WIW 1/28: The Eighties Called...

...and they want their cobalt blazer back! But I'm not giving it up! I found this on the clearance rack at the Rack over the weekend and I had to take it home because it reminded me of jackets I wore back in the day! I know the shoulders, in particular, won't be everybody's cuppa, but it tickles me.

Cobalt blazer: Elly J
Black tee: District
Windowpane check pants: Banana Republic
Cobalt/gold/white pumps: Seychelles
Quilted black clutch: Topshop
Studded belt: Streets Ahead

And, of course, because it's me this is kind of an upside-down copy of an outfit I found on Pinterest.

What do you think? Have I brought this look into the new millennium or should I send it back to the 80s?

I think your jacket shape is fresher than the shrunken on in the pin. Your styling of the blazer is also decidedly modern and oh-so-flaterring on you.

I hope I don't have to do the walk of shame for saying this, but squared shoulder pads have their place. They can balance and add structure to drapey long jackets like yours! I've been pinning retro fashions, and watched "Baby Boom" again last week. While my eye rejects extremes, some of these jackets with shoulder "boosting" looked fresh to me and I wanted to wear them again.

And just between you and me, I'm kinda open to pleated pants, if they have a good drape. Shhhhhhh........

Beth Ann, back in the day I had a Liz Claiborne jacket that was about this same color and shape and it had the BIGGEST shoulder pads EVAH. I loved that jacket like Gandhi loved peace. I don't know about pleated pants, though.

Yay for the '80's and all the big shouldered gals -- I am still a sucker for the look. You look lovely in your modern update of the "strong shouldered" jacket. Cobalt blue is a great color on you… but, I am now thinking, what color is not "great on you"??? The windowpane checked pants are so cute. Stellar outfit!

those shoulder pads are way to small to be 80"s.

As I believe you've pointed out in the past, MK, that was the decade of the IT for sure. This jacket looks amazing on you.

That jacket is TDF! The shoulder pads look perfect on you. I remember them from the 80's too. Perfection.

I am so jealous that you west coasters can wear light clothes. We are dying over here on the east coast!!

had to sign back in to see the thirtysomething suit....loved that show. and yup, i think i wore that suit as well! and i had another one that i wore with a pinstriped shirt and a pink bow tie!
