Modern Retro Pastels

A new outfit from Veronica Popoiacu of Bittersweet Colours, whom we introduced to YLF in August 2013.

A casual chic matchy-matchy look that is fab for Spring. Veronica creates a fun outfit juxtaposition by sporting a short shift dress with white Nike sneakers. Sporty Luxe meets Mod. Wearing her hair up emphasizes the clean lines of the dress with high crew neckline. Pairing the peach dress with a roomy collarless cocoon coat in a matching pastel shade gives the outfit an elegant Jackie O vibe. The oversized buttons provide both textural and visual interest. An on trend bucket bag in a beautiful deep red adds outfit depth. Big sunnies finish off this Modern Retro look.

Nice outfit, but I admit to being too old-fashioned to love the sneakers. I see them as a comfort shoe here, but not a fashion/look shoe, and to my eye they don’t enhance the outfit. The rest of this is kind of a nice Tippi Hedren-Hitchcock 50s look, and she would wear a good pump with this dress and coat. That’s what I’d like to see with this ensemble.

Just love it. This is exactly how I love to dress. I like the idea of the darker bag against the sweet peach and white – and I may not have made that choice myself, erring on the more conservative side. I am pinning this one to copy . Thanks , Inge!

This looks just like an outfit that I wore in 1970 except that mine was natural linen color and the coat was shorter. I wish that I still had it except that I would not wear anything that short now. It felt elegant.

Clean and modern. The sneakers work here because of the higher hemline and the shape of her legs. I don’t think I’d be able to pull this off, but it looks great on her.

Again I say, “Love to see pastels back in style and purchasing availablilty. As a true, blue eyed “blonde” summer, it has been very hard to shop for either clothes or fabrics with jewel tones dominating the fashion market. I have bought in desperation several outfits or items that aren’t really my color just because there was nothing else available, and have ended up not enjoying them when or if I do wear them. I am truly at home in pastels, I think I will be buying a lot while they are in style to stock up for the lean times of more primary colors. Hope I have a season or two.

For got to add that the red bag is an okay “splash” or “pop” of color, probably would not have been my choice. The shoes look plain dumb, like she got in a hurry and couldn’t figure out what to wear to the office, or maybe she is on her way to the office and the dress shoes are in the bag? Sneakers only degrade a otherwise very chic outfit, sneakers belong in the sports world or around the house, not with your “dressy” clothes. Even some cute sandals would have been better!

I love this whole look. This is the way I might be able to wear a coat-dress combo, dressed down and modernized with sneakers. I also love the rich red bag with the peach ensemble, and it’s not a combo I would have thought of. The cocoon coat and shift dress are beautiful shapes and lengths together, too.

I like that despite of the girliest colour of all, the outfit doesn’t look girly. This is my only, and most favourite way of muted pastel pink. I’m still thinking of getting a likewise-coloured coat or bomber jacket, despite it being outside ALL my other style parameters!
