The saga continues

I have decided that the pants I was looking at in this thread

are not quite what I am after. So I returned to retry a pair at Jacqui E that I really love in theory. I ended up trying two pairs.

#1 are black and white and I tried these on initially for size because they didn't have the blue geo print in my size in store. However, I quite like them and they could be an option.

#2 Are the Geo print in blue, white and black. These are the ones I particularly like.
Note these are a size up as my size was not in store.

#3 is a close up the pattern of #2.

#1 are a great fit. They would require alterations thought as I would like to TAPER THE BOTTOM HALF OF THE LEG and their is some hem allowance if I need it to achieve ppl.

#2 The pattern looks way more fab IRL. These are a size up from my actual size hence they are too big. I could order my size on line. The SA said that the Blue geo will fit very much like the pants in #1 once I have my size. So I would again be looking at tapering the bottom half of the leg and again there is about 1.5 inches in seam allowance if I need it.

In #1 I am wearing the store's shoes, top and blazer. For the wedding I would be considering the blouse in #4 with a fitted blazer, maybe my white one or my black.. not sure yet and weather would dictate a little here.

Also the store is having a two day sale with 25% of pants (finishes tomorrow) and that would be great as it would balance out the cost of the alterations:)

I would so appreciate your wise counsel. My DH was with me and he commented that the fabric of the pants (a sateen), along with the patterns were a bit old fashioned and 'middle aged'!!! YIKES. He said it very nicely and carefully and I DID ask him what he thought. I will be doing another post shortly to elaborate on the extended discussion that followed, but in the course of that he selected #5 (pls excuse the lack of shapewear here) which is a dress I already own as being lovely for the wedding. I was trying to move away from my tendency to wear black to every special occasion I go to:)

As I mentioned, I am now feeling a little desperate for advice.

Dear Deborah:

So frustrating to have something in your mind, and then have difficulty locating the right specimens!

I like the print very much, and I can see it looking particularly fab with the navy top and a white blazer. I think they'd either need to be seriously tapered, or lengthened, or perhaps both.

DH eyes need to adjust. BTW --- I think you need an LBD that's solid, but not black. Do you have something already in your closet?

Thanks so much Beth Ann, you know I only have black dresses in solids. I have been keeping an eye put for a navy LBD (LND) but to no avail. I did try a lovely cobalt sleeveless dress with leather trim but I just felt bored by it

I think I missed the other thread but I really liked those other pants and they kind of look like the suit that caro bought recently which I thought was fabtastic.

Deborah, the prints on the pants are neither old-fashioned nor middle-aged. Having said that I'm not feeling the love for these pants, however you can ignore my opinion because for the most part I'm not a fan of patterned pants (with some exceptions eg floral jeans lol).

I think the pants have potential Deborah - can you peg them at the back so we can see how they would look tapered? I love the navy top & white jacket with them too:)

We must be patterned pants twins because I have a similar print pant from French Connection (different style though).

People associate big prints with older women I think. I don't think your DH understands how on-trend prints are.

Prints also have the effect of eye strain for some people.

I think you are right to want to taper the pants as it's not the print but the leg shape that is less youthful.

I very much like the last dress with the red accessories. Simple but brilliant and my favorite of the lot. (But I also loved the jacquard suit.)

Hmmm - not really easy to give you advice here. I identify with falling in love with colors and pattern, I do that a lot! The pants have fab pattern, and I think your DH needs to do some homework:) I love the color and pattern in #2, but like said already, the shape is not the best. I'm sure you will work this out.

I love the classic LBD with red on you, and this is a very good fallback option.

My experience with print pants with Hubbies is that for some strange reason they don't particularly like them! (Hence the moniker 'P.J.s' for my paisley print ones)
However, EVERY time I wear them I receive compliments from other ladies, and I feel great in them!!
I really like these Deborah, and in the correct size with tapering they will look the opposite of 'middle-aged' and just perfect.
And, a nice fresh look from your usual (FAB) black dresses etc.

You mentioned that you tried on a simple LBD and were bored. I've sensed this in your last few posts --- which were great by the way. Style is a creative outlet for you, not surprising since your work, your DH's calling and your family require focusing deeply on others. Perhaps your looking for a few tweaks to your style, hence the "Wedding Pant Suit."

You're in a great place. You have a wardrobe that is so elegant and chic and works beautifully for you right now. You have all kinds of FFBO while you play with new ideas and remember to have fun with fashion!

I think you need to taper and lengthen the pants, and then they could be very cool and stylish. As the are, I do agree that the shape (but not the print!) is a little frumpy.

Well. You are KILLER radiant in #5 with the red accents :). It is hard to beat that look when it's a 20 out of 10.

I read your other thread Debs, and left a comment.

As far as the pants go, I prefer the original sateen and jacquard idea as opposed to the pattern.

U look amazing in number 5 black never goes wrong and the red accend with the lip lovely doooooooooooo the cat eye!!! and u will look amazing plus its in you closet u save money mmm if u have a white blazer can be a great add on ....

You look just brilliant in that dress, AMAZING! Also I adore the pattern on the pants, very much similar to what Prada was doing this fall. But I agree they would look better tapered. I am a patterned pants fanatic!

The pants you posted before looked wedding-ready to my eye because the jacquard looked dressy - slight shimmer, tonal, hefty. These look way more thin and casual in both fabrication and print. I think I am a nay vote on both. :T *ducks*

I know that ALMOST anything goes in terms of dress code these days, but I would want you to double-check that pants are acceptable to the bride. I've been to several weddings where she specified "semi-formal/formal" attire, and definately not pants.

That said, when I was married it was not super-dressy, but I made an effort to make it a nice event with a nice meal, and I was a bit miffed when several of the kids in the family were dressed like they were going skateboarding! You can buy children's button-downs and dress slacks at the Goodwill, after all...
