I went with all black, and I went for combat boots instead of heels for comfort and the overall vibe. And it's perfect. I think I will wear this outfit with some variation on the regular. I feel so at home and comfortable and unfussy, and that's exactly what I aim for.

Off topic but sort of related to the outfit, I think the way my recent purchases worked out was a happy accident. Everything I got ended up being black and white, plus the olive pants. Lots of neutrals. And they feel SO RIGHT. I don't want to stop wearing color altogether, but I'm really enjoying the idea of wearing primarily neutrals, in tonal looks like this one and in high contrast ones like the outfit I posted with my other tunic and saddle shoes. Maybe with an occasional pop of red or blue (my two favorite colors to wear). Thoughts? Ideas on how to work toward that? General inspiration?

You look wonderful. I like blue with black but not red unless some white or another color is added too. Olive, red and black could BR a great combination.

great outfit and great boots. I think all in black suits you. I used to wear mainly black with the odd cobalt blue or purple and still really like that edgy style. I think the red lipstick complements the outfit.

I like wearing black and olive together, a combo that I admired on Transcona Shannon here on the forum some time back. In fact you might find inspiration in some of her old posts (she isn't on the forum anymore--she told us she was going to depart for a while), as she often wore a palette similar to what you are aiming for.

Peri, accessories are great for that. I'm also thinking a colorful piece here and there--like my cobalt and red sweaters. I'll see what I can find in terms of red and blue accessories.

Firecracker, I LOVE "polished edge." I think I'll add that to my style descriptors! I love olive and black, too. That's mostly how I've been styling my new olive pants so far. I'll try looking up the person you suggested, too.

Lucy, I agree. I like black best when it has texture or interest. I think the zipper on the jacket and its asymmetrical silhouette is what achieves it in this particular outfit? I love black so much, I do my best not to let it look flat and boring.

This looks great! Not to make this all about me, but your post reminded me that I was going to take the idea of wearing short boots with skinny jeans from this ensemble post and then I completely forgot and wore tall riding boots this morning. I guess I really am in a rut.

Black and red are a natural with your coloring! Do you have a red handbag to match your lipstick? I think that would give you just the right pop of color/texture/shine here. Or perhaps a red scarf.
