wide sizes. Many colours to choose from. They would be mine if they came in white and had a light-coloured heel and sole. I love the toe coverage.
- Gentle Souls Women's Lansbury Platform Sandal: Fashionable, very cushioning and quite supportive.
- Kork-Ease 'Austin' Leather Slingback Wedge Platform Sandal (Women): '70s fabness and very stable if you can manage the heel height and platform. Read the rave reviews.
- Dansko Larissa: This has been a huge winner on clients with very fussy feet. Excellent arch support, very lightweight, super cushioning and very stable. Works surprisingly well on low and high volume feet.
- Franco Sarto Utility Wedge Sandal: An affordable wedge gladiator for high volume feet.
- Gentle Souls Women's Us Two Flat: Great on a flat and wide foot. Very cushioning, but no arch support.
- Munro 'Zena' Sandal (Women): Extremely buttery and soft. Available in narrow, regular and wide sizes. Looks best in black.
- Earthies Versailles Women's Sandal: Great on high volume feet with high arches and insteps.
- Softspots Softspots Women's Tatianna Sandals: Funky, fun and pretty. Good arch support and toe coverage.
- Luxury Rebel Women's Elena Gladiator Sandal: Works on regular to high volume feet. Extremely comfortable footbed.
- Naya Seeker: Fashionable and fairly supportive. Quite lightweight despite the chunky nature of the style. Works quite well on low volume feet if you size down half a size.
- THE FLEXX Band Together: Super soft and flexible. Like butter on the feet.
- Ecco 'Rivas' Wedge Sandal: A simple classic that is well made. I vote red all the way.
- Pedro Garcia 'Vicky' Grained Leather Sandal (Women) (Nordstrom Exclusive): Pricey but very comfortable and fashionable. The online review suggests to size down, which is true even for high volume feet.
- Paul Green 'Coco' Leather Ankle Strap Sandal (Women): A dressy sandal that could go to the office if open toes are allowed. Might need to size down half a size.
- Paul Green 'Trisha' Sandal: Super comfy with ample coverage and a nice tailored fit. A HUGE hit with clients with fussy feet.
- Eileen Fisher 'Allot' Flat: This sandal had mixed reviews with my clients. Those who need arch support did not like it, but those who didn't found it extremely comfortable. Works on both high and low volume feet, but isn't the best style on narrow ankles.
- Teva 'Universal' Flatform Sandal (Women): Sporty Luxe Deluxe. Works well on high insteps and high arches. Many rave reviews.
- Franco Sarto Women's Holt Flat: An extremely comfy ankle strap flat with genius back criss-cross strap detailing. The top and bottom straps are attached to each other, which makes the style more stable to walk in because the straps stay put.
- Söfft Sofft Women's Ilissa Wedge Buckle Fashion Sandals: A classic that looks most fashionable in white. Good on higher volume feet.
- Arche Women's Drick Flat: More of a peep-toe loafer than a sandal, but breezy nonetheless. Good on wide feet, narrow heels and arthritic knees. Sporty Luxe Fabness.
- Taos Women's Party Dress Sandal: Good for tender soles that are prone to blistering & plantar fasciitis. Good arch support, traction and secure ankle straps. Buttery soft.
- Toni Pons 'Tarbes' Espadrille Wedge Sandal (Women): Good for wide feet and narrow heels. Also good for arthritic knees despite the wedge heel. Fashionable.
- FLY London Women's Bian Gladiator Sandal: Buttery soft, but no arch support. Good on narrow heels.
- Naot 'Ashley' Sandal: Surprisingly good on both low and high volume feet, although low volume feet might need to size down half a size. Quite secure and supportive despite the slip-on style.
- Eileen Fisher 'Sport' Platform Sandal: This sandal had mixed reviews with my clients. Those who need arch support did not like it, but those who didn't found it extremely comfortable. Works best on high volume feet.
- FLY London 'Ylva' Sandal: Funky, buttery and quite supportive. Best on higher volume feet.
- Söfft 'Mariana' Espadrille Wedge Sandal (Women): A '70s classic that looks particularly good in white. Good on wider feet. You might need to size up a size.
- Gentle Souls 'Break My Heart' Sandal: Very fashionable and buttery soft. Not very supportive, so best on feet with low arches. They are SO lightweight, you can barely feel them on your feet. Read the rave reviews.
- Gentle Souls 'Lily Moon' Sandal: A repeat style sandal that's good on low volume feet. Dainty and pretty. Amazing reviews.
- FLY London 'Yala' Perforated Leather Sandal: Funky and casual. It's like walking on air with these on your feet. Generally better on regular and high volume feet, but not too bad on low volume feet when you size down.
- Miz Mooz Women's Pasadena Wedge Sandal: Fashionable and pretty. Might run a size small.
- Andre Assous André Assous 'Dalmira' Wedge: The espadrille-sandal hybrid is a super way to add a casual heel to your outfit. Very flexible and forgiving. Good on feet with bunions.
- Kork-Ease 'Carolyne' Sandal (Women): Comfortable and fashionable, but not that stable if your feet fall inwards as you stride.
- Naturalizer Jazzy: Wow. What a comfy flat despite the peep-toe detailing. The dear little wedge is a supportive delight. It comes in narrow sizes for low volume feet, and wide sizes for extra high volume feet. The floral pattern is super fun, but my heart is with the white.
- Miz Mooz Bridget: A fun twist on a sweet and classic style. Runs a little wide.
- Miz Mooz Shay: Sturdy, funky and good on higher volume feet. Runs a size small.
- Miz Mooz Cali: Fashionable, stable and quite unique. Works well on a narrow ankle because you can adjust the straps. They might run a size small.
- Miz Mooz Women's Roman Sandal: Extremely buttery soft and well made. Fun colours. Runs wide across the toe box, so not good on low volume feet.
