WIW: Denim/Chambray #1

I decided to give myself a denim challenge, but the last dress is chambray. I think I will be passing it on because the puckers drive me nuts. As far as I can tell, the vest over the black dress and then over the white dress is the only repeat although a couple of jeans look similar but are quite different weights. After more than a month of denim with quite a bit more to go, I am taking a break because it is too hot (101F and no AC) so I will be wearing dots or stripes in the interim and will be hoping for cooler days since quite a few stripes are long sleeved and one polka dot is a pullover. If I include socks in the challenge, this should take awhile.

Omg you just became my style icon. Are those dresses petite? Where do you shop?? All these outfits look seriously fabulous. You look great in dresses, skirts & a wide variety of silhouettes! Pants look equally good!
That last dress puzzled me at 1st glance, but I’m on my tiny phone. When I enlarged it, I liked it. But it did take a moment to register that it is part of the dress’s design. I’d keep it but if it bugs you, it could be used for around the house on hot days.

@ophelia: I think the only Petite sized dress of the bunch is the plaid one from NAS quite a few years ago. I had the green one (#6 & 7) and music note sheath (#16) shortened. I am long waisted, so even regular sized clothing won’t necessarily hit me in an awkward place.

I almost exclusively shop at Nordstrom online due to their return policy and alteration benefit. Topshop and Madewell can work for me if the *mini* length is 36” in a dress or 20” in a skirt and the sleeves are short, 3/4 length, bracelet length, or can otherwise be shortened. I have had knit/sweater type sleeves shortened which is expensive and haven’t made me nearly as happy.

Wow! What a treat! The only problem is I am having a hard time keeping keeping track of my favorites. White is so good on you - you are actually making me see why people like it on me because our hair is similar in color. Love the necklace in #3. Love the silhouette in #5. Love lots of your fun looks but as mentioned, can't keep track !

2,3,5,12,31, 38 are my faves but every one of these is so fun! It’s such a treat to see this fab collection of denim items. Fab pairings, great proportions and so uniquely you. Are Crocs your house shoes or do you wear them out—just curious. You have a great collection of footwear! Love your style!! You are officially clog queen too!

The denim waistcoat/ vest is a great idea for adding a textural interest in a layer without (too much?) warmth - HK just had the hottest day in September *ever*, so I sympathise!

The last dress is cute (puckering & all) but if you're not comfortable in it that's going to affect how often you wear it. What about layering it underneath something else (like a high-waisted skirt) to temper the ruching? (*After* the heatwave, of course!)

Wow that is a lot of denim! And so much variety! Love it! I cannot pick a favorite but love the last dress and the green jacket with pom poms - so fun. And love all the clogs with them!

You most certainly pass the "it's a 10" when it comes to generating outfits that look great. I admire your sense of style; you have such a nice variety. The same cohesiveness I see when some people demonstrate "capsules" but more options. All your shoes are fun but #9 stands out to me.

That was so much fun to look through ! Thanks for posting these looks! What I love about your style is that it's not necessarily predictable and repetitive. There are common themes of course, but I bet your co-workers are all like "what will Donna wear today?" , lol. Like others mentioned, grey and white are certainly your colours, but I also like the pops of red. Your croc collection makes me smile , too.

WOW!!! Thanks for all the love. That was my first time wearing that all white dress in #38 and #39; I was worried that it might be too much white for me. I guess not these days as my hair gets grayer/whiter. Only thing is that I don’t have Angie’s gift of keeping white clean.

@Jaime: That collar necklace in#3 was a purchase I made in the late ‘70s when I lived in WDC. I keep stuff forever!

@Nikki: The stock photo for my dress in #35 showed it as a dress with nothing underneath. Umm, no.

@kellygirl: My lined zebra Crocs are always house shoes. My silver sparkly Crocs and my white Bae huge platform Crocs are mostly house shoes. The white ones fit about a half size too big so I worry about my safety/ankles when circumnavigating the outside world.

@Zaeobi: I will try your solution of wearing the puckered dress as a shirt when it gets cooler than 90F in my unairconditioned house. That dress is certainly short enough! Or I may just hack it shorter.

@LJP: It seems the women at my church check out what I wear each week; it’s a bit embarrassing and means I need to stay on top of my game. I think people in my denomination probably have a reputation for being particularly poorly dressed—to the left of casual shall we say. Sartorial splendor NOT! But generally everyone is bathed and their clothes are clean which is all I ask.

I live in a hot humid climate & agree w/ you about being bathed; I can see where the “cleanliness is next to Godliness” came from, ha.
I see everyone else shares my reaction to your pics! And LOL @ Lynn re “Fainted!” That’s definitely my reaction too!
Interesting about Nordstroms being your go-to, & thanks for reminding me that they do alterations. I tend to avoid them because I’m really annoyed at their lack of petite sizes. I do splurge on some good haircare when needed, & occasionally makeup.
I’ve had bad luck w/ alterations in my area. I tried 3 different places & didn’t think any of them did a great job—the hem ($18.00!) on one pair of pants fell out after 6 months. After that I just stopped buying anything that’s not petite. I think I have the opposite situation than you-I think my waist is short, if that is what a “high” waist is called. My shoulders are narrow which creates all sorts of warped effects w/ regular sized tops, & sleeves are always way too long. You appear to have a “strong” shoulder line which I think makes blazers, jackets & tops look great on you.
I’m also seriously low budget & get most of my clothes from ebay. I can still use the proportions & color combos in your pics as inspiration though!
