WIW: High Waisted black skinnies - option 2 variant

Hi All

I wanted to try a couple of versions of this outfit formula.

I picked on 2 and 3 as my best options being short waisted with curves..So today I decided to try the duster version but wearing my kimono instead of a duster.

Lower contrast is much better for me when tucking - I also share a picture of high waisted mid rise jeans with a tucked top - also low contrast.

I wore an ink blue, black and cream kimono topper, over a simple black tee and skinnies. Ink boots and bag, and a cream cuff. I tried silver loafers and white sneakers but the boots were more flattering.

Worn to work which then turned into work errand running (we are frantically busy and I am the person who can do deliveries/pickups etc as I am non- technical and not needed for the engineering projects). And I drove past my favourite bakery/bread shop and decided to test their custard square - my favourite cake!! It was amazing.

So WIW: High waisted skinnies with a belly full of custard, icing, flaky pastry.....

I actually prefer the tucked high contrast in the second outfit! You wear BOTH versions of a high rise tuck well, Sal.

And I need a custard square right now. Tompoes in Dutch. One of my faves.

Sal, I'm still getting used to this look (ie tucking) so I'm following Angie's comments with interest.

We call them vanilla slices in Australia. (Yum!)

Anne- I am experimenting too. I find it easiest with my wider bottoms- culottes, flares, A line skirt. With the black skinnies I do feel my thighs and hips are very prominent. But they let me run and do lots of squat jumps so no complaints.

Fabulous. I prefer the second version (like Angie). But that may be because I prefer a structured jacket.
I like how you are wearing your jeans full length. I think I am getting tired of cuffs and crops. Are you? Of course they are good for the warmer weather - which is coming.

Beautiful both version Sal! I prefer lighter look , but the first one is very interesting with kimono and sunglasses. I like tucked top on you.
Send a piece of that cake, I like it, we call it cream pie.

Hahaha—i’m remembering last year when I was trying on tops from my closet, you said something like “those would be worn tucked in. Are you a tucker? You don’t look like one. I’m not a tucker either”. I remember it because I thought it was a funny comment. And now look—you are too a tucker, and a darn good one too! I like all three yummy pix here.

I like the high rise jeans on you. My favorite it the second....love the jacket. The dessert looks fabulous! The pic woke up my sweet tooth. It will be necessary for me to accelerate and drive past the local bakery. My stomach would not look so good after a delicious dessert.

How cool are the new sunnies?? I love how you inject fun and personality into your outfits.

Vanilla slices are one of my weaknesses too... life is too short not to enjoy treats, so glad it was a good one!

I like both of these outfits. #1 has more of an arty boho vibe, #2 is more crisp and prettier. I like them equally. Sterling talked about dressing for different moods, these are good representations of that - both are great smart casual outfits, but just project a different style.

Tucked in tops look great on you. Another look that you wear so very well.

Nice! I like both outfits. I think it's really smart to wear low contrast top and bottom in #1 to reduce the effect that high waists can have on short waists.

I have no idea what a custard square is but now I want one.

Your sunglasses made me smile I think you look great in both outfits, but not sure either pair of jeans are all that high-waisted, are they ? Looks like a regular rise to me. I'm wondering if my idea of a high rise is a bit distorted....

you look fab in 1! I love the sunnies! So much character! Agreeing with lisa p that both pairs do not look high-waisted. But no matter; they still look good.
The second outfit is good too but I really want to roll the hem of your jeans!

Brooklyn - thank you. I am a bit over cuffing too - I am not over cropped or ankle length. I liked the dark one better in the reality than in the photo but I think 2 is my preference too.

FT - not a tucker by nature either - but I am trying to be one. I don't really semi-tuck as I struggle to make it work - the full tuck seems to work better for me.

ML - it was a treat and I relished it. Not terribly healthy but I had heard rave reviews and since I love this bakeries sourdough, hot cross buns and croissants I thought it would be remiss not to try their custard square.

Thanks Bijou!! I have enjoyed the odd vanilla slice in my time too (much better than a lamington). I prefer the second look and I intend to wear that exact look today.

Sara - the custard square has two layers of flaky pastry, with custard filling and icing/glazing on the top. It can be done really well or really badly when cheaply made. I am all about low contrast with top and bottom - even the lighter look is fairly low contrast to my eye. If I wore the white striped tee tucked into the black skinnies I would feel pretty uncomfortable!!

Lisa and Smittie- sunnies can be such fun can't they! Now these pants come up to my belly button (both pairs) which on me is my slimmest point (not as slim as it used to be). The black are slightly higher but the tee is blousing a bit. I think of that as high rise but maybe it is a high mid rise? I used to cuff these jeans but recently I have been enjoying wearing them longer - the cuff feels too bulky. I might change again soon though!!

Well, #2 looks ah-mazing (must be time to make dinner).

I love your kimono in #1 and agree with you that #3 is not high contrast, more of a mid-contrast, and feels very put-together as the breton echoes the colours of both the jeans and the blazer. You do a really nice job injecting a bit of pattern and novelty without going over the top.

I really like both jeans on you, they suit you beautifully. Both outfits are chic. The first one is fun and interesting and the second is a crisp classic. Can’t pick a favorite. And such fun sunnies!

I like them a lot ... especially the first one.

They both work to my eye. Even though the second has high contrast between the pants and top, adding the jacket softens it so it's not a strong horizontal line.
Jackets seem to be the key to tucking...maybe its that simple?
