The gift of reusable shopping bags

December 8th, 2008

Australian Envirosax makes my favourite eco-friendly shopping bag at the moment. It’s attractive, compact, portable and lightweight. It’s made of a durable waterproof polyester, holds up to 44 lbs and rolls up into an impressively small 1.4 oz package. You‘ll hardly notice its presence in your handbag.

Spread the environmental message with style with reusable eco-chic shopping bags. For $8.50, or $37.95 for a series of five, they make great stocking stuffers, hostess gifts and items to put into gift packages you’re sending abroad.

The envirosac is offered in a variety of design options and colours for both adults and children. I like the graphic monochromatic series and stocked up on these over the weekend. If these particular eco friendly shopping bags don’t tickle your fancy, there are plenty of others to choose from.

Those are really pretty and I think I would remember to use them, unlike so many I have in the car trunk or in my house that I forget to take with me.

Angie,

I discovered these bags about a year and a half ago and they are absolutely fantastic!

I bought the set of 5 in the monochromatic black/white and use them all the time – groceries, shopping, dry cleaning, etc. They fold up into a tiny roll and take up barely any space at all. I always carry one in my purse and usually keep the entire set in the car for grocery trips. I’ve been giving these as stocking stuffers and birthday gifts to friends and family and they have been a huge hit.

Thanks for the terrific gift idea for one of the hard to buy for stragglers on my list! I’m ordering the monochromatic ones as we speak!

I love my envirosaxs as well. I use them for shopping, gym bags, carrying lunch to work – basically whenever I need to cart more around than fits in my handbag. Surprise suprise one of mine is red!!!

I use Baggu bags instead because I like the longer handle – these come in much nicer patterns though! Baggu bags come in good colors and fold down tiny very easily though so I would still recommend them if you are looking for a handle that can go over your shoulder.

I really love my Envirosax bags. I use them for so many more things than groceries. The fact that roll up in the little bundle makes remembering them so easy because they are small enough to keep in your purse.

Wow, I just saw these on 3Luxe’s gift guide and thought they were great ( http://www.3luxe.com/best_ofs/2008_Women’s_Christmas_Gifts_-_Under_One-Hundred/Envirosax )and I was thinking about picking up some for myself as well others on my gift list – it is great to see all the comments from Envirosax fans! These are definitely going in some Christmas stockings this year.

My pleasure, Meredith.

I was hoping that the Aussie YLF’ers would post a comment! Thanks for the validation to those who use the envirosac, and you won’t be disappointed if you’re a newbie to the product.

San, you make an excellent point. If the bag is in your handbag, you’ll remember to use it. I have the polka dot one on the left and just as everyone has mentioned, it comes in handy for everything.

Very cute designs! If I didn’t already have a large collection of canvas tote bags (freebies from work) I’d be looking around for something similar. I do most of my grocery shopping on foot and reusable cloth bags with wide handles are so much easier to carry than plastic bags. The first time I walked to the supermarket I carried my purchases home in standard plastic bags and the skinny handles dug into my fingers the whole way back home.

Oh dear. Does it make me unAustralian to learn about an Aussie product via an American website? I hope not!
My flatmate and I have a raft of canvas bags we’ve picked up from around the traps for our shopping, but these are so much prettier and fold down to next to nothing for fitting into handbags. Too bad I’ve done all of my Christmas shopping, but I’m bookmarking it for next year.
Thanks Angie!

Anne in Reno I don’t know what Baggu bags look like, but the envirosax ones do fit over your shoulder – that was one of my main concerns too when I was buying them. They are very comfy!!

Not only are these good for the environment, stylish and practical, they are fair-trade products made by people earning a living (not a minimum) wage. What’s not to like? Fair Indigo (www.fairindigo.com) stocks four different sets of five Envirosax each. The website is a great source for fair-trade items (I especially like their jewelry) and has cheap shipping too!
