WIW : A White Dress! - YouLookFab Forum

This is a very loose interpretation of Angie's Black, White and Light Blue ensemble:) I didn't think of it until after I had worn it.

It's Good Friday here and we have been to church where my DH did a wonderful job putting together a very heartfelt and meaningful service. Home now preparing lunch for the three of us.

I bought this dress about a month ago. It's a bit of a departure for me but I really felt it still fit my style persona. The dress/tunic is a simple, tencel sleeveless shirt dress with a slight A Line skirt. I had actually had something like this on my wish list for some time and had passed up a few that were close but not quite right. This one is by Mesop. (Mesop Free Ride Dress availble in Chambray also - see #5 - I think it sold out in white) Mesop is another Australian label (a little similar in aesthetic to Metalicus) that I love, but this is the first thing I have bought from them.

I knew I wanted to wear it with black and have been scanning blogs and Pinterest for ideas on how to wear a white dress with black:) Then a couple of weeks ago I bought this black sweater and viola, i was pretty sure they would work together. So gave it a whirl this morning. Added my otk boots and I know you are wondering were the blue is right?? My necklace is silver with blue see #4.

I would love to know if you think this works. I did try it with shorter boots but I really like the black on the legs coming all the way to the dress. This felt fantastic to wear and I do envisage repeating this.

Great to see the expanse of white, Debs. I love that part.

I think the dress might be a little thin to wear in this way - which is emphasized by the heavy jumper and your skin peaking through the white fabric. Might be fine in person though. Some things just don't photograph all that accurately. But you mentioned that you felt great in the combination, which is important.

Are you wearing black shorts under the dress? Have you tried the combination with leggings or skinnies?

Thanks Angie! I am wearing a black slip dress under the white dress but I can see now that it's not long enough. I hadn't noticed. The fabric is quite weighty and substantial so I'm think it can work this way but I need either a longer slip or black tights perhaps to fully "block out" the white? In the close up you can see the fabric isn't flimsy so I think in part it may have been the flash on the camera?

I will definitely be trying with leggings and ankle boots..thank you x

Well, I love this - it's an exaggerated version of my sweater from yesterday!

I really like the sweater with the white dress! It reminds me of a dress version of the sweater that Una recently posted about.

How would this look with leggings and your new black pumps? There's something about the OTK boots that makes it a touch rugged and I think of your style as more refined and sophisticated.

Una, I had the idea of pairing the dress and sweater for a little while (waiting for the cooler weather) and then I saw your post yesterday and that reignited the idea. I love your sweater by the way.

I love this outfit, and I love how the sweater and the boots can take what is potentially a spring/summer dress into fall. The only thing I would change would be to pair it with black tights, as the skin showing is a bit jarring with tall boots, IMO.

I think its great. And it really reminded me of Una's sweater.

I love the way the collar of the dress peeks out over the V neck, and the zips on the jumper add a nice dash of interest.

Wonderful piece for your wardrobe, Deb! I think the proportions work well here. What would it look like under a black jacket or dramatic open cardi? Not in place of what you have here, but as an additional outfit option.

I know well how much work goes into the music for a Good Friday service. Easter may seem like a bigger deal, but spiritually and musically, the two services are intricately linked!

Oh, I read but didn't realised from the picties there are some fancy OTK boots there. It looked very much like you were earing black skinnies and short boots, to me:-). But I like it anyway! Wow, both new pieces are TDF, and they are making a great job together! Love aditions of whites it is looking as edgy as the black when in your wardrobe! Happy Easter!:-)
