Hi Ladies,

I think I should start with a disclaimer! This is NOT a rant about my DH. He is in fact a wonderful, thoughtful and sensitive person. And I DID ask! And even after today's conversation, I would marry him again in a heartbeat

Shopping today (http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....ies-part-2) DH said the items I was looking at looked "middle aged". That led to further conversation about my general style and what he thought. It seems wise to point out here that DH is not the least bit interested in fashion but of course, like everyone he is entitled to an opinion and I do respect his.

I discovered that he has definitely noticed a change in my wardrobe since I joined YLF and he feels some of my outfits look 'too old". So I got out my phone and we scrolled through my outfits on Stylebook and he pointed out what he liked and what he didn't.

What I discovered (in relation to my style) is this:

He doesn't like:

Asymetrical hemlines
Patterns, particuary patterned jackets! (He hasn't seen my new Zebra jacket yet!!)
Unconventional Shoes/boots (that means patterns)
Looks that are too conservative

He likes;

Black!
Jeans outfits
Solid Colours
Shoes in solid colours (no pattern or bold colours, tho he likes my red pumps)
The outfits he particularly liked are predominately black and ones that could be described as being a touch edgy.

Interestingly some of the outfits he wasn't crazy about are ones they I have reservations about too. They look good but ' are they me'?

This middle aged comment was amusing because he is in his early 50's and I am in my late 40's... I think that makes us both middle aged... I chose not to remind him of that though:)

To give you some visuals:

#1 Is what I wore today and he likes this look.

#2 He says the scarf makes this interesting so it's ok

#3 Too conservative but gets it's suitable for work

#4 Doesn't like this, I think it's the pattern (I LOVE this tunic)

#5 I should give this dress to my mum

#6 Likes this.... but the shoes...really??? He doesn't 'get' them

#7 Liked this.

#8 Hated this! Interesting because I don't like it and wont be wearing this combo again.

Anyway that's as far as we got before he lost interest. It was a pretty good effort really for a fairly traditional Aussie guy who lives in jeans and tshirts or a shirt on a special occasion and finds discussing fashion somewhat 'uninteresting' shall we say.

He did say that he loves that I am always well dressed, well groomed and he thinks I always look lovely (sigh). I think in the whole time we have been together only twice has he queried something I was wearing, and both times he was right, and I knew it. In these instances, his comments confirmed what I suspected.

Im sharing this for a couple of reasons. 1 is that it was kind of interesting and funny at the same time, 2 I wonder if your SO has shared their thoughts about your general style, 3 style and fashion is clearly so subjective and we are influenced by certain associations, and 4, as our style is continually evolving I think my DH's comments will be very useful in my continued style evolution.

Oh, and while I am not fishing for compliments, please tell me my style does not look "stereotypically" middle aged.. that's not what I'm going for lol.

If you have read this far, you are a trooper.

xxx Deborah
