WIW - trendy dresser?

Wide leg jeans edition. I don't exactly see myself as a trendy dresser, more of a dedicated thrifter whose puzzle solving mind is delighted to find current trends in second hand clothing. So inspired by Angie's jeans trends post I pulled out these slightly too big, thrifted wide leg jeans yesterday and grabbed a quick shot when I was dropping off clothes for consignment.

Hmm, what do you think? They had stretched and slid down a bit and are actually a bit more cropped. Perhaps I should belt? Theoretically I should tuck, but that is pretty risky for me. You might notice that I am playing with the chain necklace trend also. And the animal print trend. Perhaps I am a trendy dresser? Do you consider yourself a trendy dresser? Thoughts and styling tips -and trendy dresser thoughts - all appreciated.

I would belt if the sliding is bothering you. If I don't tuck my tops, I am sometimes bothered by the extra volume belting adds. But it may not bother you.

I don't consider myself a trendy dresser. I tend to like and buy classic pieces. I am much more likely to notice and pick up trendy colors than trendy sillouette and fabric. All in tops. I do not like shopping for pants I stick with what I have until they fall apart.

Earrings are the only thing I like to venture into trendy stuff.

I always like your outfits , as Joy said whatever you call it. I like this outfit as it is but you can try belt. I'm not trendy dresser, maybe modern classic.

I like them without a belt but I’d be careful about the sliding down thing. It’s such an effortless look. Love it.

But I’d like too with a belt.

Intentionally trendy I find a little bit daunting. I don’t really move in those types of circles but I do very occasionally yearn a job in shoreditch where jeans are the uniform!

Have you tried them belted?It could give them another look but they look intentionally loose as they are.
I don’t dress to be trendy but I am a sucker for new silhouettes if I think that they will suit me so I guess I would call it staying current rather than deliberately being trendy.

I really like the jeans and the entire outfit. I love your style, you always look very modern and playful. Your outfits are chic and fun. I think you are a trendy dresser in the best way - you do the trends your unique way.
I am not a trendy dresser, I love classic and timeless (if there is such a thing) and usually with a dose of retro nostalgia. I love following new trend reports though and looking at new trendy outfits on blogs and influencers. I play with accessories or colours sometimes to inject some trendiness. The best fun is to use old accessories that are trending again, like vintage 80's costume jewelry or vintage handbags from the 50's and the 60's.

Thank you for your kind words and perspectives. I am realizing lately that I do love to twist the trends, and this is probably not the norm.
Becky what sort of trendy earrings are you wearing? Following color trends is still trendy I think!

Jane - I do not exactly move in trendy circles either - I am trendy for my own (and YLF's) amusement. But working in Shoreditch sounds fun!
Cardiff girl - It is hard to draw the line between trendy and current isn't it? Becky likes color trends, you like silhouette trends, I like trends I can find in the thrift store !

I just think you have a distinctive style, trendy or not. You know what works on you and it’s amazing how you thrift the right pieces.

I can’t seem to keep up with what’s trendy or not anymore, since it seems everything goes if it’s intentional.

I would like to be a clasdic dresser, but tbh I'm a sucker for 'refreshing' my wardrobe with trendy pieces. I'm especially sensitive to silhouettes going in and out of style (eg high waist or wide leg), though I don't blindly adopt and turn over my entire wardrobe each season of course. I'm for example very weary of low waists right now even though they're so much morecomfortable!

You always look a bit ahead of trends to me. Dressing in a very fashion forward style with designer sensibility. The fact that many of your items are thrifted, makes this even more extraordinary and proves what a good eye you have for fashion.

I can get overwhelmed by too much choice. I tend to stick to tried and true shops and designers. I have a few small boutiques that I buy from where the owners know me and recommend items they think will work for me. I enjoy adding some trendy items into my wardrobe just to freshen things up.

I really like the whole outfit. Cross body bag is a good balance. I think Angie's suggestion to hack a few inches is great, esp if you don't want to belt up. But a wide belt and a semituck would be awesome too! Like the necklaces!

The outfit looks great! Very you. The jeans look relaxed but but not too big. If sliding is bothersome it would be okay with a belt too.

I always deny being trendy, but I think subconsciously the trends gets into
my head. I like to thrift too. A while back I bought a chain link bracelet like the one on Angie’s post today, except it’s really from the 80s. So I guess for today I’m trendy, haha. Team thrift!

Agree with everyone else that the jeans look terrific! I only wish I could wear jeans with such ease and elan (love that word ) . I am not a trendy dresser , but certainly know what's going on in that department - I kind of have to. I'd rather go with current and interesting.

Shevia, you asked what sort of trendy earring I am wearing. Here is a picture of all the earrings I purchased in the last 2 years or so, except for pearls. Some of them are definitely crazy-looking but I love them!

I think you look amazing as usual and it’s fun to have your thrifting hobby ( is it a hobby?) and also to make some money from it ( I realise I am unsure about your actual job-?-do you have one?) Sorry to be so terribly clueless.
I don’t think I’m particularly trendy? I think maybe trends filter into my consciousness over time and I don’t realise, or else something becomes trendy again that I’ve always liked, and I buy it because it’s available again.
Like my favourite yellow cut-out brogues from 1984 that I wore for years and let go very reluctantly- next saw that colour yellow in a shoe in 2013 and bought immediately because they reminded me of the first ones. And olive seems to be trendy but I am buying lots because I bought some olive pants I loved in 2013- which have since died- and wanted to keep that vibe going.
Sometimes it’s a bit disappointing to want to DYOT because you can’t necessarily find the vision that’s in your head? That happens to me sometimes especially with dressing up outfits. Although I will look quite obsessively for things once I have an idea in my head.

I love this effortless style - very Jaime and current - and I think trendy.

I don’t know if I am trendy - I am when it suits me. At the moment I like the trends or there are enough that work so it is easy. But in the years of either platforms or ballet flats and tunics or skinny jeans I found it hard.

Jenni NZ - Thrifting is not my main job (yet!). I write and edit in the development (fundraising) area of the non-profit world, but have flexible hours and also self-fund my style habit by upselling. Have you tried ebay or other second hand markets for your out of trend pieces?

Trendy? I don’t know/care—you look cute! I could go check off boxes on the trend report, but why?

I dress in what I like. Sometimes I like something just before it becomes a trend, like the berry colors I was all into last winter, and the menswear prints & shoes I wanted but couldn’t afford. I don’t think that means I’m a fashion genius by any stretch. I think it means I’m a piece of flotsam (or am I jetsam?) floating along, not giving much resistance, as long as nothing is too far out there. So then I sometimes wind up being where trends are.

It’s really not a big deal and I can’t see being someone who chases trends or who puts serious energy into it (i think you’re being a little whimsical in your question here, yes?) That just sounds hard and like a recipe for never being satisfied or pleased with what i have. I like the way Angie rides the trends, but stays true to herself, doesn’t seem to think she has to get the absolute latest in everything
