Sandals with lace-up vamp detailing are a fringe trend. The flat styles look particularly Greek and Romanesque. This style of sandal fits a range of foot widths because you can adjust the position of the laces. Tie them tighter for low volume feet, or looser for high volume feet. My initial reaction to seeing this style was that they would be uncomfortable. But I was very wrong. If the leather and laces are soft, and the footbed is cushioning, then they are surprisingly comfortable.
Here’s a selection of trendy and comfy lace-up sandals, most of which I’ve tried on my own feet. Choose your favourite heel height and browse through all the colour options.
- Paul Green 'Cosmo' Peep Toe Sandal (Women): Functional, fashionable, well made and very comfortable if you can manage the heel height. Might run half a size big.
- Bella-Vita 'Pixie II' Cutout Lace Up Sandal: Sparkly, low-heeled and supportive. Read the rave reviews.
- Topshop Lace-Up Gladiator Sandal (Women): Comfortable if you don't need much arch support. Very pretty on the foot.
- Topshop 'Fig' Cutout Lace-Up Gladiator Sandal (Women): Surprisingly comfortable, glam in a casual way, and quite "gladiator".
- Jeffrey Campbell 'Cors' Suede Peep Toe Bootie (Women): Super soft suede makes these heels a dream on your feet. Looks great with skirts and dresses. Edgy in black.
- Jeffrey Campbell 'Rodillo-Hi' Wedge Sandal (Women): High-heeled but soft and cushioning nonetheless. Read the rave reviews.
- Jeffrey Campbell 'Rodillo' Wedge Sandal (Women): I thought these would look awful on the foot until I tried them. They look fashionable, elegant and a little '70s. Soft, comfortable and pretty.
- Hinge 'Roman' Strappy Lace-Up Sandal (Women): A Roman strappy sandal that's a little more hard-edged.
- Hinge 'Drea' Peep Toe Leather Sandal (Women): A more streamlined and slightly dressier version of the heeled lace-up sandal. Super cute and fashionable with casual dresses and cropped pants for an office that permits open-toe footwear. My favourite heeled lace-up sandal of them all.
