WIW Yesterday and today, and shooting with the sun in the way

I was TRYING to get some decent outdoor shots. I know you're supposed to shoot with the sun behind you (and yes I mean a camera) but the problem is, the sun is kind of to the side of the house. So here's what I ended up with. I know, I know, I need to smile. And mow the grass. Maybe tomorrow (for the mowing, not the smiling)

I wore this to go out to dinner with friends last night, and again this morning for a trip to get my hair cut. Last night I had a tan purse but this morning I switched it for a gray one per Angie's post.

Blue jeans - Gap BFs
Black and white banded top - Loft
Black studded sandals - Macy's
Silver belt - Fossil
Gray purse - Rosetti
Brown sunglasses - prescription, don't know the brand
Light brown/tan jacket - Geoffrey Beene for Women

So pretty! I love the metallic accents on your shoes and belt. In the picture, your top almost looks like it has gold in it but I'm sure it's just the sun. You look terrific.
EtA: and your grass is so green! We r in a drought so "brown is the new green" or so I'm being told!

Karie this outfit is so great on you - I really think you nailed it both in the color choices and textures and in the outdoor photography. I'm marking as a favorite so I can try to copycat.

Like kellygirl said, the metallic accents on your shoes and belt keep this neutral outfit interesting and fun. The outdoor pics are so much nicer than the indoor ones as the details are so clear.

Kelly and Mona, I never even thought about the metallic accents echoing each other - I'll have to keep that in mind for future pairings of the belt and the sandals.

Very nice - simple and interesting.
I also struggle with outdoor shots, especially in the evening when I am back from work. My backyard is facing west so a lot of slanted sunlight. It is great for moody pictures but not so great for outfit shots!

Thanks Jackiec, and the lawn is REALLY overgrown. DH does the mowing and he hasn't had time since we've been back from vacation.

Sveta, my backyard faces west too. In the afternoon it makes for a lot of shadows and sunlight.

Hi Kari- I love your style- hair, top, jeans,casual sandals- it's all perfect! The jacket is a perfect topper for this. The way you are wearing this banded top is really inspiring - I have had a hard time figuring out tops to wear with jeans that are dressier and the banded bottom adds such nice drape..... and it seems to work so well here . Great look !! Looking forward to seeing more of your posts.

Thanks everyone! IIlsap, I have decided I love banded tops best of all. They drape nicely and work well with a semi-tuck.

Greenglove, those are my current fav jeans, and I almost passed on buying them (seems like I do that a lot with things that end up being favs).

Suz and Karymk, the funny thing is, I didn't even think about the sandals and belt when I first put this outfit together. How fantastic that I chose the correct footwear and accessories! I didn't think of the gray purse, but added that when I read Angie's post. I'm getting there

And I want that belt too. I have an old one that color, but I never wear it in the summer because it's a bit too thick and bulky (it works better with winter outfits).
