Baby Blue Coat and Trademark Pearls

A new outfit from Jean Wang of Extra Petite, who we introduced to YLF in October 2014.

A tailored Modern Classic coat feels extra fresh in this shade of baby blue. Pairing the delicious pastel with white is a slam dunk. An on trend colour combo that is soft, yet strong. The bold high-contrast horizontal striped tee adds fun graphic oomph. Jean’s nonchalant ponytail adds further playful pizzazz. Our blogger has rolled the relaxed fit skinnies to showcase the back part of her refined ankle strap pumps. The quilted Chanel bag is an interesting touch: the bronze doesn’t match but goes with her taupe pointy-toe pumps. Jean finishes off the polished smart casual look with her trademark pearl earrings and necklace.

This is a lovely combination and Jean has reminded me and taught me that I can wear my light blue moto, happily, with my striped shirts, favorite skinnies and pumps and look as special and glamorous as she is doing here in your post. Marvelous.

Hah!-) I see we’ll need to come up with some kind of rotation system for that stunning blue coat, so we can take turns wearing it;-)
Vicki – I’m loving the sound of your striped outfit. Go for it.
Lisap – High five! I am definitely feeling drawn to pearls again too, and wore a double strand pearl necklace just last week. And am currently trying to find titanium pearl stud earrings (my ears have become very sensitive these last few years-( I’m seeing lots of modern and unique pearl jewellery pieces online (and am loving them), but in the shops over here I’m still mainly seeing more traditional pieces (single and double strand necklaces, small stud earrings etc.), and I’m also not seeing a lot of people sporting pearls in the street (which will not stop me from wearing my pearls whenever the mood strikes though).
What are you seeing in your neck of the woods?

What a fabulous, classy outfit! Simple and chic and the kind of look I aspire to – though without the heels (humph!). Do pearls ever go out of style? A single string will always look classy IMHO but as with all jewellery it depends on the context. A more modern way is to wear two strings of bigger (10mm plus) pearls of slightly differing lengths together, or one very long opera string which is versatile and can be worn several ways, or layered with plain metal chains of varying lengths. Good quality pearls are a lot cheaper than they used to be, especially the not quite round ones (called ‘potato’) which can be anything from oval to nearly round. There are plenty of craft and jewellery fairs nowadays where you can buy a couple of strings plus a clasp and some beading silk and have a go for a fraction of the price of decent shop bought ones. There are plenty of how-to videos on YouTube. All you need is some supplies, time and a decent pair of specs! I took a deep breath and strung my first set about six months ago and the outcome wasn’t bad (if you don’t look too closely!). Practising on some cheap round beads first is a good idea, though…..
The end result was well worth the effort and looks much classier than the repro ones and (hopefully) will last much longer.

Inge – late, sorry, but just had to pop back in to say that both you and Jean inspired me to put on an old favourite big pearly necklace – non-traditional almost a piece, rather than a necklace – to dress up my work outfit yesterday. Had to shake off the feeling that I was headed to a wedding, but LOVED it! They are definitely making an appearance here in retail, but not so much yet on anyone . Typical
