WIW - to the grocery store

This is another attempt at a contrast (navy & cream) + soft colour accent (blush, and light blue in the scarf) outfit, and I'll have to look for other ways to create it from my closet. It does look a touch dull in the photo ... hmm a stronger lippie was needed maybe? Or maybe the scarf and jacket blended too much (not enough contrast?)

The scarf doubled as a mask.

Can I just say that trying to shop for a full week's worth of food when there's a teenaged boy in the house is damn near impossible! I needed to sit down for tea and chocolate just to recover from the attempt

Beautiful colors and just enough contrast to make a sublime portrait. Am I overdoing it? No. You could try a stronger lip color just for fun, and that might work well too, but for a different take on it.

Nothing dull about this at all!! And a strong lippie would get all over that lovely scarf! I am anxious to get my leather jackets out - but our rainy weather has other plans

If you think the outfit is incomplete, maybe you're not completely seeing the contribution your own physicality adds? Your hair, which appears to have some red and your creamy complexion?

I would have thought such a strong print so close to your face would distract from your features but just the reverse is true, maybe because of the very few colors?

Ah - thank you guys so much! You are always so kind and constructive, and I really, really appreciate it!

It's interesting because the relative higher contrast (mind you, it's lessening with every year!) of my hair and skin, and the soft tones of my hair colour and eye colour, seem a little at odds. It seems I do have good success either with medium colours (like the red that I've gotten favourable reviews with), or with slightly softened high contrast. So I'll have to keep this in mind when I choose items to wear! I find it hard to add contrast sometimes since I don't layer a lot in extreme temperatures ... but in spring and fall, it's far easier.

Phoebe, that's a great point; I think that ties into above to - it's a bold print but a soft palette - net medium effect. Maybe I'm Even Steven! (who remembers the Seinfeld episode?!?)

Nemosmom, we've got rain here too but this jacket is fake leather, so it works in the rain!

Roxanna - good old Dynamite, and I'd say it's four years old now, but I do think they have something similar each fall. I think it was $40 and I've definitely gotten lots of wear out of it. It doesn't look 'pleather-ish' irl. That store has some gems.

Suntiger, yes, I always thought I was a winter too, but a few colour analysts have said I am some sort of summer, probably a soft summer. My hair has always had a touch of a reddish cast in the sun, but as I've aged and had to colour it more, that's been exacerbated by dye ... I feel much better though when the red is out; I've tried adding warmth before and it does not look good on me. It's super-faded right now due to the lack of hair styling services *sob*

Love this as is, Helena! That said, whenever I feel like I need a little something I bump up my lip colour.

Ya, I miss seeing my son....he's 28 and we're distancing....but he eats us out of house and home when he's here.

Are those your Frye runners? I'm looking for white runners and saw them at The Bay today. Wondering if they're comfortable and good for long walks. Are they worth the price? Trying to buy shoes without trying them on kind of sucks.

Marilyn, that's true ... I struggle to accept it though hahaha ... I'll find one exception and be like, well there you go, that can't be right .... I'm worse than my kids actally. So stubborn *rolls eyes at self*

Remind me did you have a colour analysis done? Or did you work it out for yourself ...?

They are Nike sneaks actually; I think I put Frye ones on finds because they were the closest match I could find. They are not super comfy tbh ... They're fine for running errands etc but not more comfy than ballet flats would be. What about something like as Angie's eccos? Those seem amazingly comfy ...

Beautiful! Scarf will mess up lipstick so no need. I like the jeans and sneaker combination on you a lot too. As for hungry teens: yes, and not just the boys.

It's a lovely outfit - maybe just a little stronger lippie would be better. I do find blush a bit hard to wear myself near the face.

Sympathies of the shopping. I have three high school age kids ( though girls) and one thing I've been struggling with is how much milk they drink! Specially when all at home. I think I bought 17-18 litres last week

Thanks, Helena. Yes, I am 100% considering a pair of the Ecco 7's in white. I trust Angie's rave reviews.

I did have my colours done way back in the early 80's. I was told I was a summer.....they didn't have all the sub-categories back then. I still have the colour swatch packet they gave me and the colours in it still include my best ones. It includes a true blue based red which we know you rock. The Sephora girls say I have a bit of warmth in my skin tone and I think they're right. That probably explains why I sometimes veer off into colours that aren't in my palette. From reading online I've discovered that soft summer can sometimes flow into soft autumn. You might be finding the same thing.

Yes, I think that makes a lot of sense Marilyn! My only issue with soft summer for me is that gray is not my best, and some of the really light and muted colours are quite blah - but I'm realizing this may be matter of contrast more than colour. Sal recently mentioned Jen Thoden's system which doesn't have seasons, but it just breaks down the characteristics ... in hers I am a cool/soft/deep, which seems to make a lot of sense too.

Helena....Yes, I find that mid tones are best on me. Nothing too light or too bright. The light colours wash me out and brights are harsh. In terms of gray, charcoal is the best on me. I'll have to check out the Jen Thoden system.

Love! Maybe a little more blush if you feel washed out.

Also: Teen boy needs to come to carry all his food. Lol, I had this great neighbour who put a backpack on her two year old and had him carry a couple of diapers. Lol.
