Wiw: green and gold and GO THE WALLABIES

Sally (Kiwigal) mentioned in her post http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....all-blacks that in honour of the upcoming World Cup game between NZ and Australia she was wearing all black.
Australia's colours are green and gold. Who is responsible for this travesty? It haunts us at every Olympic Games!!! But today in response to Sally's post I tried to rise to the challenge and do a green and gold outfit to support the Aussie team. (And they will need support against the mighty All Blacks.)
This is not the sort of thing I would normally wear to work but I was going out to a retirement lunch for a dear colleague so I looked dressed for the occasion. Plus I got bulk brownie points from my male colleagues when I explained the green and gold theme.
Green: the dress. Although one of my colleagues claimed it was black!
Gold: the cuff, ring and bag (goldish?) I am also wearing gold nail polish which I hastily and messily applied. (Whenever I do nail polish I am reminded why I don't do nail polish.)
Go the Wallabies!!!

Wow, you look awesome Brooklyn, I have not seen green and gold look so stylish ever.

I love that dress - and the clutch - and the harbour is a stunning backdrop.

I have terribly mixed feelings about those colors, though. Green and gold were my high school's colors, so I had a bunch of it in my wardrobe at one point, and I have fond memories associated with the combination.

On the other hand, they're also the Portland Timbers' colors, and thus, they inspire almost instinctive anger, especially if my soccer brain is in charge which, during playoff season, it totally is.

The dress is definitely green (with a blue undertone). That's why I bought it. Dark green is a HEWI for me. Very hard to find here.
And AG you could definitely wear it.
Peri and Chouette22, I am actually not that big on sports myself but it's hard to escape in Australia. We are a sports mad country. Plus there is a longstanding friendly rivalry between Australia and New Zealand that this game taps into. All good fun.
Jenn, it's funny that school colours are a good association for you. I recently bought a khaki utility skirt and then realised it is somewhat similar to my school uniform skirt. Instant poison eye for me!

Proud and tasteful! Go the Wallabies! We beat the Kiwis to win the cricket World Cup in March....hopefully it will be a repeat tonight. A tall order with the All Blacks.
FYI the green and gold was selected from the colours of Acacia pycnantha, commonly known as golden wattle, our national floral emblem. These national sports colours were proclaimed in 1984 by the then Governor- General, Sir Ninian Stephens under the advice of the then Prime Minister, Bob Hawke.
I don't think it is so much the colours that ruins our Olympic uniforms, it is more often uninteresting design. Look at the Jamaicans for example, same national colours, but far more hip clothing design and they always look fabulous. Just as you do today in your version of green and gold.

Thanks Shelly and Deb. And thanks for that information. I agree it is not so much the colours as the interpretation. I did see the boys training tonight in white shirts with just a green and gold "accent" (as fabbers might say) on their shoulders. And I thought that looked rather swish.

It's fun to get in the spirit of major events like the World Cup. I love the dress, and your incorporation of the gold is stylish and sophisticated. A deep green pair of jeans or trousers and a golden tan sweater might work for a cooler season with the Aussie colors. And you might be able to find a cool team tee with the white background and pair it with a blazer and white pants! FWIW, I have always find red/white/blue to look a bit childlike -- or like actually wearing a flag!
