This is a bit lame... I've been inspired to move forward on my fashion journey by this thread:

I think my most important next step is to think about what I want my clothes to say about me (I've been looking at Angie's post about getting out of a style rut). Silly thing is, I've struggling with getting some words down that describe me. I tried yesterday and didn't get very far! Does anyone have any suggestions of either posts on YLF that have lots and lots of descriptive words that I could get inspiration from or elsewhere on the Internet? I know I'll be fine once I get going...

In fact I'm sure there was a thread where people tried to sum up what they were some time ago. Anyone know where? (off to try a search on the forum...)

Polly your style has evolved at such a speed it's okay to sit back and reflect before moving on again, the thing I most admire about your style is how you mix practicality with playful elegance. I think you rock.

Thanks Julie, your comment has really brightened my day! Those are lovely words and it's interesting that's what you see (I have always thought that I'm probably too practical to be playful, so that's certainly made me open to more possibilities) I've made a long long list of words now to start to narrow down.

And you rock too!

I'm working on just this sort of list on my iphone, but I can tell it will take some time to percolate. Cileena I think had a great list on one of her threads... And Aida's was stellar... Can't wait to read yours! L

Hi Thunalata --

If you've never done "mind mapping" exercises before, just want to encourage you to use a word as a starting point and keep pushing associations until you feel you have a word that feels perfect.

So, to use playful as an example....

Playful --> curious --> investigative
Playful --> lighthearted --> joyous
Playful --> open --> explorer

You (may!) get the idea from my attempt to describe. Lots of stuff online that will give you a visual if needed/desired.

Aw, thanks Angie.

Too funny, I've been through all of my words and realised that those words cover it all for me at the moment:
Elegant encompasses all of the classic, simple, smart, ladylike elements I was looking at.
Practical covers physical practicalities of wearing suitable clothes and also that I don't like to spend ostentatiously or unnecessarily, and that I like clothes to last.
Playful covers my interest in having fun with new trends.

Can anyone suggest any personalities/blogs I could look at? I'm all at sea as I don't read magazines, watch much tv or films or follow blogs (except YLF!)...

I think thinking about words to describe you is a good start. I also think you should consider how you want to feel with your outfits: ie sexy, powerful, etc. Then you can brainstorm outfits you wear that make you feel this way.

Lisa - you're quite right. I need to think about the image I want to project here too. It all needs thinking about.

Thimbelina - it's fun, isn't it. It's taken me a while to get going but it's snowballing a bit like Vix suggested with brainstorming and mind mapping. I look forward to reading yours.

Taylor - you've always been so supportive cheering me on! It's good to remember how far I've come - I certainly had nothing to lose when I arrived!
