Star, thank you. I love foxes. I don’t think we have any where we live (just coyotes) so seeing one is like finding an Easter egg.
Brooklyn, thank you. If I had a nickel for every pair of nesting eagles we saw, well, I’d have a lot of nickels! Most were in more inaccessible spots, so I guess that particular pair was just protecting their family.
Robin, it was a great trip, except for the bone chilling cold on the boat. The island is mostly uninhabited except for the town of Dutch Harbor. We were driving around in a van, hopping in and out, and rarely saw any other vehicles. We would joke about the rush hour traffic, if we saw a couple cars at once. Apparently a ferry comes every couple weeks. The plane we took held about 30 passengers. There is a concern for weight. It’s the only time my carryon has been weighed. Our hotel was between a Safeway and an Ace Hardware. The prices were high. Very high. We bought a one pound package of almonds, and it was $15. But the fishing industry is very lucrative, apparently, so it’s worth it. But the nearest hospital is 800 miles away, so that’s something to think about.
Sarah, thank you. The Laysan Albatross was fascinating. Afterwards, I found most of my pictures from the boat trip were of it.
