I travelled with my 81-year old Mom, she loves cruising but after my father passed she stopped. This was the first time I went on a tropical vacation in 14 years. I had forgotten the pleasures of lying in the sun -- with hat, umbrella and SPF 45 of course. It was a 15-day cruise on Princess Lines, roundtrip from San Francisco. I had an AMAZINGLY GOOD TIME! Highly recommend cruising while you are still "young." (See picture #15.)
Much planned-for and agonized-over wardrobe for the cruise:
- Used dark neutral colors of black and navy.
- My light neutral colors were caramel and white and gray.
- My accent color was coral.
- I adhered to this color scheme quite faithfully with separates. The exceptions were with one-piece items like dresses and my swimsuit.
- I carried a lot of clothes, but not too many. I wore all but one pair of pants, which felt too tight. Ehem.
- I brought too many shoes with me. I could have done with at least 2 fewer pairs, I think I carried 8 in total.
- I did not bring enough workout clothes though. My most worn items were my Zella shorts, Young, Fabulous and Broke un-hoodie, and my Skechers slip-resistant sneakers, perfect for the promenade deck.
It was very easy to get dressed, and I didn't tire of my capsule, so all of the planning paid off. It felt wonderful to enjoy all of my clothes, and to have so many "smart casual" occasions to dress for. I do feel a little light on the formal attire -- must be addressed on the next cruise.
A number of items were worn for the first time on the cruise. I began shopping on line for the cruise around 4 months ago. I got excellent deals purchasing items in October or November, sometimes with a coupon on top of a discounted price. The Sam Edelman lace up sandals were originally $100, but I bought them for under $30 on Amazon. Most of the clothing was from Shopbop or eBay. I loved having fresh new things to wear, which coordinated together.
Feel free to just look at the pics, or if you want details, they are provided below. Also, if my packing count list interests you, let me know and I'll post it.

----------------
1 -- White Katherine Kuts, Gray Vince cardigan, caramel accessories.
2 -- The eBay Trina Turk dress accessorized with my Mom's (real) jewelry. Worn on the first formal night, at sea, temps in the 50s.
3 -- High-waisted AYR black super skinnies, black tux jacket from Express, white tee to dress it down, and Erin Dana belt bag. Worn with my one-and-only pair of pumps, Enzo Angiolinis from NAS 2013.
4/5 -- Splendid skirt. It was new and I enjoyed wearing it a few times, either with or without my navy Vince linen circle cardigan.
6 -- The lace Adrianna Pappell dress that was an under-$20 eBay score.
7 -- Jean-Paul Gaultier mesh maxi skirt, Three Dots tee from forum member Sarah, Sam Edelman lace-up sandals. And the belt bag again.
8 -- Vince cropped pants (another under $20 eBay score), Zara sequin jacket from 2012, Three Dots tank rescued from the donate pile. (Not good on its own but a great layering piece.) The nude sandals are from Matiko. The white bag is Kelsi Dagger, much better quality than their footwear.
9 -- 2012 Vince silk dress (or is it a vest? a blouse?)with AYR jeans. Worn for another formal night.
10 -- Ikat navy and white top from Joie, Rag & Bone jeans and the superfluous Report Marks booties.
11 -- White oversized shirt from Zara (waving at top twin Debbie), AYR skinnies, Enzos.
12 -- Another outing of the Vince cropped pants and linen sweater, here with a Three Dots coral striped top.
13 -- Final formal night. My Zara black sheath, Mom's hand-made silver and semi-precious gemstone statement necklace, silver bracelet, and $10 "pashmina" purchased on board. Yes it goes with the lace dress too.
14 -- Here the most-worn items on the cruise!
15 -- Needs no description.
