WIW 8/3 : Desigual Dresses - ETA with a White shoes and Denim jacket

Hi All,

I don’t have a holding zone in my closet, but my daughter does. She passed on me two dresses because she can’t wear them anymore. I'm not a fan of DESIGUAL , but my daughter is and she has skirts, dresses, coats and bags. I liked these two dresses. They are sleeveless, but the material is a little thicker, so they are not for hot days, but for something fresher, which means that a topper is needed. My first choice is ardigans, and certainly later a blazer or jacket.

1.Black dress, turquoise shoe, black cardy and white bag (#1-2)

2.Gray dress, grey patent pumps, pearl gray cardigan and coral bag (#3-4).

What do you think, please your honest opinion?

BONUS Desigula Skirt – This skirt was passed on me by my daughter two years ago and then I obeyed Joy to still hold her and think about what to do with her, something was bothering me. I realized that it was the length and I put on the lace and now it is the most wearable skirt of this warm summer. Pictures (#5 before and # 6 - 7 now).

ETA- black dress with the white loafers and pearls #8, and gray dress with the white denim jacket and silver shoes #9.

Fun brand with distinctive looks - new for me. I like grey dress a bit more than the first one ( the contrast is fairly strong ) but they both looks wonderful with your styling ( perfect toppers! ).
The skirt is amazing on you - adding lace did improve the proportions and sweeten a bit the whole look. You have an eye for a great combinations!

Love the 2nd dress in the gray/pink! And the skirt is super cute. The top of the first dress seems "off." I agree with slim cat that it might be the contrast, between the dark but more delicate lace print on the bottom and the bright wide bands of color on the top. The black topper helps to tone it down. Do you have any toppers that have a bit of white detail, to perhaps try to match the skirt part of that dress more closely?

Omg lol number 3 though, that's crazy! They all look like fun clothes that a lot of girls would like. I have to say that I'm not too familiar with the whole desigual thing or the history of it to be honest.

I like a lot of Desigual designs, though many have too much going on for my style, which I'm thinking is what you are getting at, too. These dresses represent the more restrained Desigual to my eye, and I really like both of them on you. It's too bad they are not better for hot weather, because they would be cute with sandals, too.

I especially like the first one, as it has this neat, classic appearance that suits you so well, and yet it has that twist of part of the print being writing. You could wear pearls with it and black patent or white shoes, too, if you wanted to play up the classic lines of it.

The second dress is also beautiful on you; that print is such a pretty design. I like the color of the cardigan you've paired with it. I would prefer a shorter one, or even a jean-jacket kind of topper, so you're not hiding so much of the pattern on the dress. The coral bag is perfect with it.

I love your addition to the skirt. I think the visual heft of the black hemline kind of reins in the pattern to make it more in your style zone. It looks fantastic with the tops and footwear you've chosen. Would those Mary Jane shoes go with the gray and coral dress?

KATHIE, I don't have any white and black. I tried with white, but not to good. Maybe I would find something better.
YKK, Desigual is Spanish brand, very specific and popular in Europe. Some people like it but not easy for styling.

I agree the shorter topper would be better, I tried the white jeans jacket but it doesn't work, maybe I would find something perfect. I think that the dresses are worth keeping. Yes, Mary Jane shoes go with gray dress.

Thank you ANGIE for always great suggestions. I would try with the white loafers. Yes, I have a white denim jacket but, when I tried with both dress something bother me, I would try that again, maybe with different shoes. I like the dresses, new style for me but I think would find the best solution about topper.

Perfect additions in #8 with the pearls and white shoes that help bring out the white buttons on the cardi and tie the whole look together.

Very cool dresses and skirt! My favorite is the skirt although I am partial to skirts so I may be biased. The white shoes are splendid with the pieces. Fun additions to your wardrobe What do the words on the black dress say?

NIKKI, absolutely fun additions, but maybe it's good for little changing.
The words on the black dress are "La vida es chula - life is cool" . I'm not sure for the translation.

They are to contrasty for my tastes, but you make them look good.
My fav's are when you compliment them with a cardi, jacket or pop over which to someone who loves them as is will not agree.
Your styling them seems consistent with what you share on YLF. Elegant and effortless that looks well done.

Desigual is a brand that interests me. But usually their patterns are not quite right for my taste.

That’s how I feel about the dress in no 1. There seems to be a disconnect between the top and bottom, so it reads more like a top and skirt than a dress. I’d like to either draw the white colour of the bottom upwards (with a white jacket or white long necklace). Or the blue downwards. A long blue cardigan (similar to style with the second dress) would be ideal. I can see you are wearing blue shoes (maybe thinking the same thing?) but I don’t think it’s quite there yet. Alternatively, maybe throw in a completely different colour, like red, for a more random colour block effect.

I like the second dress much more. And you have styled it perfectly.

Great solution on the skirt too.

BROOKLYN, yes, Desigual is very interesting and specific with pattern. People love it or not, but not in the middle. I agree that the black dress maybe look like top and skirt and probably that is reason to be difficult for styling. You gave so many lovely ideas and could try with red shoes for example, or light blue cardigan. I will see the results. Thank you kindly.

Mirjana, I love how you have styled these items and the skirt looks so much better with your additional lace border. Hand-me-downs can be tricky, it is fun to see how you have added elegance to these items. A favourite boutique stocks Desigual, but I have yet to find a pattern that works for me, they are often a bit too hectic for my personal style.

BIJOU, you are absolutely right , it can be tricky and it is, but I did my best at the moment with items in my closet. I really like the dresses. I understand you , the pattern is really very original and completely different and you have to get used to it. I agree a bit to hectic to someone. I tried to calm it down a bit with neutral.
