WIW - could it have benefited from more bookending?

So this screen shot was my inspiration for yesterday's outfit: an ivory silk blouse with ruffled cuffs and standup collar, navy v neck sweater, too-big black pants with some rhinestone stars, and glitter sneakers.

I liked the outfit when I had it on all day, did zoom calls and walk in it, but when I took a photo in the afternoon, I thought it seemed a little blah.

Even though the soles of the sneakers have some white, I think I should have followed the inspiration more closely, untucked the blouse and worn white sneaks. What do you think?

The white soles pick up the white of the shirt, so there is that fab bit of repetition that allows the eye to rest and appreciate cohesion. White sneakers are a fab option too.

Yes to trying the un-tucked white shirt next time.

I've seen you bookend your hair beautifully with animal print footwear, UmmLila. That's another way to go here.

I am of the view bookending dark pants with white will make you look shorter, so I am a no on the white shoe or the white sole. I would vote for a dark shoe with a bit of romantic style to echo the blouse, like a pair of those great embroidered velvet or suede flats or another romantic touch like the Chloe scalloped edges.

I like the look - very nice on you! Your sneakers are great and work really well with outfit. I'm into print mixing and imagining the printed belt as well to add more light/white color ( white/grey snake print to echo your shoes?.. ).

I liked this post too ( The Flair Index? ) . I think I'd prefer the blouse/sweater less tucked and "buttoned up" as per the inspo pic......or a change of footwear , as you already mentioned.

Cool and subdued! I like your version and the inspo. Maybe try untucking for some slouchy goodness? I think your sneakers work well here but white would be great too.

I like both versions too, but can see it working untucked as others have mentioned. I think this is the kind of simple formula that can be nudged more glam or more relaxed, depending on mood and day.

I like both versions! To my eye, the white soles draw attention and do the job of providing cohesion. But it might be more laid-back with untucking and all white shoes.

I think the untucked white shirt provides a break for the eye between the very dark navy and the black--without it, they sort of look like they are both black (at least on my monitor).

I think untucking ads more lightness and maybe more romantic flowy element.
I like Angie’s idea of bookending with a more medium tone than white shoes. It doesn’t follow the formula exactly but is less choppy. Another idea is a 2- tone shoe or reverse color top/ soles ( not to go buy that, but something you might have.

I like your outfit a lot but it has a different vibe than the inspo pic, PP's trousers are much more slouchy and her blouse is untucked compared to tucked and belted.
