I’ve added two ‘new to me’ items to my closet this month - both thrifted! Early in the month I picked up an Italian silk scarf ($38 CA) and this week a lilac striped button down. The button down is a man’s Lipson shirt in pristine condition for $7 CA. Canadian company, and $165+ CA at select men’s stores. The cotton fabric feels divine against my skin, and I couldn’t wait to wear it!

#1-3 what I’m wearing (thrifted button down, OTF (elastic waist!) pants, RL trench, Converse sneakers, mask (by me) to pick up the new scarf at the dry-cleaners
#4-5 new scarf

#secondhandseptember= 1st class outfit. Marvelous purchases, Carla! That lilac trench is TDF. #secondhandseptember is something I've been doing seriously since 2012 after reading the book Overdressed.

WOW WOW, Carla! Lavender is SUCH a gorgeous color for you! The popped collar with the trench are styling life goals! It's interesting that your shirt is mens - do you find they fit better? I ask, because I find they fit me better in the shoulder than most women's shirts (and sweaters! No more pulling under the armpits!)

I picked up 3 pieces secondhand this month: a black pair of jeans and two jackets - one is a pattern, too! (Whaaat?!)

Lovely shirt and scarf,the second hand shopping fairies were smiling on you when you found these.That soft lilac colour is very pretty.
Sadly I am not going into Band M shops if I can avoid it at the moment so second hand shopping is off the cards for me presently.l do miss it but I have been wearing second hand clothes that I already Owned already this September as they form part of my regular wardrobe so l guess that counts.

@nemosmom - YES! I have a love/hate relationship with button downs, and a lot has to do with getting shoulders to fit, and arms that are long enough. Furthermore, I’ve never found a woman’s cotton button down that feels as divine as is common in men’s wear.

@Cardiff girl - I’ve been staying out of B&M clothing stores, with the exception of ‘Second Helpings’ - my favourite local thrift shop. It is large, airy, and not overstocked. They keep less stuff on the floor, and turn it over rapidly. Max 3 customers in the shop. I do my shopping early on a weekday. (I was actually shopping for high end men’s cotton shirts to use for mask lining!)

#1 Brooks Brothers! 100% cotton and softer than muslin or quilters’ cotton.

I’m right there with you Carla! I went to my favorite thrift store last week and got a couple of steals. A St. John knot blazer for $10.99 (retail’s for over $1500... seriously!) and an incredible suit by Canadian designer Iris Setlakwe. Can’t wait to showcase them here on the forum!

Also I love your idea of using shirts as masks - and since lavender is one of my ‘it’ colors too, I am loving this purchase! I’ll have to look through the men’s rack next time I’m there...

It is always secondhand September at my place! Love the new blouse and the entire lilac outfit. And your hair! Scarf is beautiful too. We are going into lockdown again (!) and I hope to amuse myself by posting some of my latest finds next week.

Gorgeous Carla - you have such similar colouring to my Mum (and hair) and she wore a lot of olives and lavenders as well - they suited her as her hair became softer in tone.

I love all these pieces - wonderful on you. The coats is a stunner!!

I have added two second hand blazers very early in September or late in August but they are the only successful second hand purchases this year. But these have been super in the short time I have owned them.

Geez- that scarf! And do you ever rock those Lulu OTF’s . And - I really like lilac for you , and I wouldn’t have expected to .

I’m doing my part In September with second hand/ vintage barware and cocktail glasses , and a silk scarf.

I haven’t been thrift shopping at all. I was happy to get rid of a bunch of stuff out of the back of my car today. My thrift store only accepts donations twice a week. I forgot on Monday, but remembered today, to get rid of some sweaters, turtlenecks, fleece, and other ‘treasures’.

You are lucky with your second hand shopping - great finds.
Unfortunately for me there isn't really nice second hand shop around and the ones that I visited before weren't good for small sizes.
Marshalls was my choice for nice add-ons in summer time ( and Old Navy clearance ).

I had decided that my shopping this year would be second hand. So far most second hand shops have been closed. Maybe when more open up. Most of my needs, small bags to carry my meter and phone, some wool sweaters in a color, and pants with elastic waists, are things I know I can find second hand. I love your new scarf. What a find!

I suppose I AM doing #secondhandseptember since 95% of my work clothes are thrifted, and at least half of my not-work clothes are thrift/consignment. You look amazing, so freaking chic!

I've not bought a thing clothing or accessory wise this month, either first or secondhand. But this UA top was from consignment, and wore it out walking a couple days ago on a colder morning.

Yes, I love second hand. I have a new jacket and winter coat on the way from Oxfam. The jacket is Dolce and Gabbana and looks to be potentially fab, with a nipped in waist.

I love that shirt! I’ve been trying to work more of that color into my wardrobe and a striped shirt like that would be perfect for me - looking for an almost but not quite white look. And yeah, some of my best button downs are men’s shirts.
