Great affordable tote from Gap

November 5th, 2008

The current economic downturn means that we need to stretch our fashion dollar further. One of the most cost effective ways to update and refresh a seasonal look is through the addition of shoes, handbags and accessories.

Flat totes continue to be a practical and fashionable win. If you’re into faux patent leather and enjoy the look of a slouchy oversized tote, this Gap carryall is for you. They are available in purple, grey, cream, camel and black in stores (fewer colours are available online). The bag is sturdy and 100% plastic without looking cheap and “plastic-y”. It’s a vegan-friendly steal at $49.50 (full price). Add a discount coupon, or wait for the sale and you’ve scored an even better deal.

One of my clients pointed out this tote to me last week and I was impressed. I bought the grey and she came home with the cream and purple. The canvas strap is a little useless, so you can either cut it off or tuck it away. This comfy, casual shoulder tote will stylishly hold the kitchen sink. Thanks Joanna! I can see these totes becoming our travel favourites.

I have seen this tote in person and really liked it. Once it goes on some kind of sale I might get it. I like the black one the best ( already have grey and cream and purple patent totes). Thank you for the encouragement Angie!

Is this bag too big for a smaller woman? I am only 5′1″ – although I always wear heels so that gives me a little more presence. I have always heard that if you are small you can’t have a big bag.

Wow! Might have to visit that bag in person … it looks fantastic, roomy, versatile. Basically, like something that belongs in my little bag family. ;)

I might have to check this out- vegan friendly and it looks like the perfect size for carrying all my junk to tutoring and as an easy carry-on for the plane! The purple seems cute.

crystalyn kae has some great lightweight totes with a broader color range. i have one of the orange trapezoidal ones, and thinking of getting one with the patterned inlays.

It’s a big tote for sure, Debbie. It really depends on your style and frame. I’m 5ft 6 with a dainty frame and at a push, I can sport this tote because it’s flat and I err on the style side of dramatic. There’s only one way to find out. Try it.

Great looking bag!

Another great site for vegan bags is http://www.vegetarianshoesandbags.com/

Not only do they have great looking hand bags, they also have great looking shoes and boots!

AND one more reason to check them out is that they are running a free Shoes for a Year sweepstakes, good now through December 5.

The lucky winner gets a free pair of shoes every month for all of 2009. Entries are made each time a purchase is made, however no purchase is necessary. Anyone can go to the site to enter ONCE at http://www.vegetarianshoesandb.....ayear.aspx . They won’t accept duplicate entries at this address, however.

Good Luck!!
