Hi all

Still very hot and humid here so I have been in a bit of a style free zone. Over the summer my FFBO has proved to be a longline tunic over a skirt. I guess a tunic over a pencil skirt is really just a summer variation on a tunic over skinnies, isn't it? I have also tried the look with an A line skirt, with mixed results. Read on if you dare

Outfit 1: Longline tunic with side splits over pencil skirt. I wore this to an all day conference. The tunic is a light weight cotton knit. The skirt is also a knit. I took the scarf not so much for a pop of colour but because you never know how artic the air conditioning will be at a conference venue and it can get cold sitting all day. I could pull the scarf over my shoulders when it got too cool. The backpack was so that I would have somewhere to stash conference materials and still be hands free to attack the coffee and nibblies at the tea breaks.

Tunic: Cheap Monday (lots of similar ones on ASOS); Skirt: Veronika Maine; Shoes: Jo Mercer; Bag: Ash (I got it discounted from Gilt); Scarf: French Connection.

Outfit 2: Longline front split tunic over A line utility skirt. I wore this on a weekend for shopping and errands. I bought the utility skirt at the beginning of summer hoping it would be an alternative to shorts for dog walking and other outdoorsy activities. It hasn't really worked out that way. It is made from a heavy cotton and feels a bit stiff and uncomfortable on a hot day. You can see it also creases easily. Still I tried it under the tunic for a 60s shift dress look. I would rate this as a fail. I quite liked the silhouette but it felt a bit heavy and uncomfortable for hot weather. I think it would have worked better with a lighter, more fluid skirt. I may try something similar with boots and tights when the weather gets cooler.

Tunic: Veronika Maine; Skirt: Jigsaw; Shoes: Jeffrey Campbell; Bag: Marc by Marc Jacobs.

Outfit 3: Longline front split tunic over ruched tube skirt. Again, this was a weekend run about outfit. Much more comfortable that outfit 2. The grey tunic is the same style as the black one in outfit 2. I bought it in January when they were practically giving it away (the black one I have had for a while). Grey is not my best colour so I added the burgundy beads to warm it up.

Tunic: Veronika Maine; Skirt: Metalicus; Shoes: Nine West; Bag: Fossil.

Feedback, suggestions and questions are very welcome. But, no, I have no idea why I am wearing teal blue nail polish in outfit 3.
