WIW: Jacket challenge: too much leather?

I think it was Rita who said she doesn't wear tall leather boots with a leather skirt or was it jacket? Anyway, here's an outfit wearing three of my closet loves: Theory leather blazer, Gidigio boots, new Equipment snakeskin shirt. Old black ponte skinnies.

Well, I think it works great! That blouse is a stand out with the dark pants and jacket, as others suggested. And the buckles on the boots really break up any idea of "too-much" leather, at least to my mind. You have a nice mix of textures going on here. Very Una!

I don't think this is too much leather. I think if it was shiny leather or something it would look over the top, but this just looks good. Those boots are so excellent, and I love your new blouse with the Theory leather blazer.

I see why you love these pieces and don't think it is too much leather at all. If your boots were shiny and more plain, may be that could be an issue. These boots are fantastic.. Love the you are getting so much use out of the top!

Not too much leather! This looks superb!
I like your snake shirt better with black pants than with the metallic ones. The color just pops and the black picks up the dark shades in the shirt. And I LOVE those boots!
This is one of my favorite outfits of yours.

This isn't too much leather at all! And the blazer jacket is cool! I think the closer two pieces of leather are physically worn together- as in leather leggings and leather boots or leather skirt and boots, the more of an overdose it tends to be. But a leather jacket and boots? This combo was made in leather and faux heaven! (I personally prefer faux)

You look fantastic, this is one of my favorite outfits of yours yet! It just looks so great with your coloring, and the silhouette is excellent. I think it's the length of the green top that makes it so right.

I don't find this to be too much leather at all. I love the way the darker neutrals make the emerald shirt pop. And as JulieJohn noted, it gives you a very streamlined silhouette

I like it. It's tough. You can do a lot of leather when you do tough.

OH YEAH BABY!!! I knew this shirt would look amazing with your Theory leather jacket - so gorgeous Una. And not too much leather at all - as Suz mentioned, the buckles on the boots kind of break up any expanse of leather on your lower half and the jacket and boots are far enough apart on your body that it's fine. This looks fabulous on you!

Well I'm glad the consensus is that it's not too much leather, because I've wondered about the same thing. You look great, the blouse is fantastic on you!

Yup that was me. I usually don't wear knee high leather boots if I am also wearing a leather jacket. I think it works here because you have matte black pants that minimizes your lower half. Also, the boots have enough embellishment on them that they aren't reading as a large field of leather on leather. Love this outfit on you. That blouse is the bomb.

I don't like too much leather either but this outfit doesn't have that vibe at all imo. That blouse is the stand out piece, & amazing on you.

I think this totally works! It's not like they're over-the-knee boots or anything. It's a great guideline to break up your leather if you're going for balance, however rules are meant to be broken, and you live in Alaska, after all! It's not like you can wear espadrilles with this outfit.

As others have said, between the boots being matte and very be-buckled I think this is fine. And of course it helps that you have that whole Urban Princess Warrior side. You may be underleathered, actually!

I admit I'm very inconsistent about my opinions on this; it does seem to be tricky to strike the right balance. Do you wear a leather bag too?

Personally I'm now somewhat reluctantly violating my former personal rule, which was Modgrl's "avoid knee-high leather boots and jacket together when in a skirt/dress." The look is growing on me due to expediency/weather, ha!

BTW, the above is all your fault.

I'm not much of a leather jacket person at ALL, but I think you know I fell in love with that Theory jacket when I saw it on you. The suppleness! The sleek, powerful lines! The fake-a-waist design!

And of course you kept wearing/showing it and I kept drooling....

So when a saw a less expensive jacket with a similar vibe a few months ago I brought it home, tried it with a million of my staid basics, and kept it.

And no, I don't look at all UWP no matter how much leather is involved!

[pause for imagining what it would take to get me to that level, followed by hysterical laughter]

I'm just glad it's been an easy fit with my Contrarian Classicist and Persnickety Boho sides -- even if it means my outfits I would be the "before" to your "after" in an apocalypse movie.

Vix, I can NOT imagine a higher compliment than having YOU be influenced by ME! I'd love to see your leather blazer outfits.

I don't really wear a bag as most do here. I carry it to work over my long down coats, then back to the car. That's pretty much it. Usually it's my RATE black leather Coach bag. In fact, I often wonder how much this matters in my own outfits, since so many do change their bags for outfit purposes.

I can see a UWP becoming friendly with your Persnickety Bohemian and Contrarian Classicist - both of whom obviously have some attitude!

Since you asked...

Photo 1 = Back in black (with only a silk scarf for color) and making my Contrarian Classic side feel more of the former than the latter

Photo 2 = Knit skirt + jacket + Missoni fabric by the yard top for yet another Barely Boho turn

[I'm not a bag person either, but I realized I would make PETA very unhappy with the skirt outfit: leather boots, bag, and jacket. Canvas wouldn't fit with my look/feel, though.]

Photo 3 = Stock shot, Trouve jacket [It's called "Stealth," which I admit I love, ha!]

I think they made a mistake in not showing it open!

The knit insets on the sleeves and along the edge soften it up for me a bit and make it work better with my knit-heavy wardrobe. The color's also a soft black with "pewter moments" depending on the light.
