What to wear with a long tulle skirt?

Hi -
I live in NZ and spring is in the air!
I will turn 50 in a few weeks and need to do some things I always wanted to, but never have .... the bucket type sort of things. One of them is to buy a maxi grey tulle skirt, but I have no idea what to wear with it, because I don't wear high heels. Brogues and a tight top? I am not the slimmest woman on earth and have short grey hair.
Any suggestions?
Do you own a tulle skirt and what to you wear with it?
Any advise welcome!

Natalie (Goldenpig) had a post a few weeks ago with 2 tulle skirts--with boxy sweater. That looked great. She showed various footwear including strappy flat and a sneaker.

Fitted vs boxy would be a body-type/shape thing choice, but I think the key is to not be too long if the skirt is long. And texture contrast. For winter, fluffy angora types are great ( or something like that but not really angora, which drives me crazy with shedding--maybe mohair) bur for a springy look, there may be something slightly chunky but cotton-rich or linen knit. There is an option of a longer top that makes the outfit look more like a dress, if colors match closely.

I have several pairs of brogues but struggle to work them with skirts esp. long skirts. I find a bootie easier (in theory mind you, as I don't have a maxi skirt but am relating to dresses) or a flat that is refined and maybe pointy--I'm not big on pointy, but for dressy and long, it helps do some of what a heel can do. With a bootie I can often do a modest chunky heel so that also can be part of the strategy.

By the description, the skirt will bookend your hair, which is great!

Immediately I thought of a sequin sweater or top, close fitting, tucked in.

Tulle skirts always look good with a wrap top and laced ballet shoes,but I like mine with a chunky boot and chunky sweater. We're gonna want pjotos of your choices!

When you say maxi, the tulle skirt is full length? Have you considered a midi length?

Don't have any tulle, but I have a couple of approximations for you...

I sometimes wear a long plissé skirt as a visible underskirt under a long tunic. Outfit 10-11 in this post is transitioning effortlessly into winter with opaque tights and boots:

I say go for it. You should be able to pick up a trial version vintage or thrifted. Shop around!

I will wear booties or brogues and something black and tight as a top (yet to be found, but I don't think that part will be too difficult). I have a X/hourglass figure and all the tulle makes my bum SO huge, that I need to have something fitting, I believe.

I actually haven't thought about a midi length; I saw the skirt in Lisbon when I was travelling, fell in love, didn't buy it because of the price, got very annoyed about myself, ordered it yesterday and will pay a huge amount for postage as punishment now ! The only one I could find in highly fashionable NZ is a creamy/nude Trelise Cooper one and I totally dislike the colour. And the price is almost the same, even with the whole postage-punishment...

I used the search for 'tulle skirt' and got no results at all (don't know why), so apologies if my question has been asked before.
