[1.] Worn to have my first mammogram done. I'm "over 40" and my mum had breast cancer when she was 36. Slightly uncomfortable, but I really didn't care plus the fact I wasn't expecting to have one at all made it all easier - no anxiety or thinking about what it'd actually be like.
Rite of passage, definitely.
Outfit inspired by the lady I saw at my GP's office earlier that week, she wore grey and black with statement silver jewellery, and looked lovely. I personally liked the simplicity and comfort of this outfit equally. On a separate note, two things made me post this outfit first although it's more recent. I loved what I read in this newsletter from Dr. Northup:
- ...about ten years ago I began referring to the month of October as Breast Health Awareness Month (instead of Breast Cancer Awareness Month). Because what we pay attention to expands, I would like women everywhere to focus on breast health. Although society might suggest otherwise, your breasts are NOT two lumps waiting to suddenly become a malignant death sentence.
[2.] Family day out, Munich take 1. Inspired purely by the green scarf I love.
[3.] Errands, play on the outfit and the formula from before.
[4.] School run, tunic again, ponte pants, scarf, jacket and my "Melody Gardot" glasses. These are the old sunnies I don't wear at all recently, but the colour of the lens is very easy for the eyes and I was listening Miss Gardot the whole day, so was inspired to reach for them. The scarf was chosen as it has the same shade of purplish in them. Inspiration *is* everywhere.
[5.] Errands. Play on black + navy. I bought this chunky cardigan as I need shorter, warm version for layering. It actually has nice structure which makes me feel like I (almost) wear a jacket.
[6.] Errands on the bike. Adapting this black dress for colder days.
[7.] Family day out, Munich take 2. Octoberfest makes the city insanely crowded. Inspired by the story of Jil Sander and the photo of her in simple outfit: black turtleneck, pants and flat shoes, which made me start with my "Mandipa shoes" (Mandipa linked to these Clarks oxfords a while ago). The jacket is navy. I also layered hose for warmth and was so happy I did that - it was the first practical and style-defining tips I picked up on YLF.
[8.] There IS method to this madness, honestly: I wanted to pair black and navy (dress, cardigan, respectively); I needed the scarf for extra warmth as I was coming down with a bad cold (tried the one with navy tones in it); I wanted a bit more colour (purple hose pick up another colour from the scarf); I belted the cardigan hoping it would work this time with the chunkier specimen AND since it was already wild for what I normally wear why not add pink shoes to add more interest? I am not sure I would repeat the outfit, not because I don't like it - I did and still do, and especially how it made me feel - but this was really spur of the moment and I went with it.
[9.] Building site gear. I finally stepped inside the actual future living space I only knew from the plans, drawings and my imagination. I am soooooo happy with some changes of the original layout plans we asked for. More on my house update thread in case you care.
p.s.
Yes, my clothes and accessories have names which is why I love my wardrobe even more.
