WIW - A midi & a maxi skirt - YouLookFab Forum

Inspired by the feedback I received after posting my does this skirt look ok post earlier in the week - I wore a maxi. There seem to be quite mixed responses to maxi skirts and maxi dresses but I am firmly in the love them camp. I had the day off on Monday so I ventured out shopping in my black maxi skirt. I wore it with a black sleeveless top, elasticated belt with silver fastening, silver sandals and my trusty denim jacket. I also wore my red animal print scarf but took it off when I got hot.

One of my goals is to wear skirts more often (I have a severe skirt allergy) so today (Thursday) I decided to try out a midi skirt that generally only sees the light of day if I am attending a funeral. I wore it with a blue knit top, cobalt plaited belt & suede and patent booties. Kind of felt like I was chanelling my sexy siren shadow self. BLack jacket to wear whilst out in the cold.

Anyway I'm still coming to grips with skirt wearing so suggestions for improvement are welcome.

I love maxi skirts on confident people like you. (And I just realized, thanks to your excellent outfits, that the rest of the outfit being stylish is half the battle when one wants to wear a piece that's a little bit fashion forward, so maybe I could give maxi skirts a try despite being short--thanks for the inspiration!) You look incredibly chic in the first one in particular (and in all of them, but the first is my favorite).

I tend to feel that often taller girls wear the maxi length best:) And I really like the way you have tied the scarf with this outfit. Overall you are creating a gorgeous long line. Tell me have you ever worn skants? They have not received a lot of love here but I think you would totally rock that look. Your hair is looking so cool. Can't beat a sharp stylish bob

I'm 5ft 9in & like to wear heels. I assume skants are like a divided skirt? Haven't really seen the look over here. Do you have any pictures?

I love both outfits on you - the denim jacket is fabulous with the casual sandals and earrings. I think the booties are the key to the second outfit - they give it a bit of an edge, don't they?

Now, you know I'm not a maxi girl myself, but I think you'd doing this really well. The skirt is flowy, but not flouncy, black, and you've styled it with tops that add a little structure and form. If I saw you on the street, I would admire your style completely! I'm also guessing that this look really fits your "real life" and your style rubric (youthful boho, etc). ! and 2 are my favorites (even though I a full-on midi girl, if I could find any midis, that is!)

Woman, you were *definitely* channeling your "shadow self" siren with that second outfit -- and it looks great on you. Sleek and strong with a side of "oh, these curves? No, they're not new...had 'em for years."

I am also a big fan of maxis done the way you're doing them in the first outfit. My .01 since .02 isn't necessary -- while I love the scarf in general, I actually prefer the look without it just because I think it's a lot of total volume. The necklace keeps things streamlined.

Thanks christieanne I really appreciated your comments in my last post. The midi skirt is definitely my shadow style and the maxi is more in my boho comfort zone but I enjoyed both looks.

I like your maxi outfit and the way your sandals show. To me, you really have to wear a sandal with a casual maxi skirt/dress, and having the black top even makes it look a bit like a dress. I realize you're in transition, and scarf and jacket probably went off and on during the day. I often have to bundle up in the air con wearing sandals and it looks a bit funny so I can relate!

Love the second look, and I especially appreciate that you went out of your comfort zone. Again, your shoes are such a vital part of the look, and they are smashing! You look great in these flowy shapes and knits that hug your curves. Beautiful!

Sorry Kiwichik but after seeing pictures 3-5 I cannot even think about the first two. That fishtail midi looks STUNNING on you, just stunning (and this is from somebody who could not imagine herself wearing a midi until last December)

I like the maxi, and I love the midi! I am a maxi lover, but my attempts to wear midis have been hit or miss. You've pulled both looks together very well.

I love how tall and sleek you look in both of the skirts! I always look sort of like I am playing dress up in my mom's closet if I try long length skirts! You look lovely in them!
