WIW: Blush and Black, casual version.

I was having breakfast when I read this post and decided I could do it today, a sunny winters day.

I was planning to experiment with different footwear (tan/gold/black) and bags (tan/stone) but realised I have put a hole in the front of the sweater. Argh. It was purchased last year and has been well worn, however, I thought it still had a lot of wear in it. The hole is in the front chest area so very obvious, so the sweater will either be worn with a scarf or for lounge wear only.

I am not a big pastel fan (overdosed in the 1980s) and only own this sweater and a summer printed top in blush. I tend to wear them both mostly with denim, and either black or tan footwear, belts, bags with a touch of metallic. I definitely prefer light footwear with the black pants to balance out my hair.

I chose my backpack as it had black and white in it and I have a casual day planned, working from home and attending a maths competition with my 11 year old.

Should I be wearing more pastels and if so, which ones? I consider the following pastels and would wear a couple of these- baby pink, baby blue, lemon, mint, mauve, aqua, blush, peach.

YES. Wear more blush, Sally. It brings out the rose in your cheeks and the white in your teeth.

Ooh! What a good wintery take. The white sneaks make the look for me. The blush looks good on you! I don't know about the other pastels you've mentioned; honestly I think there's probably a version of ALL of them that you could wear, the trick is to find them. Too bad about the hole in the sweater.

Thanks Angie, I have enjoyed the blush tops so will look for other options (a full skirt appeals to me to wear with simple tops and heels).

Thanks Aida - I have a wee bit of a bias against baby blue, lemon, and mauve, and a true baby pink on me. Peach and Aqua are flattering on me but I struggle to work out how to wear them (or find them in pieces I like). I have thought about mint but not gone there yet.

I really love this on you. The white sneakers make it sporty luxe trend fab! I think you look really pretty in the blush but I understand your hesitation about pastels -- I share it on the whole, although I do have a few blush pieces as well as some lighter blues.

I struggle with pastels too. The one I rather like at the moment is a dark blush, more of a dusty pink. I am hoping this makes an appearance in the stores this spring because I am desperate for some light neutrals.
But to the outfit! I think blush suits you as this looks really good. Sneakers are a good choice. It's a shame about the hole but a scarf could actually be nice for adding another colour to the outfit.
And I can definitely see Aqua on you. You could pair it with dark blue or aubergine/purple. Or even dark green. Ya knew I'd mention green, didn't you The problem is finding these colours and colour combinations here, as you know.

This is lovely on you, Sally. The light shoes and your dark glasses balance out the colours beautifully. What a shame about the sweater, though.
I think you should definitely try blue, pink and mauve with your black.

This is a lovely combination on you! I wonder if there will be other pastels to try in our summer season? I have to admit to being a bit confused by all the names for different colours, and of course they appear different on the screen as well. I am rather reliant on the swatch of colours given to me when I had my colours "done" , to help me decide what might or might not be good on me.
I hope you find some mint or aqua. There are some basic cardis in the Ezibuy catalogue, so maybe the colour will turn up elsewhere, too.

Thank you Suz, while I suit warmer colours and yourself cool, I think we probably suit similar intensity of colourings and contrast. You look great in your blush and pale blues although I think you mentioned a change in preference with your new hair.

Thanks Tanya - I know - holes are so annoying especially in the front middle chest area!!

Cocolion - I am enjoying shorter hair in the most part, my hair sits better and I feel it suits my personality better.

Thanks Brooklyn - pastels are not so common here - especially in styles I like. Aqua is a good colour on me, I am intrigued now about wearing it with tonal darker blues or greens - it could be so good or so bad?

Summer - I will try blue again. Mauve does suit me but I mostly resist purple. Perhaps time to try again, if only in store.

Helen - yes the terms are confusing. I traditionally think of pastels as the lightest version of colours (lots of white added), and not being too murky. I think the warmer versions I could wear fairly easily (peach, aqua, blush) but I look a little grim in icy pastels.

Harmonica - if I can find some I will try some different ones on. I prefer bolder looks which is one reason I have avoided pastels but if I can get boldness somewhere else in the outfit it could work (ie full skirt, contrast, edgy shoes).
