How would you describe your style?

I had to formally answer this question today. So just for fun, I asked my better half and a few others how THEY would describe my style and surprisingly - they came up with almost identical descriptions!

So over to you. How would you describe your current style? (I'll answer my own question later).

After the meet up this weekend and looking at the other ladies, I realized I am utterly opposite of what I thought : I am a VERY conservative dresser. ( My husband has been telling me this forever and I never believed him because he is a hippy at heart. ) I need to be a little hipper.

My goal is to be modern, simple and a bit elegant.

My current style? Eesh, still working on exactly what that is and not sure how I'd describe it. Just asked DH this question about me, and he said I'm cute and classy. How sweet is that? The words disheveled and "effort-full" come to my mind. I would like my style to be the same as Isabel's goals, and would add the goals of having a modern classic and effortless style.

I have no idea, one minute it's bohemian, the next it's trendy, the next classic. Still working on being consistent I suppose. Although since reading YLF I have definitely moved away from being so preppy.

Edgy, urban and probably trendy. But when I think trendy I think Forever 21, or the woman I saw in the dead of winter wearing a "J'adore Dior" t-shirt and cradling some insanely expensive handbag (forgot the designer) at a neighborhood bar in Fremont (neighborhood in Seattle). I don't object to designer bags, I have some myself, but the she was holding it better than most people hold a baby.

Ok, I will take it from you a compliment. I guess I prefer the term fashion forward or avant garde over trendy. But also when I think avant garde I think what Tilda Swinton wears, and am probably more trendy than her. I also realize my look is not for everyone, given the number of comments on my WIW posts.

From YLF's Style Persona guide:
The modern classic – you are preppy, but with a modern edge. Other then the odd stripe, you prefer solid colours. You are most comfortable in updated tailored items, twin sets, knee length skirts, button down shirts, dark blue jeans and plain pumps. Your look is simple, feminine, appropriate and understated.

OMG. I'm preppy! I had catagorized my style that way out of default (obviously I'm not trendy, urban or boho), but never really read the description. Interesting!

Off to buy an argyle vest.

Um, practical but trying to be bit more playful. Simple but trying to be a bit less so. I think I have some modern classic in there, but it's not all.

I asked my boyfriend and he said that when I wear dresses and skirts I look more cute and pretty, but when I wear pants I look more sleek and cool. He also mentioned that I change my style to fit with what I'm doing (though I feel like style transcends outfits or situations).

What do you think Angie?

I'd love to hear your take on whether or not you agree, Angie!
I describe my style as classic, refined, polished and fashion-conscious. By this last one, I mean that I'm definitely mindful of current styles and trends, but I don't think anyone would ever describe me as trendy or fashion-forward. I think elegant may also be appropriate for certain facets of my style.
Now what do you want your style to be...there's an interesting question for another day.

Preppy, modern classic - well at least I aspire to be! I also do some sporty (leftover from my CO days). I don't necessarily want to be trendy as much as current so I think I need to work harder to keep the modern in modern classic!

Anna, I adore Tilda Swinton (have had a huge crush on her ever since I saw Orlando) - she is so Avant Garde! I just saw "I am Love" the other day and she is just so brilliant!

I'm a California casual, urban, bohemian--with a heaping side of rocker tomboy.

The biggest misunderstanding of how I define my style is that I don't think of bohemian as hippie. I tend to see hippie as subcategory of bohemian.

Not sure how to classify my style, but I have learned not to ask my husband what he would say... Last time I did that he said "over complicated", boo.

Edit: Not to say that my husband isn't awesome and supportive (he is, hence his brutal honest opinion there heh). He considers layering in general to be "complicated" and would be happy to see me in jeans+tee+flats every day.

Edit 2: After some thought, casual pseudo-elegant punk? -_-

Right now I'd have to say "evolving and curious". Or "goulash". Is that evasive enough? I like certain items from every genre and era, despise others, and mix them all together in a random way that needs to be a little more thought out. Eclectic?

The last time we had a conversation about personal style words Angie described mine as modern classic with a funky twist. I think those still apply with a touch of hip, urban edge. I've been unable to embrace the latest trends the past few months due to budget constraints and oppressive heat but if there is another word I'd like to add it is trendy.

Anna, I haven't been able to post a lot but I have to tell you I totally, totally dig your style! The outfits you put together are what I envision in my head but can't totally seem to execute
