WIW 3/21: Inspired by Pinterest in baby blue and tan

I have been wanting to participate in the pastels trend, and a friend passed along this jacket to me this week so I thought I'd give it a whirl. This isn't really a Pinterest copy, but I was inspired by the colors.

Pastel blue jacket: Tahari, hand-me-down
Navy tee: Royalton
Tan pencil skirt: Halogen
Cognac pumps: Nine West
Cobalt satchel: B Makowsky

I feel like I'm not quite sure if this is "so 2014" or if it's just a hot mess with an out-of-style jacket. Your thoughts?

Thank you, ladies! I am feeling quite a bit better about this outfit since I got on the elevator to go to work and a young twentysomething lady exclaimed "Oh! I love your outfit! I love that color combination!"

IS that jacket out of style?? Either way, I'm really loving the lapel/neckline. Is it cut out or does it have navy lapels? The color combo is great! I might forgo the jewelry to keep the focus on the jacket (but that is my minimalist bias speaking, it looks very good on you).

Whew! I have Angie's stamp of approval! I think the fit is good, Angie, so I will put this (new-to-me) jacket into rotation! Yay! for hand-me-downs!

Rabbit, it's got navy lapels and cuffs. I debated about the necklace but I finally went with it because (a) I wanted to get some of the warm tones of the skirt and shoes into the top half of the outfit, and (b) the Pinterest original is wearing a fairly major necklace and I wanted to be a big ol' copycat. I did adjust the length a little so it hangs a bit lower on my neck, though, and I think that was a bit of an improvement.

OMG, MaryK. You are dressed to kill. This outfit is so serious, it warrants a stream of ghetto, which would scald everybody's innocent ears. But you can imagine. And I can jump around and go, "Turn up, MaryK! Turn up!" Lol.

Ha, I love Rachylou's answer (and I teach in the 'hood, so I really know what all of that means - when I taught at the HS my ears were scalded daily while out in the hallways, lol).

MaryK, I love this outfit! The color combo is super fab. I wish I had friends that would give me gorgeous hand-me-down jackets!

In my opinion, no problem at all. Actually quite 2014. The pastel jacket is really nice and you have combined it beautifully. I would say: big thank you to the person who gave it. (Don't you love these hand-me-down presents?)

I like the outfit (proportions, fit) and the color combination a lot, but I'd try to replace the tee with one in lighter color (more in the spirit of the inspirational pic). The dark tee changes the original idea and makes the outfit look a bit harsher, IMO.
