WIW - bright red "BFs", burgundy and plaid

Well, they used to be my skinny jeans. Now they fit like BFs and I have to think of them like that or the resulting outfits just don't make the cut. I'm really not a big fan of colored jeans, I've never been. I didn't even buy these myself. Well anyway, I'm wearing them right now because they fit, more or less. I'll try to go pants shopping tomorrow after work, keep your fingers crossed!

Today was my first bad hair day and the beanie didn't make it better, but I decided to post these anyway. I'm wearing the burgundy turtleneck again, plus the plaid scarf from Scotland. In the outerwear pic you can see my peacoat, my new beanie and my cashmere wristwarmers. I've also been wearing my new smartwool socks and I love them!

I think this looks great on you Astrid. I also wouldn't call that a bad hair day (but maybe I'm still in honeymoon mode about your hair ) but you know what it looks like up close and personal! The jeans make great BF's, and I love the way the scarf ties it all together.

PS... also a big Smartwool sock fan! (Although Icebreaker wear better)

I love how the red in the jeans and the red in the plaid scarf work together. I wish you liked those pants as much as I do, because they are so neutral with your other pieces! But I know how it is to simply not feel right in clothing, even if other people like you in it.

Do you have a spray bottle of water for your hair? Sometimes re-wetting a section can make it behave better if it dried in a less-than-wonderful way. When I didn't straighten my waves, and I had a layered, shorter hair cut that I just dried and let it do what it wanted to do, I sometimes would do this and then apply a round brush and a hair dryer to a willful hunk of hair that was making me unhappy.

Thanks Elizabeth! Yes, I think I have to be more forgiving with this cut, I guess. It's out of my hands, at least to a certain degree. I haven't tried Icebreaker socks yet, but that's goo to know.

Thanks Kiki! Well, I think these are going to get purged as soon as I have a few decent options I can wear instead. They don't look bad I think, they're just not my thing. And no, no spray bottle. But I'll have to try that.

Love the outerwear shot: you look so bundled! And I think you've styled those jeans excellently in #1. I wouldn't have guessed you don't care for coloured trousers.

I found mousse fairly helpful in cutting down on bad hair days when I had a pixie. I would add it to my hair when I was just out of the shower, let it air dry, then rumple it all up & the mousse made it stay better. Don't know if that will work for you or not!

The "BFs" look good and I really like that color scheme on you. However, I know what you mean about not feeling colored jeans. I've never been much of a fan of them for myself either. Crazy patterned jeans, yes, but solid colored ones, no.

Thanks Eva. I'm glad the look works. It actually isn't that cold yet, but it was kind of drizzly - that kind of wet cold that just makes you feel miserable. And I really have to go shopping for some hair product!

Thanks Diana! I don't think I ever have had patterned jeans, besides in my early teens. But I think that might be something I'd like better than color, when I want more interest on the bottom half.

Astrid, I love the outfit and the hair (bad day? no way) makes it look so funky.

I hear you about the coloured jeans, for some reason I don't feel them either, but these look great on you as they are, especially with that amazing scarf. Do you plan to keep them, or are they here only as gap fillers?

The outerwear looks fab too.

Aw, thanks Ornella! I've had them for a while and they are in a good condition, so I'm probably going to keep them for the time being. There will be enough room for them in my closet if I finally get around to purging all the things that truly don't work anymore.

Great outfit! The pants work great as colored BFs, I rather like the slouchy vibe they have going especially with the cozy dramatic scarf and impish hair. The whole vibe is just great, really. Your outerwear is also super cozy looking, with the hat and wrist warmers. I need to pull out my little wrist warmers, thanks for the reminder!

Another vote for mousse for the hair, and to add to the water bottle suggestion: I add a dallop of my conditioner to the water and shake shake shake it well. That works better than plain water, especially for thicker/coarser textured hair. Even on my fine/thin hair it works better than just water. But mousse is best.

I have a pair of lightweight deep wine jeans that I wear a lot and a pair of fairly heavy RED jeans that I seldom wear. I used to think that it was the weight of the RED ones that kept me from wearing them. Then I concluded that the wine ones were basically a neutral for me, unlike the RED ones. I am working on finding combos where the RED seems less *in your face* like maybe combining them with a longish purple sweater and even longer topper, rather than wearing them with a tucked white shirt or shortish cream sweater. Red is actually pretty versatile and probably a good thing to wear when one is out with friends and might inadvertently get separated from them. . .

I really like this outfit, Astrid. The jeans have a cool amount of slouch. From the looks of it, we wouldn't know they aren't among your favorites--nice way to get some mileage out of a stand-in piece until the right one comes along. Great peacoat and handwarmers, too. I'd like to see a little lock of hair peeking out from the beanie, though it's cute this way, too!

Wow, Astrid. I remember these jeans-- it wasn't until I saw you in these that I realized how much weight you've really lost. I think that scarf is the perfect way to tie in the red jeans--- I love the ensemble with the coat, and cashmere arm warmers, how delicious! I love that. I think you might need a curling iron for those days that that one front curl doesn't behave, putting a couple twists in short hair takes less than a minute and can save a bad hair day. I just bought a similar beanie, so if you don't mind I'm going to pretend we are gamine twins, although I'm far from it!

I think the outfit looks great and so does your hair. Do you wash your hair daily? I find I have to, otherwise it gets kinky and/or flat.

Super cute! I like your red jeans. The whole outfit looks really good, a nice balance of slouchy and interest. I hear you though on the colored jean trend. I have two pair. One dark, dark olive that somehow does not qualify as colored jeans to me and one pair of dark red cord jeans. I wear the olive a lot but the red cords have been on the chopping block multiple times. Anyhoo, I like you interpretation best.

Super fun colors on you Astrid and I really love the huge scarf :). As about the hair woes ... Sometimes one has to just roll with it. I feel the same about mine a lot of days, but it looks fine to everyone else! So may be we are the only ones noticing?

The bright bf's may not be your thing, but you do look great in them. I hope you can find a hair product that makes styling it more manageable, but if this is a bad hair day, well, you should see my bad hair days, ha! Looks good to me!

Thanks Donna! I had to laugh at the getting seperated bit, you notice these in the crowd for sure. I'm not seeing many bright pants in Berlin. These were dyed by me once, they were hot pink to start with. Maybe I should dye them again and try for burgundy this time...

Thanks Deborah! I didn't wash daily with the longer hair, but I did so far with the short do. It dries so quickly that it's really not a problem to wash it in the morning. It might be nice to do every second day, but we'll see.

Thanks Carambola! Yes, they scarf seems like it's made for this combination. I really hesitated about the colors when I bought it, but now I think they're great.

Oh, Astrid, I think you look fantastic! I love the slouchy look of the pants, and the big big scarf is amazing. Cozy and warm! I agree that your hair looks great too - but I know the feeling in real life. Good tips here for styling...I'm taking notes myself
