After yesterday’s dress failure (http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....cleo-dress) and this morning’s “first” outfit (http://youlookfab.com/welookfab/topic/wiw-bb-vest), I got to thinking about how ill-fitting clothing and style experimentation can really hammer at a person’s self-confidence.

Logically, we all know when an item doesn’t fit, it isn’t us – it’s the item that isn’t working. But…when you already have a few body image issues, that ill-fitting item can suddenly become so much more than just an article of clothing. And I’m afraid that posting the pictures of myself in those ill-fitting items makes those feelings even more exaggerated as I can now see it in full colour on a large screen. I need to find a way to look at myself more objectively and not so critically.

I’ve also realized that although I enjoy some style experimentation (i.e. my recent baggy britches and menswear attempts), straying too far from my own style and my rubric leaves me feeling lost and confused. I often don’t really understand where I went wrong in my attempt and end up feeling foolish for having tried. I know what works for me and what I look and feel good in – why don’t I just stick with that? I think it has to do with seeing so many fabulous ladies rocking different looks and I feel inspired by that to try it myself. But I think I'm trying too hard.

I also find that posting my outfits, although an amazing learning experience, has prompted me to put pressure on myself to constantly come up with new and innovative outfits rather than be satisfied with the outfits I know I look and feel good in.

I felt awful in my first outfit today and changed my clothes about 5 minutes after I posted it. This photo is of what I finally wore to work and felt good in. As a result of the last few days and this morning’s frenzied wardrobe session, I have made a pledge to myself:

I HEREBY PROMISE TO BE TRUE TO MYSELF AND MY STYLE AND TO ONLY WEAR THE THINGS I FEEL FAB IN, EVEN IF IT MEANS I’M REPEATING OUTFITS MORE OFTEN

Style is supposed to be fun and lately it has not – I’m going to change that.

Have a great day everybody!
